Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. – Helen Keller
St Peters continually focuses on growing an inclusive, caring and connected community that embraces our students, staff, families and Old Scholars – a “Connected Community”. We want to make sure that each of these groups feels engaged in and can contribute to a St Peters Education and College life through meaningful partnerships and respectful relationships.
For our students and staff, connection and belonging come through our mentoring systems across year levels, House competitions, year level activities, collaborative activities in pastoral care lessons, service learning activities, restorative practices, excursions, camps, and through Sport on campus and across the wider College. Recently, our Year 10 students held a Cultural Meal Sharing Morning Tea. It was a privilege to hear about and taste the recipes our students had cooked up, dishes from across the world. It was amazing to see our students connecting around the rich cultural diversity that is present at our great College. One of our relief teachers brought dishes along from her home country too. That truly speaks to the connected culture here at St Peters Springfield!
For our families, it is a true pleasure to see so many parents invested in their children’s education at Parent/Teacher Conferences and Information sessions, at the P&F Primary Years Disco and other P&F events, at our Book Week Parade, at our Father’s Day Breakfast and Chapel recently and at Private Tuition recitals and other exhibitions. We encourage you to keep connecting through talking to our friendly staff about your child’s education, by volunteering and by coming along to events.
Our second graduating class of St Peters Springfield, the Class of 2013, is currently organising its reunion for October. The Class of 2013 was comprised of 13 students – it was a tiny year level that occurred as a result of the introduction of Prep. The College looks forward to catching up with our Old Scholars and to seeing how we can further connect them with our current community. It has been a pleasure to welcome some Old Scholars who attended the Indooroopilly campus, onto our staff this past year. Miss Saffery and Chaplain Ben now proudly wear their golden lanyards, a symbol of their continued St Peters journey. We are thankful for the contributions they make to our community each day. Who else can you spot on campus wearing a golden lanyard? There are a few Old Scholars now!
Of course, St Peters Springfield also connects with its wider community. Our students have been actively involved this past week in the Greater Springfield Learning Coalition’s 2023 Festival of Learning. Several of our students sang and were featured in the video clip, “New Life,” which was played at the Official Opening of the Festival on Friday 1 September. Furthermore, our students have had the benefit of attending various activities together with students from other Springfield schools this week; these have included: a Hip Hop Dancing workshop, Circus workshop by CIRCA, Minecraft Challenges, Indigenous Cultural Workshops at Hymba Yumba, Brisbane Lions Experience at the stadium, Cricket Queensland Experience, Mater Hospital Experience, Rising Stars: A Musical Showcase and a live reading of “Little Ash” by Ash Barty herself. Our school has provided Origami and eSports workshops and many friends from local schools have joined us onsite to gain some skills and connect with each other.
We are proud that 5 out of the 11 students across Primary and Secondary Years shortlisted for the Maha Sinnathamby Ideas and Imagination Award are St Peters Springfield students. I had the great pleasure of watching our students pitch their ideas to create the Springfield of the future around the key pillars of Sustainability, Health and Wellbeing, Smart Economy and Innovation. Well done to: Venba R (Year 1), Aditi B (Year 1), Aroosha J (Year 4), Avyukt C (Year 5) and Tejas B (Year 7). A special congratulations to Aditi who was the Winner in the Lower Primary category, to Aroosha who was Runner Up in the Upper Primary Category and to Tejas, who was the Runner Up in the Secondary category.
It is important that we keep building connections across our students, staff, families and Old Scholars, and across our Springfield community also. By working together as a “Connected Community”, we can harness the diversity and richness of our knowledge, skills and backgrounds and together we can do so much.

The Journey Together
Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good…Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are…Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:9-21, selected verse)Read Romans 12:9-21 on biblegateway.com
When I work with students as they travel on their faith journey, I tend to invite them to respond to the prompt: “This I Believe”. I stress to them that they are not affirming that they understand and own everything about their faith for now and forever. Indeed, we often find that people who think they have all the answers can be kind of scary and somewhat stubborn in their knowingness. Rather, when we see and understand faith as a lifelong journey we learn and grow and discover that there is so much more to life, much more to our actions and how we live in community.
This is the perspective in which I hear Paul’s words to the Romans. They are a description and an invitation to Christian community. This is who we strive to be as a community based on Lutheran teachings. Living in a community is not always easy, and it certainly helps when we can follow St Paul’s words of advice. But of course, being human, things will go wrong and harmony can be lost. This is where it helps to realise that we are on a journey of restoration as well. This is a journey where we can weep with those who weep as we carry them in their grief. This is a journey where we can discover how to overcome evil that is done with the support of a God who is good.

Arise is a Lutheran community that meets at St Peters, Springfield. It’s a place where you can come to know God’s love through Jesus, and find light and hope for your life, and connect with other families from St Peters and the wider community.

In terms of delivery, once a week, orders will be collated and sent to Springfield reception where they can be collected by parents.
On Wednesday Week 8, four Year 6 students attended Parliament House as guests of Charis Mullen MP for the Leaders Tour and Lunch. The Year 6 students who attended were, Mihika R, Ethan N, Ruby W and Gritik B. Our students were given a tour of the Chambers of Parliament, including sitting in the Members’ Chairs and asking questions. They were able to explore the Reading Library where Members of Parliament read and discuss legislation. Finally, students got to share lunch with other invited guests on the balcony overlooking ‘Protesters Court’. This is where groups of people can come and peacefully protest matters of interest, and sometimes Members of Parliament will go down and listen to the protesters to gain different perspectives on issues affecting the community.
The Year 6 students would like to thank Ms Mullen MP for her hospitality and the school for giving our students the opportunity to attend such a marvellous event.

Round 8 saw us venture down the freeway to take on the girls from Ipswich Girls' Grammar School, and it was an early start for the teams playing in Round 1.
The 7A team faced a tough challenge as they went up against the undefeated IGGS team. Despite a lot of improvement across the season, the 7A team couldn't cause an upset, highlighting the strength of the IGGS 7A team.
Both the other Year 7 teams, 7B and 7C delivered impressive performances, securing comfortable wins. Their determination and teamwork were evident on the court, marking a successful day for these junior teams.
The 8A team made a strong comeback, getting back into the winners' circle with a solid victory. Their perseverance and skills were on full display, resulting in an exciting win.
Both the 8B and 9B teams, playing their last official games for the season, finishing with great wins. These victories provided a great end to their season and showcased the growth and improvement of these teams throughout the season.
The 9A team, also in their final official game of the season, secured an impressive win. Their season has been a solid one, having lost only one game. This result was a great performance and a fitting end by the 9A team.
The Senior C1 team, fielding a full line-up, cruised to an easy victory. Their teamwork and coordination were evident as they dominated their opponents.
After putting up a good fight, the Senior B team experienced their first loss of the season. It was a tough matchup, but this loss still sees them sitting equal on top of the ladder.
The Senior A team continued their unbeaten streak, showcasing their dominance on the court. Their impressive performance this season continuing from last season sees them on top of the ladder with one game to go.
The Open team faced a challenging match with limited preparation due to illness and absences. Despite a closely fought game, they narrowly went down by three goals.
Back on our home courts, the 10B2 team took on Somerville House and snuck home by one in a very tight game. The Senior C2 team put up a good fight but went down. Coach Ben said after a slow start, the last three quarters were goal for goal.
With one round to go in the QGSSSA Netball 2023 Season, we look forward to welcoming St Hilda’s on Saturday and then celebrating a great season at the breakup next Monday afternoon.
Congratulations to our Round 8 Award Winners - ‘Awarded to the girls who gave the most energy and encouragement!’
