On behalf of St Peters Lutheran College I extend a very warm welcome to the 2023 school year. THE LUTHERAN ETHOS AT ST PETERS

St Peters Lutheran College is a Christian school of the Lutheran Church of Australia and, therefore, our guiding beliefs and ideals are shaped by the Christian faith in its Lutheran expression. This means a strong focus on the gospel of Jesus Christ, who has come to bring freedom and life to all people. The Langer Library serves our Junior High and Senior School students. Normal opening hours are from 7.45am- 8.30pm (Monday to Thursday) and 7.45am – 4.00pm (Friday) however these hours may change in the first and last week of terms.

On Monday 23 - Wednesday 25 January, 2023 the library will close at 5.30pm. Normal hours will recommence from Week 2 (Monday 30 January , 2023).

For the safety of all staff and students on campus, please observe the below safety tips:

• Set down and pick up of students on College grounds is not permitted. Parents and visitors are asked to set down and pick up students outside the College grounds. These restrictions apply from 7:00am to 8:15am and again between 2:30pm to 3:30pm.

The below locations are not set down/ pick up zones at any time:

• Ross Roy visitors parking
• Business Centre visitors parking
• Schneider Staff Carpark (staff only parking)
• Chapel Carpark
• Area beside Boys Boarding
• 25m pool Carpark
• Primary Years Staff Carpark (near Stolz Oval)
• At any roundabout.

The general speed limit on campus is strictly 25kph. While driving past the Prep School the speed limit is 20kph.

• Inside the grounds, at all times, drivers are to follow the road rules, signs and directions as they would on any public road.  ‘No standing’ and ‘parking’ signs have been placed to treat specific risks. NEVER DOUBLE PARK OR PARK IN ‘NO STOPPING’ ZONES or on yellow lines.
• Students and Learner Drivers are not permitted to drive or park on College grounds at any time.
• Several areas on the roads throughout the College have been designated as high traffic pedestrian zones.  These areas are indicated by a large painted red area within a yellow border.  When approaching any of these zones, please be very cautious and aware that pedestrians may wish to cross and that they have right of way.
• Prep Centre and Rainforest Boom Gates are closed during the following periods:
  • 7.45am – 8.15am
  • 2.45pm – 3.30pm

• Prep Carpark – ensure to park in the designated parking bays only.  Double parking is not permitted.
• Please remember mobile phones are not to be used whilst driving.

2023 fees

A Tax Invoice/Statement will be emailed to the address recorded on the College’s records prior to the commencement of each term and can also be viewed on myStPeters under the Community Portal. Please contact portals@stpeters.qld.edu.au if you need any assistance to access your account.

student accident insurance

All students are covered for accidental injury under a Student Accident Insurance Policy.

The Policy provides a cash benefit for specific events such as accidental death, permanent disability, fractures, dislocations etc. occurring in the following circumstances:

• while student is engaged in school activities and school-related extracurricular activities (including work experience, vocational training and on excursions);
• while student is engaged in organised school sporting activities;
• while student is engaged in organised non-school sporting activities; ie where the student is a registered member of an established sporting organisation; and
• travel to and from school activities, organised school and non-school sporting activities (as defined above).

The Policy also includes coverage for medical expenses which do not in any way attract a Medicare rebate and are incurred within 12 months of the injury.

This insurance is provided to assist parents in meeting some of the medical costs caused by a student’s accidental injury but is not an all-encompassing policy that covers all expenses incurred in the event of an injury.

Please note that a Medical Practitioner must first be consulted in order for an insurance claim to be accepted by the insurer.

In Lower Primary, staff are on duty from 8.00 – 8.15am and from 3.00 – 3.30pm. 

In Upper Primary, our duty is from 7.45am - 8.05 and from 3.10 – 3.30pm.

PRIOR TO DAY one

A letter will be emailed in the week prior to the commencement of the school year. This will outline, to the students, their new class and teacher for 2023.

NEW Years 1-6 FAMILIES MEET AND GREET: Friday 20 JANUARY, 2023

Families new to our community in 2023 will be invited to attend a Meet and Greet afternoon where there will be an opportunity to meet with staff, view classrooms and familiarise yourselves with our environment.  This will take place on Friday 20 January from 1.00pm – 2.00pm (for Lower Primary) and from 1.30pm – 2.30pm (for Upper Primary).

Directly following this, all new and current students in Years 3 – 6 are invited to drop off book packs to their classrooms. This is a chance to off load these resources so that the first formal day of school can be a little less stressful for everyone.

