In this final edition of The Rock for 2023, you will find information about Sub-Schools, cocurricular, events, meetings, College information, uniforms and more. A downloadable Information Guide is available here.
On behalf of St Peters Lutheran College I extend a very warm welcome to the 2024 school year. In living out our Mission of ‘Excellence in Christian Co-education’ we seek to provide a quality, holistic education that ‘challenges minds, nurtures hearts, builds futures’ for each of our students. This is best achieved when the values of the home and the College are aligned and we seek to work in partnership with each other.
This guide aims to strengthen that partnership by providing key information for families about the educational and operational elements of St Peters including:
Should you require clarification about any information contained in this guide please contact the most appropriate person at the College who will be happy to assist you.
We look forward to working with you throughout 2024 as we partner together in the education of your child.
St Peters Lutheran College is a Christian school of the Lutheran Church of Australia and, therefore, our guiding beliefs and ideals are shaped by the Christian faith in its Lutheran expression. This means a strong focus on the gospel of Jesus Christ, who has come to bring freedom and life to all people. We seek to be an inclusive and welcoming community, where every person is valued and encouraged to develop their unique gifts and learning to use them by serving others in order to make a difference in the world. Our ethos is shaped by our common weekly worship and informs our relationships. It impacts how community is experienced, behaviour management is exercised, skills are developed, successes are celebrated and hurts are healed.
We believe that we are all part of God’s good creation, made in God’s image, and called to grow into God’s likeness. Yet we are all self-centred and broken, and at the deepest level cannot fix and heal ourselves. In the person of Jesus Christ, God comes to meet us as we are, brings forgiveness, healing and support, welcomes us into God’s family, and works with us to faithfully support, encourage and care for each other. Even in death and failure, we have a faithful God who calls forth resurrection and new life in unexpected ways. We never have to earn God’s approval and love – it is always freely given. Life is a gift to be celebrated.
Therefore, in our community which includes all students, families, staff, Old Scholars and congregation members, we seek to support people to experience an authentic life, discovering who they are as gifted and forgiven people and how to answer God’s call by engaging as a member of this community.
The College motto, ‘Plus Ultra’ (often translated as ‘ever higher’), means that every member of our community is encouraged to do their best but it importantly also reminds us that ‘there is always more beyond’, meaning that God’s vision for us is beyond what we dare to imagine. We are invited to discover God’s gracious presence in the midst of our lives and to trust that we are always dearly loved and embraced.
We aim to be a restorative community, encouraging people to seek to restore and heal broken relationships. This is how God’s reconciliation through the love of Christ is experienced in authentic community.
Our values motivate us to:

For the safety of all staff and students on campus, please observe the below safety tips:
The below locations are not set down/ pick up zones at any time:
The general speed limit on campus is strictly 25kph. While driving past the Prep School the speed limit is 20kph.
As you are aware, child safety and illegal parking around school zones remains a concern for parents, children, local residents and schools alike. Parking spaces during pick up and set down times are at a premium and subsequently, competition for these spaces can lead to poor driver behaviour and potentially dangerous parking practices.
While it is certainly not Brisbane City Council’s intention to make parking near schools an overly onerous task, regulating parking activities is necessary to promote safe driving during pick up and drop off times. During the year, Council officers will attend school zones to ensure safe parking. Parking fines may be issued in cases where illegal parking is observed (ie parking on yellow lines).
We encourage parents, guardians and visitors of our school to visit Council’s website at www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-transport/parking-permits/parking-rules to learn more about parking in Brisbane.
A Tax Invoice/Statement will be emailed to the address recorded on the College’s records prior to the commencement of each term and can also be viewed on myStPeters under the Community Portal. Please contact ITsupport@stpeters.qld.edu.au if you need any assistance to access your account.
Fees for Term 1, 2024 are due on 22 January 2024.
For information on accepted methods of payment, please refer to the 2024 Fee Schedules:
You can visit https://www.stpeters.qld.edu.au/indooroopilly/admissions/fees-and-payments to download the 2024 Domestic or Overseas Student Fee Schedules.
