Welcome one and all to the 2021 school year
A special welcome to students and families who are new to our St Peters community. It has been a delight to see parents and students back on site this week. These are among the most exciting days of the year as the hum of life and learning at St Peters resumes once again. We continue our steady growth, this year starting with over 660 students in Prep to Year 12, an increase from 610 at the end of 2020.
Kindergarten Expansion
The first stage of the Kindergarten expansion was completed over the holiday period with our 2021 Kindergarten children back in the Kindergarten facility as of this week. The remaining works to complete the second classroom will be finalised in February and families have already been registering their interest with the Kindergarten for these new vacancies which will soon become available.
Thank you once again to families for your understanding and flexibility and to the Kindy team, Prep teachers, OSHC team, QLECS and Mrs West-McInnes for the investment of significant time and energy to ensure that our services have been able to operate safely and effectively during this transition and construction period.
Year 12 2020 Outcomes
Last year, Year 12 students across the state graduated under the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) which included externally-set, state-wide, subject-based assessments which contributed as much as 50% of marks toward subject results. Overall Positions (OPs) were replaced by ATARs (Australian Tertiary Admissions Ranks) calculated by QTAC (Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre) which are subject to new privacy regulations.
Of our 2020 graduates, at least 80% will proceed directly on to university with over 46% of those going to University of Queensland, 27% to Queensland University of Technology, 15% to Griffith University, 8% to University of Southern Queensland and 4% to Southern Cross University.
University-bound 2020 graduates will be studying in a diverse range of fields reflecting the interests and passions of our young people and including Agribusiness, Arts, Behavioural Science, Biomedicine, Business, Commerce, Design, Education, Engineering, Film & Screen Production, Health Science, Intelligent Digital Technologies, Information Technology, Law, Paramedicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Psychology, Social Work and Veterinary Technology.
We hold our Old Scholars in our prayers and look forward to celebrating excellence in academic achievement at the upcoming Academic Honours Assembly in Week 3 when we will present our Year 12 2020 Dux, Proxime Accessit and Subject Award winners.
Founders Day Service
This Friday 29 January, we will hold our Founders Day Service acknowledging our Founders, installing new staff, affirming continuing staff and giving thanks to God for His blessing. Our history provides us with a rich sense of identity, reminds us of our core mission and purpose, fills us with appreciation and inspires us.
In previous years we included the installation of our Seniors (Year 12s) in this service, however, conscious that some parents would like to attend and given COVID considerations, the installation of Seniors will take place during the upcoming Academic Honours Assembly in Week Three. It is a most appropriate opportunity to install the 2021 Seniors as we celebrate accomplishment and set our academic sails for the year ahead. We hope that our current students will be inspired by the achievements of the 2020 Seniors.

Advancing Teaching and Learning
In 2020, we established a new role of Contemporary Learning Leader to support the development of contemporary pedagogies in the Primary years. Despite last year’s challenges, we made excellent progress in the development of inquiry learning due to the commitment of the team and the leadership of Mrs Hofstee who served, and continues to serve, in this Contemporary Learning Leader role.
To further support our commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, Mr Alexander Mason has been appointed as Leader of Teaching and Learning Innovation with a focus on Junior High. Mr Mason will be working with the Secondary teaching team to ensure outcomes for our young people are optimised and teaching and learning in Junior High effectively connects our evolving Primary years program through to the rigours of Senior School under the new QCE.
Students will flourish both personally and academically when in a state of wellbeing, and when teaching and learning is taking place in a healthy school culture which values growth, care and excellence. To provide further support to staff, students and families, Mrs Kerrie Anglin has been appointed to serve as Senior School Key Pastoral Care Teacher. This is a new role and complements the roles of Mrs Kathryn Boase (Junior High Key Pastoral Care Teacher) and Mr Matthew Knight (Upper Primary Key Pastoral Care Teacher).
We congratulate Mr Mason and Mrs Anglin on their new roles and look forward to watching our St Peters community continue to grow and develop.
As we launch into 2021, may God grant us all we need as parents and staff to wisely guide, support, educate, equip and inspire our young people.