Years 3 and 4 – all non-consumable items are to be clearly marked with your child’s name.  Consumables (not named) will be shared throughout the year. Years 5 and 6 – please ensure all items are clearly marked with your child’s name on them.  Classrooms will be open from 2.00pm – 3.30pm.

While this is a great time to meet your child’s teacher, it is not designed to discuss their needs for the coming year.  There will be plenty of opportunity to discuss your child in the first few weeks of Term 1.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Monday 23 JANUARY, 2023

Lower Primary

Prep students will proceed to their classrooms on arrival at school from 8.00am. 

Students in Years 1-4 are to either utilise the Kiss and Go facility or the Pedestrian Kiss and Go Facility outside the Grey umbrellas from 8.00am where they will be directed to their classrooms. Their 2023 classroom teachers will be on hand to welcome them. Parents are asked to say goodbye quickly to ensure a smooth start for everyone.

Upper Primary

Students in Years 5 and 6 can proceed directly to their classrooms. Parents should not be on site.

CHAPEL

For Primary Years, Chapel will take place every Wednesday at 8.30am. Formal Uniform (Years 1–6) is required to be worn on these days.

Assemblies

Assemblies will take place at the following times:

• Prep – Year 2: 2.20pm fortnightly on a Friday in Belfield Hall
• Years 3 – 4 students:  1.30pm fortnightly on a Friday in Belfield Hall
• Years 5 and 6 students: 2.20pm fortnightly on a Thursday in the Dron Auditorium.

Tips for parents of Year 1 students for a successful first week

Morning:
The teacher on duty will meet the children at the Grey Umbrella area between 8.00 – 8.10am. Students will say goodbye and line up in their class line at this time.

Afternoon:
Children can be picked up either from the Grey Umbrellas or Kiss and Go from 3.05pm.  Parents should collect their child from one of these two locations. If your child attends OSHC, they will make their way to Belfield Hall immediately after school concludes.

Communication

Parent involvement in the Primary Years activities is most welcome and information about these opportunities will be detailed by class teachers. Teachers are available to meet with parents before and after school, however, an appointment is essential to ensure adequate time can be given. Parent/Teacher interviews are held at the end of Term 1. Three Way Conferences will occur at the end of Term 3. Written reports on students’ academic progress are available on at the end of each semester.  

Student diaries are used for written communication between teachers and parents. This is the preferred form of communication between home and school. Students will be given their diary on the first day at school.  All members of staff have email and parents are welcome to use this, however, bear in mind that our teachers’ priority is actively teaching children so emails may not be checked within a school day.

Weekly news is incorporated into the College newsletter, The Rock. Other news will regularly be updated on the College’s Learning Management System, Firefly. Please be sure to check the class/year level blog of your child. Important, relevant information is written here.

Supplementary information will be sent home at other times throughout the year. Individual year levels often prepare their own notices to parents pertinent to upcoming events to that year level. 

Primary Years Information Evenings

Years 1 – 6 Parent information evenings, featuring classroom and specialist teachers, will be held in the third week of Term 1.

Centre for Learning and Innovation (CLI)

Uniform

Lower Primary students wear sports uniform on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and formal uniform on Wednesdays. Prep students wear the sports uniform five days a week.

Upper Primary students will wear their formal uniform Mondays and Wednesdays. Their sports uniform is worn on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Students must be neatly dressed each day in clean, well-fitting uniforms. Black leather lace-up shoes are required for the formal uniform while predominantly white sports shoes are the prescribed footwear for all other times. Please name all items of clothing. Please refer to the parent handbook on mystpeters under the ‘Primary Years ‘school tab for further details and clarification. 

St Peters is an official SunSmart school and a regulation is that the appropriate hat is always worn outdoors. Rash shirts must be worn during swimming lessons.  Sunscreen is also a requirement when going outdoors.  

Due to allergies, each child is responsible for bringing their own personal supply of sunscreen. A roll-on stick clearly marked with the child’s name is preferable.

Swimming

Swimming lessons are held weekly during Term 1 (beginning in Week 2) and Term 4 as part of the Physical Education Program. These classes are conducted in the 25m pool. Students are required to bring their swim-wear, towels, sunscreen, goggles and swim caps for each lesson. Students in Years 3 - 6 are required to provide their own flippers. Class teachers will notify the children of their timetabled HPE day.

Lunches

Children are expected to bring healthy lunches from home each day. Sweets, chocolates and other high fat / sugar foods are strongly discouraged. We ask that you also do not bring any product containing nuts. 