All students are covered for accidental injury under a Student Accident Insurance Policy.
The Policy provides a cash benefit for specific events such as accidental death, permanent disability, fractures, dislocations etc. occurring in the following circumstances:
The Policy also includes coverage for medical expenses which do not in any way attract a Medicare rebate and are incurred within 12 months of the injury.
This insurance is provided to assist parents in meeting some of the medical costs caused by a student’s accidental injury but is not an all-encompassing policy that covers all expenses incurred in the event of an injury.
Please note that a Medical Practitioner must first be consulted in order for an insurance claim to be accepted by the insurer.
Student Accident Insurance claim forms are available from the St Peters CMS, Firefly. It can be found under Resources/Organisational Information/Forms/Parents Indooroopilly or contact healthandsafety@stpeters.qld.edu.au

Families new to our community in 2024 will be invited to attend a Meet and Greet afternoon where there will be an opportunity to meet with staff, view classrooms and familiarise yourselves with our environment. This will take place on Friday 19 January from 1:00pm – 2:00pm (for Lower Primary) and from 1:30pm – 2:30pm (for Upper Primary). New Year 3 – 6 students are asked to bring along their stationery on this day so that they will be available for the first day of school. Prep – Year 2 stationery items will be delivered directly to school.
Years 3 and 4 – all non-consumable items should be clearly marked with your child’s name. Consumables (not named) will be shared throughout the year. Years 5 and 6 – please ensure all items are clearly marked with your child’s name on them.
Lower Primary
Prep students will proceed to their classrooms on arrival at school from 8:00am.
Students in Years 1-4 are can either utilise the Kiss and Go facility or the Pedestrian Kiss and Go Facility outside the Grey umbrellas from 8:00am where they will be directed to their classrooms. Their 2024 classroom teachers will be on hand to welcome them. Parents are asked to say goodbye quickly to ensure a smooth start for everyone.
Upper Primary
Students in Years 5 and 6 can proceed directly to their classrooms. So that students can settle quickly and confidently, it is best that parents are not on site.
For Primary Years, Chapel will take place every Wednesday at 8:30am. Formal Uniform (Years 1 – 6) is required to be worn on these days.
Assemblies will take place at the following times:
Morning:
The teacher on duty will meet the children at the Grey Umbrella area between 8:00am – 8:10am. Students will say goodbye and line up in their class line at this time.
Afternoon:
Children can be picked up either from the Grey Umbrellas or Kiss and Go from 3:05pm. Parents should collect their child from one of these two locations. If your child attends OSHC, they will make their way to Belfield Hall immediately after school concludes.
Parent involvement in Primary Years activities is most welcome and information about these opportunities will be detailed by class teachers. Teachers are available to meet with parents before and after school, however, an appointment is essential to ensure adequate time can be given. Parent/Teacher interviews are held at the end of Term 1. Three Way Conferences will occur at the end of Term 3. Written reports on students’ academic progress are available on at the end of each semester and in the student’s portfolios throughout the year.
Student diaries are used for written communication between teachers and parents. This is the preferred form of communication between home and school. Students will be given their diary on the first day at school. All members of staff have email and parents are welcome to use this, however, bear in mind that our teachers’ priority is actively teaching children so emails may not be checked within a school day.
Weekly news is incorporated into the College newsletter, The Rock. Other news will regularly be updated on the College’s Learning Management System, Firefly. Please be sure to check the class/year level blog of your child. Important, relevant information is written here.
Supplementary information will be sent home at other times throughout the year. Individual year levels often prepare their own notices to parents pertinent to upcoming events to that year level.

Upper Primary students will wear their formal uniform Mondays and Wednesdays. Their sports uniform is worn on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Students must be neatly dressed each day in clean, well-fitting uniforms. Please refer to the parent handbook on mystpeters under the ‘Primary Years ‘school tab for further details and clarification.
St Peters is an official SunSmart school, and the appropriate hat should always be worn outdoors. Rash shirts must be worn during swimming lessons. Sunscreen is also a requirement when moving outdoors.
