In today's fast-paced and ever-evolving world, adaptability has become a vital skill for success. As parents and educators, we play a crucial role in helping our children navigate change and develop the resilience needed to thrive in dynamic environments. Whether it's transitioning between year levels, coping with unexpected circumstances or facing friendship dynamics face to face and online, our support and guidance can make a significant difference in our children’s ability to adapt.
At St Peters, we foster open communication by creating safe and non-judgmental spaces/classrooms where students can freely express their thoughts and feelings about the changes they are experiencing. Through Restorative Practices we listen actively and validate students’ feelings, acknowledging that change can be both exciting and challenging. We also coach them through challenging experiences and make them aware of what they may learn along the way. Everything is a learning opportunity!
There are expected and unexpected areas of change or new experiences that our students will experience. Attending camp for the first time is a change that we anticipate for which we are intentionally able to provide students with age-appropriate information in advance to support this experience. Many conversations are shared between staff, students and parents prior to attending camps for example so that everyone feels safe and comfortable with the upcoming experience.
Approaching change as a concept by encouraging flexibility and resilience helps our students to understand that change is inevitable and a natural part of life. Supporting students to be able to adjust and pivot in times of change is also essential. Changes in timetables such as a cross country, track and field day or missing some days of school due to illness can be disappointing and therefore upset some students. Encouraging our students to see the benefits, positives, what they may be gaining from that change and to embrace new experiences with an open mind and growth mindset is something we focus on during our Pastoral Care times with our students as well as during Circle time.
As teachers, we are continuing to actively support our students’ ability to adapt to change; we empower them to navigate uncertainties with an open mind and heart. By encouraging open communication, providing information and cultivating a growth mindset, we aim to equip them with the necessary tools to embrace regular change. Through our guidance and coaching as well as that provided by you as parents and caregivers, we can help our students to learn every day and walk alongside them, encouraging their growth and celebrating their ability to adapt to change.

Arise Lutheran Community Church
Arise is a Lutheran community that meets at St Peters, Springfield. It’s a place where you can come to know God’s love through Jesus, and find light and hope for your life, and connect with other families from St Peters and the wider community.
In our service you will hear God’s word, sing, pray and share in Holy Communion if you want to. There’s a message for the kids too.
"Forgiveness holds us together through good and bad times and it allows us to grow in love," Henri Nouwen.
Today in Year 7 Chapel we are looking at an episode in the life of Peter. I love Peter. The way the gospels tell his story suggests that he quite often acted or spoke without thinking things through. His passionate enthusiasm meant that he found himself in all sorts of scrapes. But the focus of his story today is on Matthew’s gospel account of Peter asking Jesus about forgiveness.
Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?”
“No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven!"
What do you think about forgiveness?
Academic and author Kate Bowler reminds me in her blessing titled, 'A blessing when you need love to conquer hate', that we all do something with the hurts and offences that come to us. Some of us find, as Kate says, "it escapes our lips as invective, others of us find it gets buried and stored up as bitterness."
Sometimes we find it easy to forgive, other times it feels like we might never be able to let it go.
I am very much aware that members of my own family deal differently with hurt. Some explode, whilst one member of my family has a memory like an elephant and is likely in a raw moment to bring up something you said or did three years ago.
I think Jesus knew that forgiveness had to be a daily practice, a way of encountering one another because sometimes it’s really hard work. Often it’s a process that happens over time, not an action that’s done and dusted in a moment.
I really resonate with something Dr Brené Brown says about conflict in relationships. Even when we feel someone else has done the wrong thing, Brené says we should always ask the question, “what’s my part in this?”.
The more time we spend with people, the more we become aware that an orientation towards forgiveness as well as owning our own capacity for contributing to conflict is essential. Some of our Year 7 students might encounter this reality on camp next week!
Returning to Henri Nouwen’s words, "Forgiveness holds us together through good and bad times and it allows us to grow in love."
We began with Peter asking how many times he had to forgive. And whilst Jesus basically says we just have to keep on forgiving, I’m reassured that primarily Jesus wanted people to know that we’re all forgiven, that God’s love is big enough to hold all the hurt, pain and anger, it’s big enough to hold us when we’ve been wronged and when we have wronged.
God, please help us to learn forgiveness. Remind us that you journey with us as we learn to live well together and to love one another.

