Welcome Back
It is always exciting to have our students return after holidays and the first day back this term was no exception. A special welcome back to our Year 9 students following their five-week Ironbark experience at the end of Term 1. This experience is one of the defining experiences of a St Peters education and ties generations of St Peters students together.
We also welcome Dr Dimeng Pang to St Peters for the remainder of the year while Mrs Caitlin Knight is on maternity leave. Dr Pang completed her Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours majoring in Biochemistry. She subsequently completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Medicine) and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education. Dr Pang comes to us as an experienced teacher of Mathematics and Sciences with specialisation in Biology and Chemistry. We are delighted to have Dr Pang on the St Peters team.
Monday 15 April saw the commencement of the Stage 3A building project which will include six general classrooms, an iSTEAM (innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) laboratory, project based learning room with small group break out rooms and spaces, staff offices, locker facilities, kitchenette, gallery and large flexible learning area. A substantive amount of rock has now been excavated. Completion is scheduled for the beginning of Term 2 next year though delays are often unavoidable in the construction process. We are grateful to be in the next phase of growth and development.

On a completely different note, we do not have to look too far in our world to see and know how difficult and tragic life can be and how broken our world is. It reminds us of the vital importance of our tasks as parents and educators to be raising and forming young people, with good hearts and character who can be salt and light in the world. Such formation goes far beyond the results we see on a report card and beyond the boundaries of the school. This is not to diminish the importance of achieving to our academic potential, it is not an either/or situation, but both/and. We are here to assist our students achieve their academic potential and to pursue their dreams and aspirations AND we are here to help grow them into extraordinary young people who are optimistic, empowered and inspired to use what they have been given to make a positive difference in their world. Foundational to this are the two expectations we have of all St Peters Lutheran College staff and students: to live by our motto Plus Ultra and to treat everyone with Care, Dignity and Respect.
Welcome back and may God bless the endeavours of our staff, students and families in the term ahead. We have much to be thankful for and much to look forward to.