Due to allergies, each child is responsible for bringing their own personal supply of sunscreen. A roll-on stick clearly marked with the child’s name is preferable.
Swimming lessons are held weekly during Term 1 (beginning in Week 2) and Term 4 as part of the Physical Education Program. These classes are conducted in the 25m pool. Students are required to bring their swimwear, towels, sunscreen, goggles and swim caps for each lesson. Students in Years 3 - 6 are required to provide their own flippers. Class teachers will notify the children of their timetabled HPE day.
Children are expected to bring healthy lunches from home each day. Sweets, chocolates and other high fat / sugar foods are strongly discouraged. We ask that you also do not bring any product containing nuts.
To reduce the risk of allergic reactions children are not permitted to share lunches. While we do not have a policy, we have several children with allergies in the Primary Years and ask that nuts be excluded from your child’s lunchbox. Students in Lower Primary have access to the facilities of Café 45 with a pre-ordered Tuckshop facility. The service is offered Monday – Friday for lunch – with a small menu for students in Prep–4. The format will require parents to order online, and the food will be delivered to the Lower Primary classrooms just prior to lunchtime.
Students in Upper Primary may access the Tuckshop each day; however, they must always remember to bring their ID card with them. Please ensure adequate money is available on your child’s card if you intend for them to access food at the Tuckshop.
St Peters operates Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) from Belfield Hall in Lower Primary. We cater for Prep-Year 12 students before school (7:00am-8:15am), after school (2:45pm- 6:00pm) Vacation Care and Pupil Free days (7:00am - 6:00pm).
More information, including admission forms and fees, are available on the St Peters website.
The car parks at the entrance to the school and on internal roads are reserved for staff only. For safety reasons, under no circumstances are these areas to be used for dropping off or picking up children between 7:00am and 3.30pm.
There are two green 2-minute set down zones either side of Lambert Road near Lower Primary for parents dropping off children. Parents are not permitted to drive into the school grounds to drop off or pick up their children unless using Kiss and Go. Parents are encouraged to use the Kiss and Go Zone, which operates between 7:55am – 8:10am and 3:05pm – 3:30pm in the Stolz Oval car park. This service has been provided to ease congestion along Lambert Road and to ensure our children are safe. Students from Years 1–6 can utilise this service.
The drop off area for Upper Primary students is on Harts Road. This can also be congested at times, so care must be taken at peak times around this area.
Before School – Lower Primary
Children should arrive no earlier than 8:00am and should depart immediately after school finishes, unless attending Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) or a supervised afterschool activity. Although supervision is provided for a short period before and after school, to ensure the safety of children arriving and departing, it is not intended that this should be an extended play time. Please note that, for safety reasons, children should not be at school unaccompanied by an adult before 8:00am, as this is when playground supervision begins.
Children who arrive unaccompanied before 8:00am or who do not depart promptly after school, or immediately after an after-school activity, will be taken into Outside School Hours Care and the usual fee will be charged.
Before School – Upper Primary
Duty commences from 7:45am. Students arriving prior to this should also be in an authorised before school activity or Outside School Hours Care.
During School
Students in Prep - Year 6 will receive an ID card early in the school year. Students in Years 5 and 6 are required to sign in and out with this card at the Upper Primary Administration area. Parents of students from Prep – Year 4 are required to accompany their child with their ID card to the appropriate administration area if their child is arriving late or departing early. This is a mandatory procedure as it serves as a record of attendance for students throughout the College.
After School
Students should make their way promptly to the designated pick-up areas as soon as school has finished unless attending supervised after-school activities. They may not play on College grounds enroute to and from school. To prevent any misunderstandings or concern for your child’s safety, please ensure that the school is advised of any changes in travelling arrangements.
In the event your child is unable to attend school because of illness, medical appointments etc., it is the responsibility of parents to contact the College before 8:00am.
Students in Prep – Year 4: Please advise of the intended absence by emailing lpattendance@stpeters.qld.edu.au. A phone call to the Lower Primary absentee line for Prep – Year 4 on +61 7 3377 6565 can be an alternative.
