Libraries
More than Books
Schools need great libraries. At the heart of 21st Century learning, school libraries are wonderful assets that deliver and amplify digital and information literacy; they provide online and print resources and services to support critical, creative and collaborative thinkers.
St Peters Lutheran College libraries provide a combination of People, Places, Collections and Services. They support both the Australian and International Baccalaureate curricula, as well as the recreational needs of our students by offering a range of dynamic services and resources in multiple formats and languages. There are three libraries on our Indooroopilly campus—Langer Library, Woodrow Library and the Lower Primary Library. To find out more about each of our College libraries, please scroll down.
Years 7–12
Langer Library opened in 1972. It serves our Junior High and Senior students (approximately 1700 students in Years 7–12) as well as teachers, parents and corporate staff. The library is home to a unique collection of resources and services. Qualified staff, including a Teacher Librarian, provide specialised subject resource instruction, task and assignment assistance, and information and literacy skills.
Reading programmes for Junior High students are supported, students can join book clubs, compete in inter-school reading events, meet local and international authors and attend multiple literary and cultural celebrations throughout the year.
Library Hours
Langer Library is open from 7:45am – 8:30pm (Monday to Thursday) and 7:45am – 4:00pm (Friday). Evening hours and additional openings support both our boarding and day students. For more information, visit the Langer Library website.
Years 4–7
Woodrow Library is a vibrant and inviting learning hub in the College’s Upper Primary precinct. The library has an extensive collection featuring over eleven thousand resources specifically curated for 9 to 13-year-old readers. While it primarily caters for Years 5–6 students, Year 7 students can access this space as they transition to using Langer Library.Numerous programs and events take place in Woodrow Library throughout the school year. These include reading-incentive initiatives, competitions, author and illustrator visits and workshops and annual Book Week celebrations. In close collaboration with year level teams, a qualified Teacher Librarian teaches Year 5 and 6 students in weekly library lessons. These sessions help students develop academic research skills and a love for literature.
Library Hours
Woodrow Library is open from 7:45am – 3:30pm (Monday to Friday).
Prep–Year 4
Language acquisition, information literacy and a love of reading—these are three key focus areas within the Lower Primary Library. The Lower Primary Library is a welcoming space where the College’s youngest students come to read, research and develop new skills.
The Lower Primary Library promotes a range of literary events throughout the year. These include hosting visits from authors and illustrators, National Simultaneous Storytime, the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s (CBCA) Book Week and Indigenous Literacy Day. Students in Prep-Year 3 attend one library lesson per week. These lessons focus on analysis of literature, recreational reading and self-selection skills, as well as research and information skills.
Library Hours
The Lower Primary Library is open to students from 8:00am – 3:30pm (Monday to Friday). Families are welcome before and after school to borrow with their children.
