As we approach the end of Semester 1, I wanted to thank you for the amazing first six months of 2024.
We have had countless events, showcases, discos, camps, assemblies, focus days, stalls and many more College-wide activities including Ironbark for our Year 9 cohort, something that I consider an experience more than a camp. On top of this, we have also had a wide variety of cocurricular opportunities including Sports, Performing Arts, Debating, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and more. Somewhere amongst this busyness and breadth of opportunity, we have also set about providing exceptional teaching and learning for our young people.
All the amazing things we achieve as a community wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our staff members. I want to take this opportunity to say a sincere thank you to our teachers, administration, corporate staff, tutors and leadership teams. I also want to thank our young people and their families. Your commitment to growth and this special community allows us to thrive. Together, we continue to live out our mission of “Excellence in Christian Co-education” with care, dignity and respect.
I very much look forward to Semester 2 and all the activities and events that will continue to take place in our community.
EXCITING NEWS – CURNOW HOUSE REFURBISHMENT
I am pleased to announce that the Junior High Precinct – Stage 3B Project is nearing completion. We have begun accessing the learning spaces and will use these classrooms as part of the timetable for Junior High and Senior School students from the beginning of Semester 2. This new, modern facility provides five classrooms and break-out spaces, a Learning Commons/Amphitheatre, an outdoor learning space, change rooms and more locker access.
I am also excited to announce that our next stage of building works and renovations will begin on 18 June 2024, with the renovation of the Curnow House corporate spaces and Student Reception. With only small updates since 2012, the corporate spaces and Student Services now need to expand to accommodate our larger community and number of students. These works will ensure that we continue to provide care and exceptional service experiences for our families and students every day and are expected to conclude by the end of August.
To allow this renovation to occur, there will be some changes to the locations of key services, which may cause some disruption. Please see these changes noted below, further details will be provided in a letter to all families shortly:
Student Reception will be moving to the Principal’s Office, which is accessible via the rear of Curnow House. Please note that disability access will still be available via Main Reception (there has been no change in the location of the Main Reception area).
Mrs Sabri, Mr Piacun and Mr Brown will all be relocating to the Junior High Precinct for the duration of the build.
The majority of our Administration and corporate staff will be relocating to the Junior High Modular buildings.
Thank you for your patience during these works.
I want to wish our community well for the upcoming break. I pray that it is restful and prepares us all well for Semester 2.
Thank you and God’s richest blessings.
Craig Brown Head of St Peters Springfield

Year 3 - Beenleigh Historical Village Excursion
Year 3 students go back in time
On Tuesday 28 May, Year 3 students travelled back in time in an exciting educational experience at the Beenleigh Historical Village and Museum. The excursion allowed students to be involved in the rich history of the past through presentations, hands-on experiences and the exploration of historical buildings and artefacts.
The day started with an interactive session, where students sampled school life in the past. They discovered that sitting up straight with hands behind their backs was the norm, and learning was done on a slate, not on paper. They also witnessed the fascinating printing process, from setting the type to pressing the ink onto paper. The day's highlight was the hands-on experience of washing clothes, where students took turns using a traditional copper, washing board and mangle to better understand the labour involved in this everyday task of the past.
After lunch, students ventured into a world of historical buildings and the artefacts they held inside. They explored an original jail, a quaint old-fashioned general store and a rustic dairy. The stark contrast between our modern equipment, technologies, the tools and machinery used by early settlers was very interesting.
The trip to the Beenleigh Historical Village and Museum was not only educational but also a fun-filled day that brought history to life for Year 3. It sparked curiosity and appreciation for our Australian heritage, making it a memorable experience.

IGNITE
During the final week of Term 3, the entire Year 10 cohort have been given the chance to participate in the Future Anything IGNITE program. Future Anything transforms young people's passion and curiosity into innovative ideas that improve the world. Their programs empower youth by using entrepreneurship to provide knowledge, skills, support and partnerships for developing creative solutions to real-world problems.
The IGNITE program is an energetic five-day workshop where students will culminate their efforts by pitching their innovative, scalable and sustainable business solutions to a panel of external judges during a showcase event.
Our week started with a visit from Zachary Fook – a social entrepreneur who has dedicated his life’s work driving community-led outcomes in health, education and employment. Students were provided with the opportunity to ask questions which has provided valuable insights and inspiration.
Students have taken the time to reflect on their passions and experiences to form teams focused on tackling common issues. Using design thinking and cutting-edge entrepreneurial tools, they are ideating, prototyping and creating business models for their solutions.
We are incredibly excited to see the innovative solutions and business ideas our students will develop. The future looks bright with such talented young minds ready to make a positive impact on the world.