Students in Years 5 and 6: Please advise of the intended absence by emailing upattendance@stpeters.qld.edu.au. A phone call to the Upper Primary absentee line for students in Years 5 and 6 on +61 7 3377 6123 can be an alternative.
An SMS message will be sent to your mobile if absences are unexplained. If you receive an SMS, please reply to this notification of your child’s whereabouts as a matter of urgency.
The Primary Years Parent Support Group provide further opportunities for parents to become involved in the College and new members are always most welcome. These groups meet on a regular basis (once per term) and dates for meeting times can be found in the school calendar and towards the back of this guide.
It is a requirement of the College that any parent, volunteer or individual visiting the College campus sign in at the designated administration areas. Upon signing in, visitors will receive a visitor badge. This applies to all volunteers (parents, family members, visitors etc.) helping in classrooms as well as anyone who is on the College grounds. The safety of our children is paramount. Parent volunteers will also be expected to complete our Parent Volunteer Induction before they can work in the Primary Years classrooms.
A warm welcome is extended to you all for your journey in Primary Years in 2024.

Students must report to school on the first day in the correct uniform and adhere to our grooming expectations – in particular we ask that appointments for haircuts be made prior to the commencement of the College year and not left until the first week of school. Please refer to the Junior High School Handbook 2024 on Firefly.
St Peters Lutheran College recognises that access to a mobile telephone for some students provides peace of mind for parents, enables emergency arrangements to be made conveniently and, in some cases, provides greater safety for students. Their presence in the College can also have negative consequences such as taking video and photos of people without their permission, temptation to theft, possibility of loss, the potential for cheating, ease of making harassing or bullying calls and possible disruption of classes, assemblies and worship.
Students in Junior High are permitted to bring mobile phones to school but they are to remain in their locker for the day. In their use of mobile phones students must adhere to the College’s Acceptable Use of Technology Policy. Phones will be confiscated and kept at Junior High Reception if they are being used. Students must not contact parents directly if they are sick or wish to go home. They are to report to Junior High Reception if unwell.
The College accepts no responsibility for the loss, theft, unauthorised use or damage of any mobile phone or media player.
Our camp programs in Junior High (Year 7 Camp, 8 Camp and Year 9 Ironbark) are compulsory parts of our curriculum. If you have concerns regarding your child’s ability to attend please make an appointment to meet with the Head of Junior High to discuss.
Year 7 Camp
The camp dates are Wednesday 12 June to Friday 14 June, 2024.
Year 8 Camp
The camp dates are Tuesday 9 July – Friday 12 July, 2024. This is the first week of Term 3. It is a gazetted school week. Extended vacations during this time will not be approved.
Year 9 Ironbark
For safety reasons, parents are asked NOT to drop their child off on campus. Harts Road is the best location for dropping off and picking up of Junior High students before and after school. If students have a large musical instrument they may be dropped off – a drop off pass can be applied for.
During the course of the school day (after 8:30am and before 2:30pm) if your child is ill or needs to go to an appointment, parents can access the visitors’ car parks in the internal bus stop for pickup and drop off. If a student is injured they may be dropped off on campus.
Under no circumstances should parents drop students off on the orange crossing in front of Junior High Reception. Orange zones and yellow lines on campus mean no stopping at any time.

All new students in Years 10-12 (i.e. those students who are new to St Peters) will commence on Friday 19 January for a special Orientation program tailored for the needs of new students. All new students are to attend in full formal school uniform and meet on the steps to the Chapel at 8:00am. Students are not required to bring any textbooks on this day, just a notebook, laptop, lock for their locker and writing materials. Students are asked to provide their own morning tea, but lunch will be provided. Students can be collected from Senior School Reception at 1:10pm.
Monday 22 January is the first day of school for all Years 10-12 students. This normal school day runs from 8:00am – 3:10pm. Students should meet at the following venues at 8:00am:
Normal classes will commence on this date – all equipment, books, etc will be required for the start of lessons in Period 2.
