“We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
Winston S Churchill
As this is my final article in my current role as the Girls Sport Coordinator, I would like to say a big thank you to the St Peters community for your support over the past four years. There have been many challenges along the way but without a doubt the highlight has been getting the opportunity to work with our amazing cohort of girls. I have reflected on how lucky I have been to work in the field of Sport that has been such a big part of mine and my family’s lives. To the many families I have had the pleasure of getting to know, thank you for your amazing support, I will miss seeing you around at Sport each week.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the many staff I have had the pleasure to work with, our amazing coordinators and coaches, who work so hard behind the scenes. Thank you for providing opportunities for our girls to engage meaningfully in a wide range of sports.
I have received a lot of support and well wishes as this chapter ends for me; I will truly miss some of the special connections I have made with you all. I wish all our St Peters families the very best for a happy and healthy holiday and a joyful Christmas break.
This week is always a sad one as we farewell our Year 12 students. As I have been sorting through photos, many of these girls I have had the pleasure of working with all through their high school journey, there has been lots of special times.
As the girls venture off in various directions, we thank them for everything they have done for the College and for Girls Sport, we have enjoyed watching them grow to the fine young ladies they are today. Good luck for the future and remember to keep embracing the benefits of your Sport beyond school.
Special thanks to our 2023 Girls Sport Captains, Captain Remaya B and Sport Spirit Captains, Annie W and Karina H who I have loved working with this year. The girls have done an incredible job leading the way to continue to improve the culture of our sports which is exciting for the future.
Well done Remaya, Annie and Karina, you have set an example for our future Girls Sport Captains to follow and we thank you and wish you well. I am certainly going to miss our regular meetings!

Thank you to our Coordinators Tracey and Hannah for their tireless work, it is muchly appreciated, and a big well done to our team of awesome coaches.
Good luck girls for Round 5, enjoy your last game before the break.
TEAM OF ROUND 3 – OPEN TEAM
A big thank you to Fiona Hynd for being our article writer this week.
3-0 quarter time ... 4-1 half time ... 6-3 three quarter time ... 9-3 final score
Round 3 saw St Peters Open team play Stuartholme at the Valley Pool. On paper- this was anyone's game! St Peters won first possession with a strong swim off. Gabi and Alice went on to win all four for the team! Attacking speed and good connections put Stuartholme under immediate pressure. It proved too much at the 2min mark with Gabi finding Em at centre forward for a brilliant first goal.
More strong work at centre forward gained St Peters a converted penalty and an early lead of 2-0.
Stuartholme were struggling for possession with strong defensive pressure from the Opens across the whole pool. Eva denied some early attempts at goal with great saves. Charlotte, Brie, Georgia and Amelia worked relentlessly for turned ball. The pressure was finally converted to goal, with Alice scoring for a buffer of 3-0 at quarter time.
Stuartholme battled against formidable goalies in Rose and Eva, who shared the load with two quarters each. There was never an easy way through to the net. Some amazing vision by Zoe found Em open early in the second quarter for goal number four. Stuartholme were kept scoreless by Rose with some brilliant saves! A sneaky push through in the last minute brought the half time score to 4-1.
After a rally by Stuartholme in the third, the game was more even. Strong drives by Lila, Maddy and Amelia assisted our young gun, Laura in keeping our noses in front with two brilliant goals. At three quarter time the Opens led 6-3.
The final quarter was dominated by St Peters with the entire team rallying in both attack and defence to rattle the opposition. Laura, with the support of all her teammates, snuck in two more goals. Charlotte, Georgia, Maddy and Brie worked hard in defence. Finally, Gabi made a brilliant breakaway to score our ninth and final shot.
ROUND 4 WRAP
With Round 4 done and dusted we head to training to prepare for our last game (Round 5) for the first half of the season and well-earned holidays for our girls and families.
Water Polo is a big commitment especially with the late-night trainings. What is great about our game is the 4 x 7 minutes quarters go very quickly.
I would like to thank our Team Managers for everything you do: organising table officials, checking for draw changes, letting me know if we need to find players to fill in each week is a huge task. A big thank you also to our Coaches. They are fabulous sharing their passion for Water Polo with our girls each week.
TEAM OF ROUND 4: U14 – 2 (Division 1)
This team was elevated into the Division 1 this year. They have had a tough start with Emma, Chloe and Georgia all suffering from synchronised injuries. With Chloe being the team goalie, they have had Jessica playing in goals but as she was away this weekend Kara stepped up to wear the red cap stopping many attempts from St Margaret’s girls. Limited substitutes are making the girls play a lot of minutes in the water exhausted but displaying huge heart and fight for every ball. So far, they have had 3 losses and 1 drawn game for the season.
Exciting news finally Round 4 we saw the return of Emma to the pool. Emma hasn’t missed a training and has been desperate to get in and compete. With her plaster off and her game face on she scored a great goal from in front of the cage. Lilly was also in the action scoring a great goal off a fast break. Eliza, Heidi, Kelly, Sicily and Ella were full of energy making their opponent’s work hard to get every ball and pass off. We hope that the school holidays allow injuries to heal so that this great little team comes back to Term 1 at full strength.

The holidays schedule will be released next week but please contact Mr Smith if you have any questions or you are interested in commencing.
