ST PETERS WATER POLO OPEN TEAM PRESENTATION
In a new tradition to Girls Sport in 2021, on Monday night before training commenced, we welcomed Mr Kotzur to present the Open Girls their fabulous personalised bags (hand made by our amazing Coordinator Tracey) & their Open shirts. The presentation which included parents who were able to attend was a celebration of the girls and an opportunity to come together to reflect on the season ahead.
When presenting, Mr Kotzur spoke about the honour of representing St Peters at the highest level and the role models the girls are to our younger students. He also spoke about our St Peters motto, ’Plus Ultra’ and striving for ever higher to always give your best and to inspire others and to leave the sport in a better place.
We thank Mr Kotzur for joining us and inspiring our girls.

VOLLEYBALL SCHOOLS CUP
Last weekend our 10A, 8A & 7A Volleyball teams enjoyed a great weekend of Volleyball down the Gold Coast. With the tournament rescheduled due to the COVID lockdown earlier in the year, and with limited preparation, the teams did amazingly well.
Our 10A team came up against State High in the 7/8 playoffs, after losing to them in the preliminary rounds, the girls put on a polished performance and came away with a 2-0 victory to finish 7th – well done girls, and thank you to Coach Matt, the 10A team have certainly had a great season and we look forward to many of these girls joining our Open team over the next 2 years.
Our 8A girls led by Coach Mike and up and coming Coach Ben, only lost two games for the tournament but with countbacks finished in 7th place. Coach Mike described the girls as fearless, courageous, and gutsy, they battled hard all tournament and played great tactical games, both coaches were super proud of them.
Our 7A team finished in in 6th place doing an amazing job across the 3 days, Coach Shane implemented a new rotation system that the girls learnt in the week prior and fine tuned it over the tournament. This advanced rotation system will only improve the girls for next year’s QGSSSA season. Coach Shane was thrilled with the girl’s performance, noting all five schools that finished above them were Volleyball Schools of Excellence.
A massive thank you to Nat Holman for her work behind the scenes to give the girls this opportunity, it was challenging with the rescheduled dates.
We can’t thank enough our coaches, Matt, Mike, Ben & Shane for the incredible job coaching the girls not only for this tournament but for the QGSSSA season.
Well done to the all the girls and thanks also to the parents for giving the girls this opportunity.

JUNIOR SOFTBALL
Coordinator: Ms Natalie Holman – n.holman@stpeters.qld.edu.au
Yesterday we enjoyed the final day of the Junior Softball competition and our girls did amazingly well, with limited preparation due to the cancellation of trainings from the wet weather. Our six teams lead by Ms Holman and our amazing team of coaches, Vaughan, Mr Bygraves, Nat, Loryn, Tess and Jaymie, the improvement in the girls from Day 1 was so pleasing to see.
Thank you to the girls for their enthusiasm and commitment, thank you to our parents for your support, thank you to all the Junior High teachers for supporting the girls to leave class early and special thanks to Nat Holman for her work coordinating and our team of coaches 😊

