Welcome to Term 2! It has been exciting to see our students back on campus with refreshed enthusiasm and a renewed determination to do their very best.
In every enrolment interview here at the College, we explore the St Peters motto: Plus Ultra, that is, that at St Peters we are committed to the ‘Quest for Personal Bests’ in every aspect of College Life, particularly in our learning. Students are consistently reminded of this commitment to strive ‘Ever Higher’ throughout their day to day activities at the College.
Personal bests are brought about through setting goals and committing to them, hard work and persistence. Once we set our sights on a goal, we need to put in our best efforts to achieve it. When we face challenges, we need to have the wisdom to reach out for help when needed and the resilience to keep going and see things through to completion.
It has been a privilege to see so many personal bests and so much personal improvement being achieved by our students throughout Term 1 within their learning, their cultural and sporting pursuits and their leadership.
The College places value on students achieving their personal best through a variety of awards including when students achieve their Personal Best Grade Point Average, Principal’s Awards and co-curricular awards. It is a delight to be able to recognise student personal growth. As we move into Term 2, I encourage all St Peters students to grab hold of the possibilities and opportunities offered at our College and strive towards the heights of personal excellence and human endeavour.
Our College, at a broader strategic level, also strives ever higher. St Peters continues to build on the successes of its past while embracing a future-focused approach, one aimed at next practice and innovation.
Plus Ultra 2025 lays out the vision and direction for the years ahead - click here to view.
In 2022, some of the Key Strategic Actions that St Peters Springfield is taking to achieve our vision include:
Creating innovation in teaching and learning through embedding inquiry-based learning in the Primary Years
Creating and implementing a new Teaching & Learning Framework in the Secondary Years
Exploring the expansion of elective offerings in the Junior High
Launching and embedding the REVAMP Wellbeing Framework within the College to proactively develop Student Well-being (REVAMP: Relationships, Engagement, Vitality, Achievement, Meaning, Positive Emotions)
Enhancing and revitalising our Professional Learning Program for Staff
Expanding co-curricular music and sporting activities
Embedding authentic service learning opportunities into the life of the College
Rolling out projects funded by the College’s Innovation Fund.
I look forward to sharing more details around these actions in the future.
In Term 2, the College looks forward to continuing to work with you as parents and caregivers to bring out the very best in your child through innovative teaching and learning, a nurturing and healthy wellbeing environment and an array of life-wide co-curricular activities.

Ministry
Arise Lutheran Community Church
Arise is a Lutheran community that meets at St Peters, Springfield. It’s a place where you can come to know God’s love through Jesus, and find light and hope for your life, and connect with other families from St Peters and the wider community.
In our service you will hear God’s word, sing, pray and share in Holy Communion if you want to. There’s a message for the kids too.
Please ensure you are aware of the current Queensland Government directives with regards to isolating as a positive COVID case and quarantining as a Close Contact.
The date of the positive test is seen as Day 0 and community members must stay in isolation or quarantine for 7 full days. After Day 7, they can return to normal school/activities provided they are symptom-free. If you do have a fever, sore throat, runny nose, or a cough that is bad or getting worse, on day 7 of your isolation, you will need to remain in isolation until those symptoms have gone away.
e.g. Monday being the test day is Day 0, Tuesday is Day 1. Day 7 will be at the end of Monday of the following week meaning activity can recommence on Tuesday.

As NAPLAN will commence each morning following Pastoral Care, it is important that students arrive at school on time. In the event of absence there will be catch-up sessions conducted throughout both the first and second week of the test schedule.
NAPLAN is aligned to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics. Conventions of Language includes spelling, grammar and punctuation. Numeracy includes number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and chance and data. The Writing task will require students to write either a narrative or a persuasive text and we will not know what it is until the day of the Writing test. Year 3 students will complete the Writing test on paper.
In 2022, students will undertake NAPLAN using the online platform. NAPLAN Online delivers numerous benefits including:
a tailored test design that adapts to correct and incorrect student responses, providing a more precise understanding of student achievement
innovative use of technology, including a more engaging test design and a wider range of item types
the extension of the test window to two weeks, allowing schools greater opportunity to schedule the tests at times that suit them best and increasing student participation
Technical Requirements
Students in Year 3 will complete NAPLAN using the Year 3 iPads, which are owned and managed by St Peters and has the locked down browser installed.
Students in Year 5 will be using their BYOD iPad. The NAP locked down browser app must be downloaded (at no cost) from the app store. v1.8.3 Updated 7 October 2021
Students in Years 7 and 9 will use their BYOD laptop. The NAP locked down browser must be installed. Please click the links below to download the appropriate browser to install on the computer desktop.
Physical keyboard (wired or wireless) is required for laptops, and highly recommended for use with iPads
Parents, guardians and caregivers can support their children by making them feel comfortable about the purpose and nature of the tests and encouraging them to do their best. They can also assure students that the tests will give them an opportunity to show the knowledge and skills learned in class.
All students are encouraged to participate in NAPLAN tests. Students with a disability may qualify for adjustments that reflect the support normally provided in the classroom. Mrs Stephanie Wise, the Exceptional Learners teacher, will contact you if your child is eligible for special provisions for the tests.
A formal exemption may be granted for a student with a significant intellectual disability and/or significant coexisting conditions, or for a student who has recently arrived in Australia and has a non-English speaking background. Parents or carers may withdraw their child from the tests to address issues such as religious beliefs and philosophical objections to testing.
We would be delighted for our mothers who have children in Primary (Prep – Year 6) and Year 12 to join us for our Mother’s Day Breakfast Celebration on Friday, 6 May at 7:40am.
At St Peters Springfield, we wish to honour and celebrate our amazing mothers and maternal bonds. We thank our mothers for their contributions within their families and for their important role in our society.
On Wednesday 18 May, 9am-10am, St Peters Springfield will be hosting a Group Tour for Primary and Secondary Years. Guests will hear a presentation from our Principal, followed by a guided tour of the campus. This is a wonderful opportunity for prospective families to experience and hear about our amazing community firsthand. This tour will suit families interested in enrolling for all year levels for entry in 2024 onwards.
We would like to encourage our current families to share this event with family and friends who have expressed an interest in St Peters Springfield.