Please note: as St Peters is cashless, the Café will not be able to be accessed by new students until ID Cards are issued. Therefore, new students will need to bring their morning tea and lunch for the first few days.
Identification (ID) photos for all new students will be taken during the first few days of Term 1.
The Senior School Parent Information Evening in 2024 will take place on Wednesday 7 February. Further information will be sent in the new year.
Every effort has been made by the Coordinator of Academic Operations to provide the pattern of study requested, but this may not always be possible. Students have been given the opportunity to request a change of subject prior to the end of the 2023 school year. Should students wish to request to change a subject after this time, there will be an opportunity during Week 2 of Term 1. After this time a change will not be granted. The ‘Application for Change of Subject’ form needs to be completed (find these on FireFly via the Senior School ‘Curriculum’ tab) and emailed or handed in to the Head of Curriculum - Students.
Subject changes are not always possible due to constraints such as class sizes or timetable clashes with other subjects. Please note that requests to subject allocations are processed as quickly as possible – we ask for your patience. You will be notified by email of the outcome of a request to change a subject. Information regarding teacher allocations and lesson timetables will be provided to students at the commencement of the 2024 school year.
Senior School Reception is located in Thiele Block opposite Shop 45 and the Academic Hub (near Café 45). Hours of operation are 7:30am – 3:45pm. Please call – Phone: +61 7 3377 6255.
Students must report to school on the first day in the correct uniform and adhere to our grooming expectations. In particular, we ask that appointments for haircuts be made prior to the commencement of the school year and not left until the first week of school. If at any stage your child is in the incorrect uniform, they should liaise with their Year Level Coordinator in the first instance before going to lessons.
Please refer to the following documents on Firefly for information regarding BYOT requirements.

St Peters recognises that access to a mobile telephone for some students provides peace of mind for parents, enables emergency arrangements to be made conveniently and, in some cases, provides greater safety for students. Their presence at school can also have negative consequences.
Students in Senior School are permitted to bring mobile phones to school under certain conditions, but they should not be used through the day. Phones should be kept in lockers throughout the day. Students are not permitted to have headphones in their ears when moving around campus. Phones will be confiscated and kept at Senior School Reception if they are being used inappropriately.
The College accepts no responsibility for the loss, theft, unauthorised use or damage of any mobile phone.

St Peters Music Department has a nationally and internationally acclaimed reputation and is an inclusive and active department with a place for all who would like to be involved. All students are encouraged to learn instruments and to sing or play in ensembles and therefore take part in the rich and diverse musical life available to them at St Peters.
For information about the College’s Music programs, specific sub-school handbooks are available for collection from the PAC Reception. Alternatively, please email music@stpeters.qld.edu.au with your specific Sub-School request and we will ensure you receive a copy.
St Peters Music Ensemble Program offers over 40 instrumental and vocal ensemble opportunities, including string orchestras, choirs, concert bands, stage bands, percussion ensembles, guitar ensembles and chamber music groups. Students are welcome to pursue their musical interests and develop their skills in one or more of these ensembles.
To enable us to place all students who want to be involved in the most appropriate instrumental ensemble for their current level of musical experience, we hold auditions for entry to bands and string orchestras. Auditions are held in the first week of Term 1, 2024 (please sign up on the noticeboard in the Performing Arts Centre). Please contact David Deacon (Head of Strings) - Phone: +61 7 3377 6530 or Grantley Sutch (Head of Bands) – Phone: +61 7 3377 6554 for more information.
There are no auditions for most choirs at the College. The exceptions are St Peters Chorale (Years 9-12) and Vox Camerata (Year 8-12). Students who wish to audition for these choirs are requested to contact Ms Kathryn Morton, Chorale Director, - Phone: +61 7 3377 6950 or Christine Taylor (Head of Choirs) – Phone: +61 7 3377 6510.
Participation in music ensembles contributes to the College’s expectation that all students participate in two cocurricular activities.
At St Peters, individual lessons are taught by highly qualified teachers who are experts in their field. Most students have a 30 minute lesson, with some advanced students offered an extended session. Further information is available from music@stpeters.qld.edu.au.