Celebrating Language and Creativity: Spotlight on Our Junior High French Program
Bonjour tout le monde! We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on our Junior High French Program, where our students have been showcasing their language skills, creativity and understanding of French culture in incredibly innovative ways.
Year 7 students delved into the world of animals, an initiative inspired by the SPA (Société Protectrice des Animaux), the oldest animal welfare charity in France. The students created captivating posters of real animals who call SPA their temporary home, exploring their characteristics, habitats and care needs. They did not stop at the French context; the project extended to discussing pet adoption and ownership practices in Australia, highlighting the differences and similarities between our cultures. Their comprehensive projects sparked meaningful conversations around pet responsibility and welfare.
In Year 8, the focus shifted to location and directions. Students navigated their way around French cities, landmarks and monuments, learning how to give and understand directions in French. This fun and interactive module challenged them to apply their newly acquired language skills in a real-world context, truly bringing the language to life.
The Year 9 group embarked on a journey to explore weather conditions across France, expanding their vocabulary around weather, clothing and activities. They engaged in dynamic discussions, proposing the appropriate attire and activities for different weather conditions, demonstrating an impressive grasp of the French language while learning about the culture's practical aspects and role played shopping in France.
The crowning event for the Year 10 group has undoubtedly been the virtual excursion to Geneva, Switzerland. Our ambitious students donned the hat of travel bloggers for this project. They created captivating travel blogs and websites, complete with rich descriptions, recommendations and beautiful photos. The students took the project a notch higher by creatively using Photoshop to place themselves in various iconic locations in Geneva. We invite everyone to visit these fantastic blogs and websites to get a glimpse of Geneva through our students' eyes.
As we continue this journey of linguistic exploration, let's not forget about the excitement in store for the first week of Term 3 — our French Week! An exciting line-up of activities awaits:
Every day – French themed photo booth to remember this fun week with your friends, as well as different French foods featured at the Hearts Café!
Tuesday: Roll a Picasso Art Activity in the JH Foyer. Unleash your inner Picasso!
Wednesday: Petanque on the Oval. Experience a traditional French game.
Thursday: 'Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir' viewing in the JH Foyer. A taste of popular French animated series. (PG rated)
Friday: French Music/Dance in the JH Foyer. Let's end the week on a high note!
Also, in the Primary Years Mme Cutcliffe has organised for a French puppet show for our Upper Primary French students in Term 3!
In the Junior High French Program, we believe in creating immersive, experiential learning journeys that make the language more than just words and grammar. We aim to present students with a rich tapestry of culture, communication and creativity. As the students progress through the program, they not only become more fluent in French but also develop a broader understanding of the world around them. We look forward to sharing more of our student's accomplishments in the future. Merci et à bientôt!