Students in the Lower Primary setting have access to the facilities of Café 45 with a pre-ordered Tuckshop facility. The service is offered Monday – Friday for lunch – with a small menu for students in Prep–4. The format will require parents to order online and the food will be delivered to the Lower Primary classrooms just prior to lunchtime. Parent volunteers help pack the lunches.

Students in Upper Primary may access the Tuckshop each day; however, they must always remember to bring their ID card with them. Please ensure adequate money is available on your child’s card if you intend for them to access food at the Tuckshop.

Our Primary Years Parent Support Group organise special lunch days from time to time throughout the year. More specific details will be communicated to parents at these times.

To reduce the risk of allergic reactions children are not permitted to share lunches. Whilst we do not have a policy, we have several children with allergies in the Primary Years and ask that nuts be excluded from your child’s lunchbox.

Outside School Hours Care

St Peters operates Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) from Belfield Hall in Lower Primary. We cater for Prep-Year 12 students before school (7:00-8:15am), after school (2:45-6:00pm) and, vacation care and pupil free days (7:00am - 6:00pm).

Parking

The car parks at the entrance to the school and on internal roads are reserved for staff only. For safety reasons, under no circumstances are these areas to be used for dropping off or picking up of children between 7:00am and 3.30pm. 

There are two green 2-minute set down zones either side of Lambert Road near Lower Primary for parents dropping off children. Parents are not permitted to drive into the school grounds to drop off or pick up their children unless using Kiss and Go. Parents are encouraged to use the Kiss and Go Zone, which operates between 7:55am – 8:10am and 3:05pm – 3:30pm in the Stolz Oval car park. This service has been provided to ease congestion along Lambert Road and to ensure our children are safe. Students from Years 1–6 can utilise this service. 

The drop off area for Upper Primary students is on Harts Road. This can also be congested at times, so care must be taken at peak times around this area. 

Attendance

Before School – Lower Primary 

Children should arrive no earlier than 8.00am and should depart immediately after school finishes, unless attending Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) or a supervised after-school activity. Although supervision is provided for a short period before and after school, to ensure the safety of children arriving and departing, it is not intended that this should be an extended play time. Please note that, for safety reasons, children should not be at school unaccompanied by an adult before 8.00am, as this is when playground supervision begins.

Children who arrive unaccompanied before 8:00am or who do not depart promptly after school, or immediately after an after-school activity, will be taken into Outside School Hours Care and the usual fee will be charged.

Before School – Upper Primary

Duty commences from 7.45am. Students arriving prior to this should also be in an authorised before school activity or Outside School Hours Care. 

During School

Students in Prep - Year 6 will receive an ID card early in the school year. Students in Years 5 and 6 are required to sign in and out with this card at the Upper Primary Administration area. Parent of students from Prep – Year 4 are required to accompany their child with their ID card to the appropriate administration area if their child is arriving late or departing early. This is a mandatory procedure as it serves as a record of attendance for students throughout the College. 

After School

Students should make their way promptly to the designated pick up areas as soon as school has finished unless attending supervised after-school activities. They may not play on College grounds en-route to and from school. To prevent any misunderstandings or concern for your child’s safety, please ensure that the school is advised of any changes in travelling arrangements.

Absenteeism

In the event your child is unable to attend school because of illness, medical appointments etc., it is the responsibility of parents to contact the College before 8.00am. 

Students in Prep – Year 4: Please advise of the intended absence by emailing lpattendance@stpeters.qld.edu.au. A phone call to the Lower Primary absentee line for Prep – Year 4 on (07) 3377 6565 can be an alternative.  

Students in Years 5 and 6: Please advise of the intended absence by emailing upattendance@stpeters.qld.edu.au. A phone call to the Upper Primary absentee line for students in Years 5 and 6 on (07) 3377 6123 can be an alternative.

An SMS message will be sent to your mobile if absences are unexplained. If you receive an SMS, please reply to this notification of your child’s whereabouts as a matter of urgency.

Primary Years Parent Support Groups

The Primary Years Parent Support Group provide further opportunities for parents to become involved in the College and new members are always most welcome. These groups meet on a regular basis (once per term) and dates for meeting times can be found in the school calendar.    

Visitors

It is a requirement of the College that any parent, volunteer or individual visiting the College campus sign in at the designated administration areas. Upon signing in, visitors will receive a visitor badge. This applies to all volunteers (parents, family members, visitors etc.) helping in classrooms as well as anyone who is on the College grounds.  The safety of our children is paramount.

