The year comes to an end
But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’ Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
Luke 2:9-11
We have reached the end of another school year and over the last few weeks the traditional end-of-year ceremonies have occurred. Families, friends and invited guests joined the school community at the Secondary Presentation Night and the Primary School Celebration Morning. These occasions provided opportunities to acknowledge the sporting, academic and music accomplishments of our students and to honour those students who serve the College community. While their achievements were celebrated, students were reminded that their successes grew from the gifts given to them by God and they had a responsibility to use their gifts to serve others.
Presentation Night was followed by the Year 12 Valedictory Service, an occasion where joy was tinged with sadness as the inevitable good-byes were said and our Year 12s realised that school had truly finished for them.
Now the holidays are upon us and our attention moves from school to families, fun and friends. Time does not matter; disciplined routines are replaced with unfettered freedom. Healthy eating is ignored; carrot sticks are relegated to the bottom of the fridge overtaken by glazed ham and fruit mince pies.
But among the feasting and the presents and the tinsel, let us pause and reflect upon the great love of a God who sent his Son to be born in a humble stable, his cradle a straw-filled manger.
May you have a joyous and peaceful Christmas and holidays filled with laughter and happiness.