St Peters Lutheran College offers a comprehensive cocurricular Sport program for students in the Primary Years through to the Senior School. The College community provides equipment and coaching for over 25 sports, and students have access to a range of sporting fields, courts and pools. St Peters is a member of a number of formal sporting associations. These include the Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA), Brisbane School Girls Rowing Association (BSRA), for girls, and the Associated Independent Colleges (AIC), for boys. Our students also compete in a range of Inter- ¬¬Lutheran, and various club (Western Districts Netball Association and Brisbane Water Polo Incorporated) competitions throughout the year.
The overall wellbeing of our students is important to us at St Peters. Our Athletic Development Program (ADP) provides safe and structured programs for students to perform in a supervised environment, and our expert staff in the Sport Department are committed to honing the skills of our students. As a result, St Peters has produced multiple state, national and international athletes. The College boasts Australia’s finest swimming program and is home to the St Peters Western Swim Club.
St Peters is a member of the formal inter-school sporting competition known as AIC (Associated Independent Colleges). There are eight schools and 13 sports on offer in the AIC competition. Matches are played on a rotational basis, whereby all schools compete against each other throughout the season. AIC matches count towards aggregate points and an overall winning school is determined on completion of the season. The competition includes boys from Years 5-12 and fixtures are split across competing schools to accommodate increased participation.
The diverse range of sports offered to boys in Years 5-12 caters to varied interests and ability levels. St Peters Sport recognises the importance of positive sporting experiences in a young man’s development and accepts that competitions focused solely on winning and losing can create undue pressure on students. To this end, in junior year levels, there is increased emphasis placed on enjoyment, fair participation and skill development. As our sportsmen mature, the aforementioned attributes remain important while a sense of competition also shifts into focus. In the senior year levels, results become an increasing part of shared team goals and successes.
An overview of the Boys Sport Handbook is available via the St Peters App.
Boys AIC Sport Program - Overview
Note: Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field are the AIC Core Sports. All others are AIC Team Sports.
Non-AIC Sports are also offered at St Peters include Boys Rowing - Terms 1 & 2.
Girls Sport at St Peters has a long history of high participation and performance across all competitions. We encourage girls to be actively involved in gaining the well-rounded education offered to them at the College. Valuable life lessons can be gained from involvement in these programs including developing resilience, teamwork skills and positive attitudes, as well as the benefits of physical health and fitness. The sense of being part of the St Peters community through involvement in the cocurricular program cannot be understated.
The College is involved in two prestigious sporting associations, Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) and Brisbane Schoolgirls’ Rowing Association (BSRA). There are ten schools in the formal QGSSSA competition and fixtures are played on a rotational basis, whereby all schools compete against each other throughout the season.
Girls also have the opportunity to participate in the Brisbane Water Polo Inc (BWPI) and the Queensland Inter-School Equestrian Association (QISEA). Each association is organised and administrated independently of each other. This means that each association offers a different range of sports at different times during the year and has a different set of procedures and guidelines. Where possible, the College endeavours to keep student expectations and policies consistent between the associations.
An overview of the Girls Sport Handbook is available via the St Peters App.

AN ACTIVE START TO SCHOOLING
The St Peters Sport program is an important part of the College’s extended educational experience. Sport provides numerous social, emotional and physical benefits and that’s why it is one of the key cocurricular opportunities we offer to all students, from Prep – Year 12. The goal of the Primary Sport program is to equip young students with the skills and knowledge they need to play a wide range of sports. The program offers additional activities to our youngest students, encouraging them to have an active start to their schooling journey.
ASSOCIATIONS & COMPETITIONS
The St Peters Primary Sport program is participation based and focuses on skill development in a nurturing environment. As the program is intended to prepare students for Sport in the higher Year Levels, the Boys and Girls programs operate independently. Our Years 5 and 6 boys participate in the Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) competition. Our girls are members of multiple associations, all of which are outlined below. There are also a number of additional options, coordinated by St Peters Sport, but provided by external organisations. These programs require a participation fee.
