Dear Parents and Guardians, 

I hope this message finds you well. As the Director of Boarding at St Peters, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our Boarding families as we begin another exciting academic year. 

I hope you enjoy this new online publication. We will endeavour to share with our St Peters Boarding community news and insights from myself and key leaders within our College community who work with our Boarders. 

We look forward to working with you and your children as we strive to provide a safe, supportive, and challenging environment for their growth and development. Our goal is to ensure that your child feels at home while away from home and makes the most of the enriching activities on offer.

We encourage all our students to participate in co and extra-curricular activities as these provide opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and life-long friendships. Many options are available, including Sport, Music, Performing Arts, Digital, various clubs and Community Service projects. 

The Boarding Camps we completed during the first weekend of the College year were a great way for new and returning boarders to become part of the Residential Community and to have fun in a positive and supportive environment. The Camps provide a unique opportunity for Boarders to bond with their peers, participate in outdoor activities, and build lifelong memories. 

Please do not hesitate to contact the cocurricular directors or me if you have any questions about the programs or how your child can get in involved. I am here to support you and your child throughout their time at St Peters Boarding. 

The Boarding House Leaders or BHLs are working with our Boarders and the College to assist all our Boarders at the start of the year. By now, you would have received communication from the BHLs regarding your child’s Residential House: Schilling, Cameron Herse, Ludcke Mutze or Finger.

My journey into St Peters Boarding really started back in 2005 when I started at St Peters as a Year 8 student and my mum began her first year as Head of Girls Boarding at St Peters. I have so many fond memories as a 'sort of boarder' where I was able to join in on all the fun and exciting Boarding activities through my high school years, but also being able to enjoy the luxuries of living at home and not having to bug mum or dad to send through my weekend leave details by Wednesday night. I know my Boarding peers were very envious that I got the best of both worlds.  

After graduating from high school, I travelled to America for six years where I completed my university degree in Sports and Exercise Science. From there I eventually made my way back to Australia to begin my second degree in Secondary Education and while I was completing this degree, I came back to St Peters Boarding to work part-time. Six years and two degrees later, I never quite made it into the classroom to become a teacher as I fell in love with the St Peters Boarding community and found that my passion is creating connections with the students outside of the classroom and supporting them in all aspects of life. I am so happy I made the decision to stay in Boarding and I feel like this is only the beginning for me and my journey within a Boarding community.

Cameron Herse House Leader  

My name is Sam Chew and I started work at St Peters this year as the Ludcke Mutze House Leader. As a bit of background, I grew up in Maryborough, which is about three hours north of Brisbane, and spent most of my free time playing any sport I had time for, though predominately Cricket, Soccer, Touch Football and AFL. After completing school, I completed my Heavy Metal Fabrication trade at the Maryborough Sugar Factory before moving on to build trains at Downer EDI. Following this I spent eight months overseas playing cricket and upon returning worked in my trade until I began my teaching degree and took on a new role in Boarding at The Rockhampton Grammar School in early 2017. I immediately found a love of Boarding and the pastoral care side that it entails. While I may head back to finish my teaching degree at some stage, for now I have committed myself entirely to ensuring that my care and attention is 100% on Boarding, the children in my care, along with their wellbeing and personal growth. I look forward to meeting everyone over the coming year.

Ludcke Mutze House Leader 

Boarding Camp 2023 was an experience never to be forgotten. In my last Boarding Camp at St Peters, witnessing everything for the final time gave me a completely different perspective of this weekend. As a Senior I was given the opportunity to look after and help the younger girls, with whom I’d had brief conversations with before entering the weekend, and walk out of it changed. Changed for the better—seeing the look on the younger and new girls' faces, when they realised that this was their new Boarding family. Activities such as raft building, canoeing, sailing, dodgeball and simply cooking at night with my 'daughters' made the smile on my face grow as I watched new connections form. Finger took the win for the infamous annual dodgeball match for the second year in a row. Although this accomplishment warmed me from the inside out, knowing that for my last year I got to stand alongside my younger sisters and do it with them was the all-time prize. In addition, my highlight of this Boarder Camp was that I got to witness the acceptance of home and family, by each and every girl there.

This year's Boarding Camp was a very special start to 2023. It was my first and last Boarding Camp and it will forever hold some of my fondest memories at the College. From the moment we arrived on the beautiful coast of Noosa Northshore, we dived right into non-stop action with activities including picking up a footy and clashing in the annual Ludcke Mutze vs Schilling touch game, Lasertag, surfing, rock climbing, mountain bike riding and more. However, the Camp served a greater purpose than just having fun. Without knowing it, we had been involved in a weekend full of opportunities for growth and excitement. I got to see my own brothers work together to overcome obstacles and challenges and to strengthen our friendship and sense of community in the Boarding house. I believe that this valuable experience will help to strengthen our Boarder spirit in the day school and has brought us closer together as brothers.

On Friday 3 February we celebrated the outstanding academic achievements of our Senior School students, including graduates from our Class of 2022, at our Scholars Assembly. Congratulations to the following Boarders, we're so very proud of you and of the time and effort you've invested in your studies.