JUNIOR HIGH TIMETABLE STRUCTURE 2023

To aid students in their organisation we advise them to keep a laminated copy of their timetable on the inside of their locker door.  At the beginning of the day and at the end of breaks students should take their equipment and books for the next group of periods. Students should not be returning to their lockers during or in between lessons.

JUNIOR HIGH RECEPTION

Junior High Reception is located in M Block near the pedestrian crossing on College Drive.  Hours of operation are 7:45am – 3:45pm. Our Junior High Receptionist is Mrs Alison Arnold and Mrs Anna Staley (Thursdays only) who can be contacted on 3377 6503.

Bell times

UNIFORM AND GROOMING EXPECTATIONS

Students must report to school on the first day in the correct uniform and adhere to our grooming expectations – in particular we ask that appointments for haircuts be made prior to the commencement of the College year and not left until the first week of school. Please refer to the Junior High School Handbook 2023 on Firefly.

MOBILE PHONES

St Peters Lutheran College recognises that access to a mobile telephone for some students provides peace of mind for parents, enables emergency arrangements to be made conveniently and, in some cases, provides greater safety for students. Their presence in the College can also have negative consequences such as taking video and photos of people without their permission, temptation to theft, possibility of loss, the potential for cheating, ease of making harassing or bullying calls and possible disruption of classes, assemblies and worship.

Students in Junior High are permitted to bring mobile phones to school under certain conditions. In their use of mobile phones students must adhere to the College’s Acceptable Use of Technology Policy and phone usage should be restricted to essential communication only.  Phones will be confiscated and kept at Junior High Reception if they are being used inappropriately. Students must not contact parents directly if they are sick or wish to go home. They are to report to Junior High Reception if unwell.

YEAR 7 & 8 CAMP AND YEAR 9 IRONBARK

Our camp programs in Junior High (Year 7 Camp, 8 Camp and Year 9 Ironbark) are compulsory parts of our curriculum. Year 7 Camp
The camp dates are Wednesday 14 June to Friday 16 June, 2023. 

Year 8 Camp
The camp dates are Monday 10 July – Friday 14 July, 2023. This is the first week of Term 3 and the Monday is a student-free day for the rest of the College—it is a gazetted school week. Extended vacations during this time will not be approved.

PARKING

For safety reasons, parents are asked NOT to drop their child off on campus.  Harts Road is the best location for dropping off and picking up of Junior High students before and after school.  If students have a large musical instrument they may be dropped off – a drop off pass can be applied for. 

During the course of the school day (after 8:30am and before 2:30pm) if your child is ill or needs to go to an appointment, parents can access the visitors’ car parks in the internal bus stop for pickup and drop off.  If a student is injured they may be dropped off on campus. 

Under no circumstances should parents drop students off on the orange crossing in front of Junior High Reception.  Orange zones and yellow lines on campus mean no stopping at any time.

FIRST DAY FOR NEW YEARS 10 - 12 STUDENTS: FRIDAY 20 JANUARY

All new students in Years 10-12 (i.e. those students who are new to St Peters) will commence on Friday 20 January for a special Orientation program tailored for the needs of new students. All new students are to attend in full formal school uniform and meet on the steps to the Chapel at 8:00am. Students are not required to bring any textbooks on this day, just a notebook, laptop, lock for their locker and writing materials. Students are asked to provide their own morning tea, but lunch will be provided. Students can be collected from Senior School Reception at 1:10pm. 

First Day for All Years 10 – 12 Students: MONDAY 23 January

Monday 23 January is the first day of school for all Years 10-12 students. This normal school day runs from 8:00am – 3:10pm. Students should meet at the following venues at 8:00am: 

• Year 10 students: Chapel;
• Year 11 students: Café 45; and
• Year 12 students: Performing Arts Centre Auditorium.

Normal classes will commence on this date – all equipment, books, etc will be required for the start of lessons in Period 2. 

Tuckshop

Please note: as St Peters is cashless, the Café will not be able to be accessed by new students until ID Cards are issued. Therefore, new students will need to bring their morning tea and lunch for the first few days.

Identification (ID) photos for all new students will be taken during the first few days of Term 1.

Information Evenings (Parents Only) 

Senior School Parent Information Evening in 2023 will take place on Wednesday 8 February. Further information will be sent in the new year. 