PAID SPORTS PROGRAMS (BOYS & GIRLS)
The Paid Sports Programs on offer to St Peters Primary students take place on campus after school. They typically run for 5-7 weeks and are offered by external organisations. Because of this, they are subject to change. Please use the table below as a guide only. Detailed, up-to-date information is provided to current St Peters Primary Years families via the internal Firefly communication platform at the start of each Term.
Primary Sport Program - Overview
** A Primary Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field Team will be selected to compete at the Primary Inter Lutheran Carnivals.
In addition to the programs listed above, boys from Years 5 and up can participate in the Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) competition. There are eight schools that compete and matches are played on a rotational basis. In some instances, boys in Year 4 are able to trial for a spot in AIC teams—more information about this is provided at the start of each school year.
Girls in Years 4 – 6 are involved in the Andrews Cup Association’s ‘Metro Meets’ competition—a formal competition that focuses on participation while offering students a taste of the sports that feature in the Years 7 – 12 Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA) competition. Girls in Years 3 – 6 girls are also encouraged to participate the College’s Western Districts Netball Association (WDNA) and BWPI Water Polo club teams.
Throughout the year, Primary Sport hosts three Inter-House Carnivals—Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field. These carnivals allow students to experience the College’s core sports before representation opportunities commence in Years 4 – 6. In these Year Levels, students are selected to represent St Peters in the Southern Lutheran Associated Primary Schools (SLAPS) competition and the Northern Eagles District competition.
** A Primary Swimming, Cross Country and Track & Field Team will be selected to compete at the Primary Inter Lutheran Carnivals.

St Peters offers many activities in which students can be involved. Each student is challenged to discover, develop and use their gifts and talents for personal growth and service to others.
Students from Junior High and Senior School will be able to find contact details from Sub-School Receptions.
Access Arts provides opportunities for students in Years 7–12 to work in the Art studios after school and provides additional workshops for students to get involved in the Arts
The da Vinci Decathlon began in 2005 and is designed to celebrate the academic gifts of Australian youth by providing a stimulating and challenging competition run in the spirit of an Olympic Decathlon.
St Peters has been a competitive participant of da Vinci Decathlon for approximately a decade. This academic competition takes place over three days and requires a team of eight students competing in ten separate academic disciplines: engineering, mathematics and chess, code breaking, art and poetry, science, English, philosophy, creative producers, cartography and general knowledge. Students gain entry to da Vinci Decathlon teams via an application process.

QDU debating is open to students in Years 7–12., as part of the QDU Secondary Schools Competition. The Years 8 – 12 competition consists of four preliminary rounds held throughout Terms 1 and 2, followed by a final series held in Term 3. St Peters competes against other independent schools as well as Catholic and State High Schools.
The Year 7 competition is run by the QDU across Terms 1 - 3. This is a six-round competition, with two short-preparation debates in round 3 and round 6. St Peters is usually the host of the Year 7 competition.
St Peters also competes in the QDU Primary Schools Competition. This competition is for Years 5 and 6 students and consists of four rounds of debating, in Terms 3 and 4, held at a school in the Western suburbs area.
The Duke of Edinburgh (DoE) Award is a youth development and leadership program for young people aged between 14 and 25 years. Students progress through the sections at their own pace.
The Award encourages personal development in four key areas of Skills, Volunteering, Physical Recreation/Fitness and Adventurous Journey.
The DoE Award takes on different formats and participants enrol in the Bronze, Silver or Gold Award programs in any given year.
Ethics Olympiad encourages respectful listening, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity whilst also encouraging students to articulate their ideas in respectful dialogue. Participating students explore interesting and relevant ethical scenarios/cases and discuss the ideas that these inspire. Students practice using their skills in engaging in careful and critical ethical discourse (similar to the deep discussions that might occur around the dinner table).
Groups are given a series of eight case studies to explore, containing topical issues of an ethical nature. Once familiar with the cases and study questions, students construct a response to each issue. Students meet with teams from other schools on competition day to engage in a full-day online competition. Teams are paired together and take turns delivering and critiquing responses to the case studies. A judge assesses the dialogue between the two teams and can pose further questions to widen students’ thinking. The judges employed in the Ethics Olympiad are experts in philosophy, including postgraduate and doctoral students of philosophy and academic staff from various universities.
