The return of Events and Activities at St Peters Springfield
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. – Thomas A. Edison
We have been grateful that over the past few months we could reintroduce some of the events/activities that we have all enjoyed each school calendar year. It has involved changes, tweaking and many meetings to ensure we could hold the events following the current guidelines. Persistence pays off!
Many parents have shared that they are very excited to be back and part of the community. We are extremely grateful to our families for adhering to the one family member attendance requests as well as signing in using the Queensland App. This helps us to have confidence in holding events to keep the community safe.
Our Lower Primary Cross-Country event was a huge success with students cheered on from the running track by a large crowd of family members. Small groups of parents made their way to the finish line to cheer their child on and reconnections were made between families. Our Athletics day will be held in 16 July for Upper Primary students and mid-September for Lower Primary. We look forward to our parent community joining us again on those days.
Another event that is a highlight for families is the Year 2 Fairy Tale Plays that were presented last week in the Hub. Our Year 2 classes had spent many lessons preparing their plays and on the day, used their individual skills to perform their part in front of their family member audience. We were fortunate to have a school community member video each of the plays so parents who could not attend were able to view the outstanding plays.
Some events have been able to take the same format, but others have had to be revised to ensure they can occur following recommendations.
Recently, there were four Private Tuition sessions instead of our usual three sessions, where our large number of tuition students shared their new learnt skills to family members. The groups were divided to allow family members to attend. For many parents, they see and hear their child practising at home, but the concerts provide the important performance opportunity.
Our Prep Bible presentation event was held on Tuesday in our Hub with parents in attendance. This was instead of our usual Community Celebration services that have not restarted on Friday nights. We did not want to delay the presentation by Arise Lutheran Church presenting the Bibles to ensure our Preps can enjoy reading God’s Word with their families.
A very big thank you to our P&F committee for organising the Movie Night recently where parents joined together to chat first before enjoying a movie. Our P&F is looking for new ways to connect parents in our school community so we look forward to more events during the year.
Kindergarten News
Last week we welcomed our new Kindergarten Service leader who will be in charge of our two-unit centre. Ms Dali Jovanovic is an experienced educator with a passion for supporting young children and their families. She has a special interest in the transition from Kindergarten to Prep which is such an important step in a child’s education journey.
As part of my role, I meet with the Kindergarten Service Leader on a regular basis to create connections between the Kindy and School. We were delighted the Kindy students joined with us at the Cross Country event recently. There will be other special events the Kindergarten will join us for over the year.
French Week
In Week 1 Term 3 our students will be celebrating French Week. More information will be sent out later this week about a French themed dress up day, French food to order in the café and activities over the week.
I wish all our families a safe and happy holiday time enjoying the break from school routine.
Warm regards
Debbie West-McInnes
