Welcome back
Welcome back one and all to Semester Two and a very special welcome to the new families who have joined our community this term. We also welcome our visitors from Lycée St Vincent, Senlis, France who are with us on exchange for the next few weeks. I take the opportunity to commend the host families for their hospitality and commitment to this mutually rich experience.
Over the holidays our Junior High building project leapt forward with the pouring of the upper ground level slab which is itself now being built upon. I have attached a few photos from early this week. It is great to see this facility taking shape.
In addition, the laying of the turf on the Springfield Central Sports Complex oval immediately across from St Peters has been completed. The final, lowest oval is now being prepared for turf. Mr Lohe and I recently met with Ipswich City Council, again affirming opportunity to use these facilities for inter and intra-school sport in consultation with occupying clubs and the ICC. Several cricket nets are included immediately across from St Peters and the two lowest ovals will have turf wicket blocks. It is expected and hoped that some of these facilities will be open for Term 4, though the two lowest ovals will likely need further time for the surface to consolidate before use.
Thank you to the parents who responded to the brief survey at the end of last term. The leadership team has been engaged with your responses since they started coming in. Over 80% of respondents rated their St Peters experience at an 8, 9 or 10 with 10 being outstanding. That which is collectively most valued is the strong sense of community, the quality of staff, the values and inclusivity, the atmosphere, environment and level of care.
Points of delight were highly individualised including everything from Mother’s Day in Prep, to children who come home happy every day, to Ironbark, Year 10 Dinner, parent teacher interviews, quick response to concerns, sporting representation, the new building, and the care and leadership of older students. Points of frustration also were highly varied but included the multiplicity of communication channels, travel associated with sport and the challenge of the carpark at peak times. I was very pleased with the helpful spirit that you offered your feedback, being both encouraging and constructive.
With commitment to our Plus Ultra motto, we continue to work at enhancing our service provision. Some refinements will be more easily made than others. With the new building underway, for example, our architects are now seeking advice from traffic engineers in relation to improving the effectiveness of our car park but it will take a little time to work through the infrastructure development processes. We appreciate your patience and support. Thank you also to the P&F for their ongoing support in developing our community and providing a valuable forum for dialogue and partnership.
We are thankful to God for the richness of his blessing and pray for his continued guidance and wisdom.
