Welcome To Term 2
Welcome to Term 2! We are thrilled to have our students back on campus, ready to put in their best efforts and reach new heights. At St Peters, our motto is 'Plus Ultra,' which means ‘Ever Higher’; we are dedicated to striving for personal bests in all aspects of College life, particularly in academic learning. Our students are reminded of this commitment and encouraged to aim for excellence every day.
This commitment is also modelled day in, day out, by our dedicated staff, who undertake professional learning to ensure teaching and learning at the College is optimal. Recently, our Primary Years staff undertook professional development from world-renowned educator, Kath Murdoch, surrounding best practices in teaching and learning, in particular the inquiry learning cycle. We know that this opportunity will foster extremely rich learning opportunities in our Primary classrooms.
The College is also undertaking The Learner First Pilot program. This exclusive opportunity, provided through Lutheran Education Queensland, is powered by the work of noteworthy educators, Joanne McEachen and Michael Fullan. St Peters Springfield is undertaking this journey over a 6 month period with a group of staff across Primary and Secondary Years so that we can continue to strengthen a culture where all learners feel purposeful and have a sense of belonging, and where they learn to contribute to others’ lives and to the world in their own unique ways.
Term 2 is known for its hustle and bustle, as it is packed with various events and activities throughout the weeks. With public holidays sprinkled throughout, Term 2 can often feel even busier. Therefore, it is crucial for our students to dive right back into their studies and routines; a disciplined focus on learning and co-curricular activities will reap rewards into the future.
Across Primary and Secondary Assemblies, we will continue to discuss the St Peters Culture with our students. We will encourage our students to: prioritise learning, strive for personal bests, maintain high expectations for themselves in learning, attitude, behaviour, and uniform, treat each other with care, dignity, and respect, and use their gifts, talents, and learning to make a difference at St Peters and in the community. We will remind our students that seeking personal excellence requires goal-setting, hard work, and persistence, and when faced with challenges, it's essential that they seek help from staff and parents. We ask that you continue to talk to your children about these aspects at home; we truly appreciate that you are working in close partnership with the College.
During Term 1, we had the honour of witnessing our students' personal growth in their learning, cultural and sporting activities, and leadership. We value and reward their personal bests, such as their Personal Best Grade Point Average, Principal's Awards, and co-curricular accolades. We take pride in celebrating our students' progress. We look forward to future celebrations of success.
The College is eager to maintain and strengthen collaborative partnerships with you as parents and caregivers through the term and year, to foster your child’s optimal development through cutting-edge educational approaches, a supportive and nurturing atmosphere for wellbeing, and a diverse range of co-curricular experiences that enrich their overall growth.
As we start Term 2, we urge all St Peters students to embrace the possibilities and opportunities that our College provides and strive towards personal excellence. Let us all aspire to reach new heights in our pursuit of personal bests.
Anzac Day
On Monday, St Peters Springfield will pause and commemorate the 109th anniversary of Anzac Day. Over time, Anzac Day has become a significant day for Australians and New Zealanders to acknowledge and appreciate the former and current members of our defence forces. These brave men and women have served our country with courage and bravery. Our Year 6 students and College Captains will also attend a special Dawn ceremony at Robelle Domain in Springfield early on 25 April. We encourage you to take time to reflect on and give thanks for our service men and women’s sacrifices and to remember that our country enjoys freedom because of their courage. Lest We Forget.