Round 3 Water Polo Wrap up
Storms aplenty this week causing chaos to some of our training sessions. I got to many of the matches on the weekend and we still have a few girls who need to work on their fitness to be better at getting up and down the pool. To really have a crack at the game of Water Polo you need to be doing more than attending team trainings. The Monday and Thursday afternoon Swimming sessions for Water Polo Girls, 3.30pm – 4.15pm will compliment your game. Being on top of the water makes for better decision making and a more enjoyable game!
Game day was extra hot and brought the following results:
18B (Open) WON 9 - 4 v Kawana.
A clash with Volleyball Schools Cup saw us playing with only one sub and no goalie. Ida stepped into the goalie role first half keeping Kawana to a nil score. Milly got into the cage for the second half and was awesome directing and communicating to the team. The score was 6-0 at half time. A very relaxed vibe at St Rita’s saw the Open girls dominate all over the pool. Special mention to Captain Zoe for her great 5m and to Captain Milly for winning the Team Award.
17C Lost 18 - 3 v BGGS.
Today we welcomed back a few of our players that have been away. The opposition was very fit and fast, and we struggled defensively getting back to cover their counterattack. Without a specialist goalie it was great to see Grace, Morgan, Gabbie and Sophie all taking a quarter in the cage. Chloe in centre forward position played her usual strong game. Abbey got the team award for her great efforts. Special mention to Zara who ran in from a Swim Meet after swimming several PB’s.
16C WON 11 - 2 v AHS White.
Awesome teamwork saw a very one-sided game. Coach Kyra sets limits on the team. If you scored you couldn’t take another shot making the team swing the ball around and sharing the shot taking roles. Another limit was you could only take a shot off a dry pass. Nothing like learning the game whilst winning!! Olivia walked away with the team award for her great efforts in the pool.
15B Lost 2 - 3 River City.
An absolutely great team performance in a very tight tough game. A big thank you to Mariah, Maddie and Anni for filling in from the 14B team. Eva was awesome in goals and she was strongly supported by all team members in the field. Our mushroom structure was great you could see everybody was playing their role. We had our chances but unfortunately our goal attempts were directed to the opposition goalie. Huge improvement from last week! Georgia M played like a champion, her defensive blocking was outstanding, and she took home the popcorn award.
15C Lost 6 - 7 v Somerville House.
Unlucky not to come away with the win. These girls are certainly coming together and putting in some great performances. Holly was super happy with the communication and great defense. A few unlucky ref calls and a break down on the way to the game all made for a stressful game. Great to see Chloe back and she won a team prize the ‘Turn and Burn’ and Alex who ran in late and shot some great goals took the Popcorn.
14B WON 10 - 1 v UQWPC Barras Black.
TEAMWORK plus from each and every player saw us up by 7 - 0 at the half time break. Quick passing Anni to Gabi saw our first goal of the game and this set the standard for the rest of the match. Willow’s long arms in goals had the cage covered making it very hard for Barras to get a shot off. Anni and Maddie’s defense was outstanding with both gaining lots of steals. Amelia took two cracker lob shots and scored from both. A big thank you to Jane and Pete for coaching our 14’s for game day!
14C WON 10 - 6 v Mermaid Rose.
Just like last week our passing and teamwork was sensational. Big shout out to Georgina A for filling in and to Emma G for playing 3 quarters and jumping out and bolting to Musgrave to play another Mermaids team. Charlotta was awarded the team award for her great blocking and her overall great play. Georgia is a great ball mover delivering great passing into her teammates. Mia’s work rate in both attack and defense was pretty to watch.
13B DREW 7 - 7 v Mermaids Blue.
Down 4 - 7 this team pulled together to stage an amazing come back to level the game. It’s pleasing to see that the extra swimming training that these girls are attending is paying off as it seems they like to give the opposition the lead then chase it down. Mrs Champion and Sophie were super excited with the result. Well done to Sophia for winning the player of the day award.
13C WON 15 - 4 v St Rita’s White.
Great teamwork and improvement especially coming off a bye in Round 2. Two award winners this week Georgia ‘The Turn & Burn Award’ and Deservee won the Popcorn for their awesome efforts. We have several U12B team members playing a 2nd game in this team which we are very grateful for. Every week our newcomers to Water Polo are on the improve, well done Team Nacole!
12B Lost 2 - 10 v Mermaid Blue.
Mermaid’s brought a physical game with lots of heavy contesting. Coach Ellie said team 12’s will have learnt a lot from this match. Charlotte won the Popcorn award for her attacking and defensive game. Even though we lost this game, each and every girl is showing huge improvements. This team is really full of fun and with a little more fine tuning at training from Ellie and Nacole we are excited to see the next few games. Special mention to Eliza and Charlotte for scoring a couple of cracking shots. The spectators from several Schools and Clubs were super impressed by Chloe R’s star performance as goalie.
