RACQ
A recent visit by the RACQ Streets Ahead Education Program supported our Health program by focusing on road safety rules.
Our Prep – Year 6 students participated in interactive activities on 25/26 February with RACQ Education Officers to develop further knowledge of road safety rules. This was a request from our Student Council in 2019 for bike safety information for Upper Primary. We had to postpone our 2020 presentation until this year, and it was worth the wait for these engaging presentations.
The specially designed road mat gave our Prep to year 2 the ability to learn correct road safety behaviours and practice crossing the road safely. They learnt that when using a Zebra Crossing, they need to Stop, Look, Listen and Think.
One other area of education was the Safety Door. Each student was sent home with a stick on sign to add to the family car so students are aware of the Safety Door. It is the rear passenger door that opens closest to the footpath or nature strip. Using the Safety Door will keep your child off the road when they enter and exit the car.
For our Year 3 - 6 students, our Education Officers demonstrate the importance of responsible behaviours and safety equipment, like helmets and seatbelts, through engaging lessons. They also shared the laws for riding on the road on a bike or skateboard.
Please find the link to the material and activities presented to our students for follow up at home.

Harmony Week - Everyone Belongs 16 March
Harmony Week is held each year to celebrate our cultural diversity and promote participation, inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. This year, celebrations will be held from 15 to 21 March 2021.
Australia is a vibrant and multicultural country, from the oldest continuous culture of our first Australians to the cultures of our newest arrivals from around the world. At St Peters Springfield we are blessed to have over 30 different cultures represented in our community.
To celebrate our cultural diversity, students are able to wear cultural dress on Tuesday 16 March. Activities will also take place in classrooms on this day. Students are also able to bring their uniform to change into if they need to participate in sports activities.
There is a separate flyer attached with Cornerstone today with information.
Parent Teacher Interviews End of Term 1
We are in the process of organising parent-teacher interviews for the end of Term 1. This is an important time to connect with your child’s teacher/s to review Term 1 and then set goals for Term 2 and beyond. There will be a range of times for parents to access interviews with a block time on Thursday 25 March from 3:00 – 6:00 pm.
Some families may also like their Upper Primary child to be present during the interview so they can be involved in the goal setting.
National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence 19 March
The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is a day for our St Peters community to say Bullying. No Way! Students are able to wear a splash of orange of this day to highlight the importance of this message. It will also be a day to highlight our everyday work to counter bullying and violence. More information will be sent out closer to the date.
Primary Discos and Parent Session 19 March
We are excited that our Primary Discos will resume this term thanks to our P&F. There will be 3 different discos – Prep, Yr 1-3 and Yr 4-6. A flyer will be sent home shortly.
This year we have also organised two parent information sessions about our Positive Education program here at St Peters. The two sessions will run while the Yr 1-3 and Yr 4-6 discos are in progress. Mrs Sarah Johnson, our school counsellor, will be presenting this session to our parents.
We are working with the P&F to organise this event.
Primary Assembly
It has been wonderful to welcome our Primary parents back to Assembly times this term. I look forward to seeing parents attending over the year as their children receive Principal Awards. There is the opportunity to take advantage of our new coffee machine at Hearts Café before Assembly as well.
Kind regards
