Superstrings

For students who have commenced learning a string instrument at the beginning of the year. The ensemble is initially designed to aid in practice, to motivate and excite the student, creating a friendly, social environment while introducing them to various disciplines that promote important skills for ensemble playing.

Scherzo Strings

Students join Scherzo once they have completed one year of tuition. These students participate in a concert at the end of each term and progress through unison and harmonic part playing as the year progresses.

Presto Players

Caters for the more advanced string players in Years 3–4 (students who are approximately Grade 1 AMEB standard and above). Students can sight-read and develop their ensemble skills to perform various musical genres.

Year 5 MEBS

Year 5 students can experience learning a band instrument or existing string players can choose to extend their performance technique by joining Junior Neon Pulse. This ensemble builds on their existing string knowledge and focuses on movement and performance expression on amplified or electric instruments.

Sinfonietta Strings

Caters for Years 5–6 students who are refining their ensemble skills to perform a variety of rich and exciting string orchestra music. The focus for Sinfonietta members is to acquire a full understanding of the discipline, benefits and commitment required to participate in the more advanced string groups in the school.

Chamber Music

String Trios/Quartets are formed from Years 5–12 and are an excellent extension to individual lessons and ensemble. Each group is directed by a specialist chamber music instructor.

St Peters Soloists

Our flagship string ensemble performs at official functions, external competitions and International Tours. Members also form part of our Symphony Orchestra for the annual Performer of the Year – Concerto Competition.

Chamber Soloists

A professional level ensemble that focuses on performing a diverse range of classical repertoire while providing solo opportunities for members to prepare them for tertiary music and life as a performing musician.

Neon Pulse Electric Strings

Selected string players from the St Peters Soloists who show an interest in combining music and dance choreography to create a unique, electrified sound. Students demonstrate a higher level of performance showmanship to allow them to perform music from memory while moving in a sequenced routine.

Camerata Strings

Aims to develop the core skills essential for string ensemble playing up to a Grade 6 AMEB level. Each ensemble member is a valuable part of the whole as they perform a diverse range of musical styles from 18th-century classics to more contemporary genres in their dynamic concert performances.

Intermediate Neon

Designed as a training ensemble for students who show ability in memorisation and movement. Students learn to perform choreographed routines while playing their instrument.

Sinfonia

Students will develop their ensemble playing skills through the exploration of a wide variety of musical genres, written for string orchestra. This ensemble is for students playing to approximately Grade 4 or 5 AMEB level.