Student Timetables and Change of Subjects 

Every effort has been made by the Coordinator of Academic Operations to provide the pattern of study requested, but this may not always be possible. Students have been given the opportunity to request a change of subject prior to the end of the 2022 school year. Should students wish to request to change a subject after this time, there will be an opportunity during Week 2 of Term 1. After this time a change will not be granted. The ‘Application for Change of Subject’ form needs to be completed (find these on FireFly via the Senior School ‘Curriculum’ tab) and emailed or handed in to Mrs Olivia Larney (o.larney@stpeters.qld.edu.au), Head of Curriculum - Students (Acting). 

Subject changes are not always possible due to constraints such as class sizes or timetable clashes with other subjects. Please note that requests to subject allocations are processed as quickly as possible – we ask for your patience. You will be notified by email of the outcome of a request to change a subject. Information regarding teacher allocations and lesson timetables will be provided to students at the commencement of the 2023 school year.

Uniform and Grooming

Students must report to school on the first day in the correct uniform and adhere to our grooming expectations. In particular, we ask that appointments for haircuts be made prior to the commencement of the school year and not left until the first week of school. If at any stage your child is in the incorrect uniform, they should liaise with their Year Level Coordinator in the first instance before going to lessons. 

Mobile Phones

St Peters recognises that access to a mobile telephone for some students provides peace of mind for parents, enables emergency arrangements to be made conveniently and, in some cases, provides greater safety for students. Their presence at school can also have negative consequences.

Students in Senior School are permitted to bring mobile phones to school under certain conditions, but they should not be used through the day. Phones should be kept in lockers throughout the day and should only be used within close proximity of your locker/locker area). Students are not permitted to have headphones in their ears when moving around campus.  Phones will be confiscated and kept at Senior School Reception if they are being used inappropriately.

Music Ensemble Membership

St Peters Music Ensemble Program offers over 40 instrumental and vocal ensemble opportunities, including string orchestras, choirs, concert bands, stage bands, percussion ensembles, rock bands, guitar ensembles and chamber music groups.  Students are welcome to pursue their musical interests and develop their skills in one or more of these ensembles.  

There are no auditions for most choirs at the College. The exception are St Peters Chorale (Years 9-12) and Vox Camerata (Year 8-12). Students who wish to audition for these choirs, are requested to contact Ms Kathryn Morton, Chorale Director, on 3377 6950 or Christine Taylor (Head of Choirs) on 3377 6510. 

To enable us to place all students who want to be involved in the most appropriate instrumental ensemble for their current level of musical experience, we hold auditions for entry to bands and string orchestras. Auditions are held in the first week of Term 1, 2023 (please sign up on the noticeboard in the Performing Arts Centre). Participation in music ensembles contributes to the College’s expectation that all students participate in two cocurricular activities.

BOYS SPORT

Boys in Years 5 – Year 12 are involved in the formalised competition know as AIC (Associated Independent Colleges). There are eight affiliated schools in this competition and matches are played on a rotational basis whereby all schools will compete against each other throughout the respective sport seasons. There are also three major carnivals, Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field.

BSRA has ten affiliated schools and the Rowing Regattas are on eight Saturdays in Term Three.

PRIMARY SPORT (Years 4–6)

The goal of Primary Sport is to equip young students with the skills and knowledge to play a variety of different sports. All competition is participation based and focuses on skill development in a nurturing environment. Girls and boys in the Primary Years are involved in the Inter-Lutheran (Southern Lutheran Association Primary Schools) Competition and District carnivals (Northern Eagles) involving Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field. 

Girls in Years 4–6 are involved in the Andrews Cup Association Metro Meets. The Metro Meets offer a number of competitive afternoons in Terms 1, 2 and 3. Additionally, all Year 3–6 girls are encouraged to participate in the Western Districts Netball club competition (Term1/2/3) and Preseason Basketball and Touch Football during Term 4. 

Years 4–6 Boys are involved in the Primary Years AIC Competition. Here the focus is on participation and all boys who attend training are placed on teams representing the College in weekly fixtures. Different sports are offered each term throughout the year. There are also Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field Carnivals in the AIC Competition for Years 5 and 6 boys.

St Peters offers many activities in which students can be involved. Each student is challenged to discover, develop and use their gifts and talents for personal growth and service to others.

Access Arts

Access Arts provides opportunities for students in Years 7 – 12 to work in the Art studios after school and provides additional workshops for students to get involved in the Arts.

da Vinci Decathlon

The Queensland da Vinci Decathlon is an academic Inter-School, state-wide gala competition operated in the spirit of an Olympic Decathlon, with a variety of events of a high level academic nature. Schools may enter teams of eight students into Junior, Middle or Senior competitions. 