Students gain entry to Ethics Olympiad teams via an application process.
St Peters has been competing in Ethics Olympiads since 2019 and have had success nationally and internationally.
Future Problem Solving (FPS) is a research-based, academic program that teaches problem solving strategies, collaboration, critical and creative thinking, and effective communication. The interdisciplinary approach helps develop ethical leadership skills, prepares students for future challenges, and equips them with the skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
The program is structured around a series of competitions that challenge students to apply their creativity and problem-solving skills to real-world issues and scenarios. Students are presented with a complex scenario or problem. They are asked to identify the underlying issues, generate solutions, evaluate the pros and cons of each solution, and select the best course of action.
Students work in teams to develop their solutions and are judged on the creativity, originality, and feasibility of their ideas.
Students begin training at the beginning of the school year, working through several practice problems before taking part in the Qualifying round in August. The qualification booklet determines which teams will compete at the National competition in October. Further success at the national level can mean students qualify for the international competition, usually held in the USA in June of the following year.
Students gain entry to Future Problem Solving teams via an application process.
St Peters has had several decades of involvement in Future Problem Solving achieving success at National and International competitions.
St Peters offers a range of programs to promote digital learning, including Robotics, eSports and Coding.
Robotics is a year-long, lunch and after school program offered to all students from Years 5-12 as a space to design, code and build robots. Coaches are available to assist students, who work in teams or independently. Students can choose to compete in the many local, interstate and international competitions. At times, St Peters students work in a collaborative team with students from the Grammar Schools and Grace Lutheran College.
eSports, or competitive gaming, is a popular program at St Peters, with over seven leagues to choose from. Students compete in a variety of online weekly competitions, face-to-face events and Inter-School friendlies. Students from Years 5-12 can be involved in this lunch and afterschool activity.
Coding combines problem-solving through a social, business and technical lens, producing high-quality business plans, pitch videos and working app or game prototypes. Students will learn the basics of coding but do not need any prior programming experience to enter.
The Service Learning at St Peters is integrated into the life and work of the whole College. Students learn by engaging with others on how they can make a real difference.
Service Learning involves formal curriculum-based activities in Year 9 Christian Studies in which academic goals are accomplished through community service, through various projects including visiting aged care centres, collecting toiletries and knitting beanies for the Homeless.
There is also a multitude of extra-curricular opportunities through the Social Justice, Multicultural and Environment groups for students from Years 7–12 to apply their gifts and resources in support of others.
Theatresports is improvised theatrical entertainment played as a spectator sport. Teams of players invent spontaneously assembled scenes from suggestions they are given within set structures and rules of individual games. Teams are judged on their ability to follow the rules of each game, deliver a cohesive story line and entertain the audience.
Theatresports increases students’ confidence, listening skills and teamwork, as well as exercising creative thinking and problem-solving abilities in a hilarious, fun and supportive environment. It also provides valuable opportunities for students to implement, practice and extend the lessons in narrative, play-building and characterisation taught in the drama classroom within a real-world context.
Shake Fest is a state-wide competition run by Shake & Stir Theatre Company. It provides a unique opportunity for Arts students across Queensland to focus their artistic abilities in an all-inclusive creative competition celebrating the works of William Shakespeare. Students prepare their own interpretation of a Shakespearean work and compete with other students across Queensland in the following categories: monologue, duologue, scenes, dance, music, design, photography and film. Their work is a adjudicated by industry professionals in a performance weekend held at La Boite’s Roundhouse Theatre.
We have many keen writers at St Peters who enjoy discussing, co-creating and encouraging each other’s writing.
Visual Arts and Performing Arts review (VAPAr) is a culmination of student Fashion, Design, Art, Film, Media, Music, Performances and Drama.
VAPAr has been going for over 15 years and is one of the flagship events for the Arts. VAPAr is about the Visual Arts and the Performing Arts all coming together.
