As the academic year unfolds with remarkable speed and our community continues to grow, it is important to reflect on the core values that underpin our St Peters community: Care, Dignity, and Respect. These values form the bedrock upon which St Peters Lutheran College Springfield thrives, creating an environment where students flourish and every individual is valued.
Care: A Cornerstone of Our Community
At St Peters, care encompasses the emotional, intellectual and social aspects of every individual's journey. We strive to foster a culture of belonging where students feel safe and supported and our staff can focus on growing professionally, enabling each individual to explore their full potential.
Dignity: Empowering Individuality
The inherent dignity of every person is a fundamental principle we hold dear at St Peters. Recognising and honouring the strengths, talents and perspectives of each individual, we aim to empower our students to embrace their identity and make meaningful contributions to both our college community and the wider community. Our commitment to upholding the dignity of all members of our community creates a foundation for personal growth, empathy and understanding.
Respect: Building Bridges of Understanding
Respect is the cornerstone of meaningful relationships and a key element in creating a harmonious community. Respect is the power to understand and celebrate differences and is a key in creating a sense of belonging where everyone feels valued and supported. Maxims such as treating others as you wish to be treated, listening to other people’s views and respecting their choices, making decisions for yourself and respecting boundaries, giving people the benefit of the doubt and thinking before you respond are important mental models for our students to be aware of as they develop their self-identity and place in the world around them.
Ongoing positive regard is fundamental to our respectful relationships. We encourage open dialogue, active listening and a genuine appreciation for diverse perspectives. By promoting respect, we create an environment where students can engage in thoughtful discussions, challenge ideas and learn from one another. We utilise Restorative Practice to strengthen relationships. Our goal is to equip our students with the skills to navigate an increasingly interconnected world with empathy, compassion and an unwavering respect for others.
Living Our Values: Stories of Inspiration
Within our community, countless examples exemplify the values of Care, Dignity and Respect. From students showing compassion and support for their peers to our staff members going above and beyond to ensure every student feels heard and valued, these stories of inspiration fill us with immense pride.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the students, staff and parents who embody these values daily. Your dedication and commitment contribute to the warm and inclusive environment that makes St Peters Lutheran College Springfield a remarkable place to learn and grow.
As we continue our journey together, let us remember that care, dignity and respect are not merely words on a page but guiding principles that shape our community. Let's continue to foster an environment where everyone feels valued, supported and empowered to reach their fullest potential.

Ministry
Arise Lutheran Community Church
Arise is a Lutheran community that meets at St Peters, Springfield. It’s a place where you can come to know God’s love through Jesus, and find light and hope for your life, and connect with other families from St Peters and the wider community.
In our service you will hear God’s word, sing, pray and share in Holy Communion if you want to. There’s a message for the kids too.
Resilience is important for a child’s mental health. It is their ability to bounce back from failure, challenges, adversity and stress. It’s not something that kids have or don’t have but a skill that kids develop over time as they grow. Building resilience not only helps a child deal with current difficulties, but it also helps develop a resilient mindset that will help them deal with challenges later in life. All children are capable of working through challenges and coping with stress, but they require guidance and support from a charismatic adult role model.

Thriving Thursday – Service Learning
Thriving Thursday is a great chance for students in Upper Primary to follow their passion or try something new. Some students have chosen to undertake a service-learning opportunity by knitting beanies (on a loom) for the homeless and disadvantaged. These will be donated to charity. Working with Cass from Sewing for Charity Australia, students inquired into what it means to be homeless or disadvantaged and discovered the real need within our wider community. They also realised that the only reward for their time and effort is an internal sense of satisfaction for a job well done. Students have fully embraced this opportunity, regularly spending their lunchtimes knitting in addition to their Thursday afternoons.
“Makes me feel happy inside knowing I’m helping someone in need” – Drishti
“I feel calm when I knit” – Danica
“We do this and not expect anything back” – Olivia
“It feels good to help others and we get to hang out with our friends along the way” – Grace
“It is fun to knit, and we help others at the same time” – Chuveditha
“We are volunteering to make a difference to change as much of the world as we can” - Ruby
Should you (or grandma or grandad or aunty or uncle) wish to contribute to this service-learning opportunity by donating wool, or making scarfs and beanies at home, please email k.stolz@stpeters.qld.edu.au. All donations will be presented to Cass at the end of the term.

The Arts
Arts Showcase Semester 1
It was my absolute pleasure to attend and be involved with The Arts Showcase on Tuesday. The night was a mixture of musical ensembles, drama, dance and solo acts. It was very clear that the students have worked diligently throughout the semester to bring their performances to life with passion and dedication.
The night was led by our Arts Captain Benefsheh G who did an amazing job presenting the numbers.
Our instrumental ensembles Allegro Strings, Cantabile Strings and Platinum Band brought us a variety of pieces highlighting their musicality and dedication to their instruments.
Con Brio Choir performed contrasting pieces with an air of quiet confidence and calm.
The solo acts for the night were Jano K, Bernie D, Cooper L, Jane K, Alexa P and Aaroosha J with an assortment of upbeat and sombre pieces presented with grace and wisdom beyond their years.
The Drama Club presented a funny and entertaining excerpt from ‘Spontaneous Human Combustion’ which had the audience in stitches. The night ended on a high note with the high energy number from the Performance Dance Troupe.
All students, teachers and all those involved should be very proud of their efforts on the night with all involved showcasing the College’s immense talents and versatility.
A special thank you to our parents for working in the background supporting our students. Well done everyone.

