We are now in week one of our respective AIC Seasons and with this short first week, we have modified the usual training schedules to maximise training session availabilities for our boys. The Volleyball boys are now following the In-Season Training Schedule on the St Peters App. Our Cricketers also had an alternate training schedule for this first week but will settle into the In-Season routine starting on Monday. If you’re involved in sport, whether you’re a supporter or student, please check the St Peters App for information regarding training times and game times. Similar information has also been posted to the App for Swimming as well as Cross Country.
TERM 1 SIGN ON
All Junior High and Senior High Boys have been emailed a link to a google document requiring boys to sign on for the sports they wish to be involved in in Term 1. The sports offered includes; Swimming, Volleyball, Cricket and Cross Country. ALL boys are to complete this form this week to give me an accurate indication of which boys intend on playing which sports in Term 1.
This Friday will see our boys and girls attend one of their first big school swimming commitments for the year. On Friday afternoon, there will be our swimming time trials in the 50m pool for all of our boys and girl who would like to represent St Peters this year in their respective championships (AIC or QGSSSA). Details regarding school trainings, meets and championships can be found on the App in the form of a calendar for the season. Make sure you refer to this calendar regularly throughout this semester if you are an interested swimmer.
It is very important the volleyball team show 100% commitment to training as of now. With our trial against St Edmunds College this weekend, boys should know which team they are in and know where and when their games are on Saturday. Team lists have been emailed, however, we are always looking to get more players involved. If you are interested in volleyball we encourage you to simply attend the B and C training sessions for your age group and coaches can move you into an appropriate team from there. Going forward, please make you all have your numbered playing Jersey ready to go for Saturday’s trial game. If you haven’t purchased one from Shop 45 yet please do so as soon as possible.
Our Volleyball boys performed exceptionally well in 2018 and I am looking forward to seeing similar results in 2019, however, it will take a lot of focused hard work from our boys. Make sure you attend all the respective training sessions and look to improve every time you touch the ball.
As is the case with our Volleyballers, our Cricket boys are also trialling against SEC this Saturday. Again, boys should be aware of which teams they are in and when and where their games are this weekend. It is important the boys are at their respective fields 45 minutes early (with the exception of the 1st XI who need to be 60 minutes early), ready to play on Saturday. In 2018, we did quite well against St Edmunds so we are looking forward to a successful trial again this year in preparation for our 2019 season.
This Friday morning, our SPLC run club kicks off. Our Run Club happens every Friday morning, meeting at the Harts Road bus stop at 6:30am. The group will run along various scenic paths, roads or trails around the Indooroopilly area and finish up back at the bus stop around 7:15am. The SPLC Run Club is open to any member of the SPLC community (boys, girls, parents, little brothers, older sisters, etc), who would like to start their morning with a bit of fresh air and get their heart rates up. It has a very social atmosphere, however if any groups wish to move along faster or take their time, this is also encouraged. It is also an excellent opportunity for any of our sports people who are not “in-season” with their chosen sports, to get “run fit” for their sport or even just for themselves.
From week two onwards, the AIC and QGSSSA training schedule will be in effect. It is important to note that the AIC Cross Country Championships is early this year (mid-term 2!), so it is imperative we get into training starting next week. Again, the training schedule is on the St Peters App. I look forward to seeing you at training and, in-particular, at our Friday morning run club!
Rowing is also getting organised for the year. Rowing is not an AIC sport, however, our rowing community at St Peters is constantly growing and more and more of our boys are determined to achieve success at regattas and competitions around the State. We are looking for more boys to join our rowing program, so if you are interested, please head in to Sports House and speak with Mr Hicks about what needs to be done to get you on the water as soon as possible!
We have a busy week ahead of us, not just in sport, but with getting organised for the school year and meeting all expectations and commitments. I encourage all of you to get organised and find a healthy routine which will allow you to meet commitments but also taking time to rest (and doing homework!) too.
I would like to leave you with two pieces of information in closing: 1 – Please keep checking the St Peters App (get the App if you haven’t already), and; 2 – Make sure our sports people are fulfilling our training and game commitments.
Yours in sport,