Debating

QDU debating is open to students in Years 7–12. The QDU Secondary Schools Competition (Years 8–12) consists of four preliminary rounds held throughout Terms 1 and 2, followed by a final series held in Term 3. St Peters competes against other Independent schools as well as Catholic and State High Schools.

The Year 7 Round Robin competition is run by the QDU in Terms 2 and 3. This is a four round competition, finishing with a short-preparation debate. St Peters is usually the host of the Year 7 competition.

DUKE OF EDINBURGH

The Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award is a youth development and leadership program for young people aged between 14 and 25 years. Students progress through the sections at their own pace.

The Award encourages personal development in four key areas of Skills, Volunteering, Physical Recreation/Fitness and, Adventurous Journey.

The DoE Award takes on different formats and participants enrol in the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award programs in any given year.

Ethics Olympiad 

The Ethics Olympiad is an opportunity for students in Years 7-9 and Years 10-12 to engage in interesting ethical discussions with students across Queensland. Students spend time considering and discussing various ethical cases in preparation for the competition. Closer to the competition, teams of five are selected based on their ability to engage in careful and critical ethical discourse.

Future Problem Solving

Future Problem Solving (FPS) is a research-based, academic program that teaches problem solving strategies, collaboration, critical and creative thinking, and effective communication. The interdisciplinary approach helps develop ethical leadership skills and provides a unique opportunity for students to learn and apply essential life skills in the 21st Century.

St Peters offers a range of programs to promote digital learning, including Robotics, eSports and Coding.

Robotics is a year-long, lunch and after school program offered to all students from Years 5-12 as a space to design, code and build robots. Coaches are available to assist students, who work in teams or independently. Students can choose to compete in the many local, interstate and international competitions. At times, St Peters students work in a collaborative team with students from the Grammar Schools and Grace Lutheran College.

eSports, or competitive gaming, is a popular program at St Peters, with over seven leagues to choose from. Students compete in a variety of online weekly competitions, face-to-face events and Inter-School friendlies. Students from Years 5-12 can be involved in this lunch and afterschool activity.

The Tech Girls competition combines problem-solving through a social, business and technical lens, producing high-quality business plans, pitch videos and working app prototypes.

During the competition teams of three to five girls work to design and create an app that solves an issue in the local area. Students will learn the basics of coding but do not need any prior programming experience to enter.

Service learning

The Service Learning at St Peters is integrated into the life and work of the whole College. Students learn by engaging with others on how they can make a real difference.

Service Learning involves formal curriculum based activities in Year 9 Christian Studies in which academic goals are accomplished through community service, through various projects including visiting aged care centres, collecting toiletries and knitting beanies for the Homeless.

There is also a multitude of extra-curricular opportunities through the Social Justice, Multicultural and Environment groups for students from Years 7–12 to apply their gifts and resources in support of others. 

Theatresports

Theatresports is improvised theatrical entertainment played as a spectator sport. Teams of players invent spontaneously assembled scenes from suggestions they are given within set structures and rules of individual ‘games’. Teams are judged on their ability to follow the rules of each game, deliver a cohesive story line and entertain the audience.

Theatresports increases students’ confidence, listening skills and teamwork, as well as exercising creative thinking and problem solving abilities in a hilarious, fun and supportive environment. It also provides valuable opportunities for students to implement, practice and extend the lessons in narrative, play-building and characterisation taught in the drama classroom within a real-world context.

The boardroom

The Boardroom is a St Peters Business and Entrepreneurial Club that meets once a week to engage young minds in the world of Business.

Students in Years 7–12 collaborate and share ideas ranging from product innovation; marketing techniques; e-commerce; business plans and many more. Guest speakers and workshops are provided to expand their knowledge and time is also spent preparing for competitions like the QUT ‘BlueShift Business Case’ competition, the CPA ‘Plan Your Own Enterprise’ competition and the ‘Generation Innovate’ competition, run by Study Queensland.

Thinklings Writers’ Group

We have many keen writers at St Peters who enjoy discussing, co-creating and encouraging each other’s writing.

Vapar

Visual Arts and Performing Arts review (VAPAr) is a culmination of student Fashion, Design, Art, Film, Media, Music, Performances and Drama.

VAPAr has been going for over 15 years and is one of the flagship events for the Arts. VAPAr is about the Visual Arts and the Performing Arts all coming together.