AFLQ SCHOOLS CUP
Well done to our Years 7 - 9 Australian Rules team that travelled to Everton Park FC last Friday to play in the qualifying round for the Junior Girls AFLQ Schools Cup competition. The girls performed exceptionally well defeating Stuartholme and Kedron State High School in dominant performances.
We now progress to the Regional Finals which are scheduled for Thursday 27 July.
Thank you to Peter Hicks, Coaches Chris Cant and Dean Johnson for giving the girls this opportunity, this is the first time St Peters has participated in this competition, let’s go Saints!
Vicki Wilson Preliminary Tournament
Congratulations to our Senior and Junior Teams who have qualified for the Vicki Wilson Netball State Championships which will be played in Term 3.
On Tuesday both teams headed to WDNA to participate in the Met West region preliminary tournament to progress to the State Championships. The tournament consists of six rounds of pool games, each game consists of two, eight minute halves with a 20 minute break in between games. At the end of the pool games the top two teams from each pool cross over and the two winners progress to the State Championships.
Our Junior Team was undefeated in all games with five being the closest margin against St Aidan’s. With limited preparation Coach Tracey was impressed with the team’s connection and the flexibility within the team, the girls went on to defeat St Peter Claver 18 - 7 in the playoff game.
Our Senior Team also went through undefeated, finishing top of their pool but were challenged with some very close games. In the final pool round, we took on St Aidan’s, where the game was goal for goal with St Peters winning by one in the dying seconds. This win saw us crossover and take on Ipswich Girls Grammar School, another tough goal for goal game with the siren sounding at the right time for St Peters to win by a single point!
At the end of the day, we had some tired and sore girls. We were super proud of their efforts, the team culture and comradery was special to be a part of and they certainly represented St Peters with pride.
Thank you to our amazing coaches Tracey and Patti, our program continues to grow under their guidance. Thank you also to Larika for your support and it was great to see old scholars and now coaches Emily, Milly & Renee supporting the girls.
A big thank you to Alex Ever (Charlotta’s Mum) who on behalf of the Netball PSG supplied fruit and snacks for the girls throughout the day. Thanks also to the parents for helping with set up and pack down and scoring.

Our Hockey girls will play next Monday 12 June, 4:00pm at UQ.
While it has been cold over the past couple of days it has been fantastic to have girls on the water consistently. The improvements have been significant because of this consistency and I would like to encourage families to please keep up the on water attendance as we move into camp. Can I please remind families to notify me of any absences, no communication significantly affects the ability of coaches to put full crews on the water, as plans cannot be made.
A few updates as we head into the final weeks of the term and camp.
Round 3 Ergometer Trials – Wednesday 14/Thursday 15 June (afternoon)
Next Wednesday and Thursday afternoon sees the third round of ergometer selections for the program. Coaches will confirm with their year levels which afternoon they will do their trials.

2023 BSRA Rowing Camp - Bundaberg
Thank you to those families that have already returned the camp forms. I am still waiting on the payment link from finance and will forward this as soon as it is available. As advised previously, camp is critical to kick start the racing season for the girls as well as to make some lifelong friends while they are away. Indemnity forms are required to be returned by Friday 9 June, in preparation for this camp.
Parents are welcome to contact me directly if there are any concerns regarding attendance at this camp.
Mini Camp – Saturday 8 July & Monday 10 July
There will be a daily mini-camp that will operate in the mornings 6:00am - 10:00am on Saturday 9 and Monday 11 July (not Sunday 10 July). This camp is not compulsory, though I highly encourage girls to take part. More details and a sign-on form for this camp will be provided closer to the date.
BSRA Regatta 3 – St Peters Hosting Saturday 5 August
The 2023 BSRA Regatta 3 is on Saturday 5 August and is being hosted by the St Peters Rowing Parent Support Group.
Hosting this event is a large undertaking where the St Peters Rowing program organises and takes all profits from the catering of this event. It is anticipated that approximately 2500+ people attend this regatta. The hosting of this event is a large logistical undertaking and at the Parent Support group meeting earlier this week, planning and coordination discussions were held to ensure we take full advantage of this fund-raising opportunity. Could I please request all families make themselves available to assist on this day.
Today we were excited to announce our Rhythmic Gymnastics Captains for 2023, Charlie R (IND) and Zoe C (SFD). Both girls have contributed enormously to the sport throughout the years and on behalf of Mrs Champion, the Rhythmic Gymnastics teams and coaches, I’d like to congratulate them on their newly appointed roles.
It’s been another week of fine tuning, focusing and executing choreography and collaborations.
Each routine is slowly coming together and I thank everyone for their enormous effort at training. Well done girls!
Next week is our last Rhythmic Gymnastics training session before the school holidays. Year 7 will be away enjoying their time on camp, have fun girls and don’t forget to practise when you can!
