Recycling the Present – Save the Future
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not. Dr Suess
One of our important fortnightly activities to give our students voice is our Student Council meeting. Many activities and programs have been developed from class suggestions at this student council level to improve or change our school. One of these has been our recycling program which has been taken up by our Year 4 teachers and students to manage and has gone from strength to strength.
Our students are passionate about improving our recycling program and suggestions have been made to start the container recycling program. Work is under way to organise a company to pick up our containers. The money raised for Term 1 will go towards providing the equipment for our program with the following term's money being donated to our nominated charity. More details regarding this will be sent home shortly next week.
It is important for our students to realise that things get done in the world by people who care, who try and who give their best to what they are doing. Sometimes change can be overwhelming because of the amount of steps it takes to get there but students are finding out that if they put their attention on one thing that needs improving, they can increase the amount of care and thought to improve. Primary student council initiatives has shown this time and time again.
Teacher Relationships
As we start our new year with students moving to new classes and new teachers it is a time of developing important teacher student relationships. Each student needs to believe that their teacher cares for them, wants the best for them and will take steps to make sure there are the right learning conditions, support and encouragement to help them improve in their development. This should be across all the learning areas.
Over the coming weeks, teachers will be planning relationship building activities so they get to know each student well and developing the trust needed in each classroom for growth to happen.
Enrichment Activities Term 1
We are excited to be offering a range of enrichment lunch clubs and after school activities to cater for the diversity of interests and skills.
Our Enrichment Club program is attached to this newsletter. Please let your child know which clubs are on each day so they can make a range of choices in their lunch breaks.
Our After-School Programs have started and high numbers are attending. Tennis, Rugby, Netball, STEM activities and Chess are focused on skill development, resilience, persistence and creativity.
We thank our families for your continued support as we begin our 2020 school year.
Warm regards