Weekly Wellbeing
Building Positive Relationships
Welcome back to Term 2.
I am on leave until Week 4, so I thought I would spend the first few weeks of term introducing key ideas from our wellbeing framework.
Our developing framework focuses on Positive Psychology, specifically Positive Psychology. REVAMP is the model we are using to develop our wellbeing strategy, revamp – relationships, engagement, vitality, accomplishment, meaning and purpose. REVAMP is used at Ironbark too as their model of wellbeing, and so we have absorbed this into our programming as well.
One of the elements of REVAMP – our Positive Education model – is Relationships.
We are all interpersonally connected and so it often means that as part of living in this World, we have to live in relationship with others.
As we know – relationships can come in all shapes and sizes, here at the College we are focusing on how to have and maintain POSTIVE relationships – as it is in having these specific relationships of support and positivity that best increase positive wellbeing.
One key to having a positive relationship is to maintain a level of High Quality Connections. It is evident in research that to have a positive relationship, one must maintain a ratio of 3 to 1 in terms of positive and negative connections. For example, if you have an argument with someone – you will need 3 positive interactions with that person for that relationship to feel safe and secure once more.
So this week, I’d like you to think about how you can use High Quality Connections a little more in your important relationships.
HOW TO HQC
Uncover Common Ground
Genuine Interest
Positive Emotions
Offer Help/Support/Service
Jokes and humour also have amazing purpose in relationship building – so making people laugh can serve as a great ratio builder!
Something to think about!
Happy First Week,
Sarah
The Arts
Term 2 | Week 1
Music Hits the mark to Improve our Memory
For almost a decade it has been understood that music listening activates the reward network in the brain. The reward network sends impulses around our brain that makes us feel “rewarded”, which are those same feelings when we are recognised for something good that we have done.
The hard working foot soldier in the reward network is dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain and body that gets the reward party started. It sends the messages through your body as this recognition of achievement is occurring, and it is this process that also transports the adrenaline that we also feel.
Another reaction from the reward network is motivation. When we feel like we have achieved success with something difficult we get a rush of dopamine and adrenaline that motivates us to keep on trying.
Music learning is a perfect vehicle to activate or reward network because it gets activated regularly, when we try and try again during practice sessions, and we finally get that difficult passage that we have been working so hard on.
This study (by Correia et al, “Enhanced recognition of vocal emotions in individuals with naturally good musical abilities”) also shows that listening to music you identify as rewarding can then improve our ability to recollect information. Music can be used as a tool to enhance memory retrieval and each person could develop their own “Musi -Memory Playlist” to help with some types of information recollection.
Congratulations to Music Award Winners
Three students were received a Certificate of Distinction for outstanding results in piano examinations. Anvi D and Gourish P received their certificates at Upper Primary assembly at the end of last term. Alexa P, who also received a certificate, was absent during the presentation.
Congratulations to all three students for such commendable results, and also to Ms Alison Pomerenke, their Piano tutor.
Ensembles Rehearsals
All ensembles recommence rehearsals this week. As several ensembles are preparing for eisteddfod and other performances, we look forward to welcoming all musicians. It is to be hoped that students prioritise attendance at rehearsals, so that ensembles are ready for their performance opportunities.
Upcoming Performances
This term will see a variety of performances, sone school-based and others community-based. There will also be performance opportunities for students involved in the Private Tuition Programme. Details will be communicated through Cornerstone and parent information letters.
The first performance will be at the school’s ANZAC Day Service on Friday. This will involve Con Brio and Cantabile Strings presenting the Music item, and Fella Voce will be leading the hymn singing.
