College Spirit
Secondary Years Swimming Carnival
On Friday 3rd February, our Secondary students engaged in our annual House Swimming Carnival. The day was a magnificent display of revitalised College spirit. We know that school spirit contributes a significant role in creating a sense of belonging and a general positive atmosphere for our staff and students on campus. We also know that physical activity is a core element of the integrated development of mind and body. Research has consistently shown that physical activity not only benefits children's physical health, but also their mental and emotional well-being. Physical activity and more specifically, sport, builds self-confidence and self-efficacy, enhances physical, social, and cognitive abilities, and improves academic achievement.
It is not necessary for a student to be ‘sporty’ to enjoy our carnivals. Parents and families play a key role in emphasising the positive aspects of participation in all aspects of our college. By encouraging qualities such as perseverance, initiative and independence, students can experience a feeling of success and enjoyment. Active participation in sport encourages students to acquire knowledge of the relationship between care of the body, wellbeing, and an active and healthy lifestyle.
It was great to see so many students swimming, cheering, and supporting their friends last Friday. We look forward to continued engagement with our carnivals throughout the year.
Scholars Assembly
On Thursday 9th of February, we acknowledged and celebrated our 2022 scholars during our Scholars Assembly. The academic results from our 2022 Scholars are a testament to a confluence of factors; the sacrifice and support of parents; the care, concern, and excellent teaching from our teachers; and the grit, focus and hard work from our students.
We know that recognition of academic achievements can act as a motivator for students to continue their efforts and maintain their focus on their education. We also remember that our college must play a role in nurturing the spiritual, moral, ethical, emotional, cultural, social, and physical development of our students in addition to the academic development. There is an inextricable link between student wellbeing and connectedness, and success in the classroom. Celebrating academic achievement is an important aspect of student development and helps to create a supportive learning environment. Yet this is only one aspect of the St Peters vision: A Learning Community Where People Flourish.
Our teachers and staff know the gift and task of a St Peters education is forming and empowering fine young people of character, who, capable of managing their own learning, use their gifts to lead and serve their communities and in doing so make a difference in the world. Having attended St Peters Springfield, we know that our 2022 Scholars are very well placed to make their mark on the world.