QGSSSA CROSS COUNTRY
Last Saturday 90 Cross Country girls ventured down the freeway to John Paul College to compete in the QGSSSA Cross Country Championships. We could not have been prouder of each one of our girls who trained hard and gave their absolute best on Saturday. We came away in equal third position, which was a great improvement from 2022. A big thank you to our Coordinator and Head Coach Mrs Kerry Schreiber, an Old Scholar (1984) who represented St Peters herself, she brought so much passion and inspiration to the girls it was great to see. Thanks also to the amazing team of coaches for their work in preparing the girls for the big race.

AUTUMN FIXTURE SPORTS – BASKETBALL, FOOTBALL & TOUCH
Round 9 – Reconciliation Round
This Friday is Round 9, the final round of the 2023 Autumn Fixture season and what a season it has been for our Basketball, Touch and Football girls. Next week I will provide a full summary of the seasons for each sport.
Round 9 coincides with National Reconciliation Week where for the first time, our Open Basketball, Football & Touch teams will wear the St Peters Girls Sport Reconciliation uniform. The artwork on the uniforms has been designed by Tully Button, an Old Scholar (2021) and current Girls Rowing Coach.
Senior students Sophie B, Gabby S & Chuva M are pictured wearing these uniforms and below is Tully’s description of the meaning of the artwork.
“The circle motifs used in the design show the individual QGSSSA schools. The lines between represent them coming together and connecting through their shared love of sport. Inside the circle motifs are clusters of dots which show the individual team members being supported and showcased by their schools.”
We are honoured to be a part of National Reconciliation Week and our girls will represent St Peters and wear these uniforms with pride.
We will do our part to share histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Pre-season training sessions for all our Winter fixture sports have commenced. Numbers are amazing in Netball, Volleyball and Tennis, Hockey is looking for a few extra sign ons so they can make three teams, please contact Mr Glass for further details.
All pre-season training schedules can be found on the St Peters App.
It continues to be fantastic to see all the girls on the water both in the mornings and afternoons, as well as in the gym. As we approach the middle of the term, can I please remind families that consistency of attendance both on the water and in the gym is crucial in preparation for the upcoming rowing camp and the regattas next term. More information is coming later this week by email so stay tuned. The more time the girls can spend on the water as crews and individuals in single sculls, the better and more prepared they are going to become for the regattas, and the more fun they have in the long run!
BSRA Indoor Rowing Championships
Last Tuesday, our Girls' shed competed at the 2023 BSRA Indoor Rowing Championships hosted by Somerville House. It was a loud and raucous night that challenges the best of us. I am proud that all our teams gave their best and we had several girls achieve PBs. I would like to congratulate our Year 9 Relay Team of Stephanie P, Summer P, Mia M, Yoyo W and Lily R who placed 2nd in their event.
Ergometer and Sculling Trials
Trials, within the context of the Rowing program, are undertaken based on three factors: ergometer times, sculling times and attendance/attitude to training. These trials are completed at the BSRA regattas, which are held on a Saturday in Term 3, each age group are divided into divisions (i.e. Year 8, Division 1, 2, 3 etc). The goal of these trials is to place each girl into appropriate crews that will be competitive within these divisions at regattas.
Selection trial:
Round 1 – completed in Week 3
Round 2 – completed in Week 6
Round 3 – completed in Week 9 and the first day at Rowing Camp
If girls are absent and do not complete these trials, it makes it impossible to correctly place girls into appropriate crews. As always, if there are unforeseen circumstances, these will be taken into account and alternate opportunities provided to the maximum extent possible.
Girls Rowing Camp
The Rowing Camp is an integral event for the girls in a number of ways. Firstly, as a shed and community building event, the time spent away at these camps is a highlight as it is a fantastic team bonding time where girls are able to spend time and develop lifelong friendships, not only within their year level but from all year levels. Secondly, as an important fitness and technical foundation for the crews which leads into the BSRA regattas which start a few weeks after.
Camp this year is 17 June - 23 June in Bundaberg. More information and sign on forms will be out next week.
All transport, accommodation and food will be organised for the girls with forms and costs currently being finalised. Could I please ask families to put these dates in the diary for the girls to attend.
Please CLICK HERE for the Term 2 Athletic Performance & Development Training Schedule.
The schedule can also be found on the St Peters App.
If you would like further information on this wonderful opportunity to improve your fitness, please email Mr Leigh Smith.
