75 Years
We extend our congratulations to our 2019 graduates for their academic success. One third of all of our 2019 graduates received an Overall Position of 1-6. We had the highest percentage of OP1-5 students as a percentage of our graduating class in the Springfield area and the second highest in Ipswich.
We are pleased with these results and with the capacity of our students to pursue their desired pathways. Of our 2019 graduates, 86% have proceeded to university and 14% to TAFE or directly to the workforce. University destinations include the University of Queensland (37%), Griffith University (21%), University of Southern Queensland (21%) and the Queensland University of Technology (10%).
Our tertiary bound graduates are pursuing fields of study including nursing, aviation, human services, medical sonography, criminology & justice, information technology, sport and exercise science, engineering, arts, advanced science, clinical physiology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, marine science, health science, forensic science, law, education, computer science.
My commendation to our graduates and thanks to our teaching staff for their diligence, expertise, support and advocacy of our young people. May God bless our graduates richly along the next part of their journey and give focus, direction and inspiration to our current students as they continue their studies and preparations for that which lies ahead.
Recent Matters
I wish to extend my appreciation to the staff, students and families of the St Peters Springfield community for the manner of response to the news and events of last week. This has not been an easy period for our community and there have been many difficult conversations at home and at school requiring sensitivity, love and wisdom. The support, grace and understanding of the community has been of great help and encouragement to many. Thank you for your care, support and prayers.
At such a time, it has been a great blessing to be a part of the larger St Peters with immediate support from our Head of College and Deputy Head of College, Senior Leadership Team, the counselling and chaplaincy teams, teaching faculty and our People and Culture team.
We continue to support our school community as we journey through this loss and have been in regular contact with Mr Stott’s family who, despite their grief, have shown great love, care and concern for our school community.
75 Years
It is good to remember and appreciate the foundations of who we are. Thursday this week is Founders Day and the 75th anniversary of the opening of St Peters Lutheran College, Indooroopilly. The official opening ceremony was held on the morning of 20 February 1945. That afternoon the 56 founding students purchased their books at the school bookshop ready for lessons the next day.
Reading the first edition of The Review from 1945 as I write, it is clear that from its foundation, St Peters has been a school committed to not only excellence in academic endeavour but also the formation of young men and women of exceptional character, faith and influence who would sow positively into our state, nation and world. This foundational vision remains central to who we are today. The means by which we pursue that vision, however, continues to evolve in response to our changing world and as we pursue best and next practice, living out our Plus Ultra motto, ever higher – more beyond.
