The holidays can be a wonderful time for refreshment and renewal, but for some students they can also be a time of stress, change of routine, and take students away from their usual supports at school.
Parent support is very important and below are some tips from Headspace to help you support young people to stay in a healthy headspace over the holidays.
If you are concerned that your young person is struggling, ask them about it and acknowledge their feelings. Encourage healthy coping and check in to see how they’re going.
If you are noticing changes in mood, activity and thinking that persist or you believe your young person is at risk of harm, seek support from your GP or further support options linked here.

Term 1 is at its end, assessments completed, and students are ready for a break. Congratulations to all who have worked to the best of their abilities; nobody can ask for more, and I hope your diligence brings with it the rewards you were seeking.
However, it is important to realise, assessments form only one aspect of a student’s education at St Peters and do not define anyone’s potential or value. Please keep this in mind when you read the reports which will be available from Monday 7 April.
Parents of students in Years 7-10 will receive an interim report outlining the progress being made by their sons and daughters. This is an interim report, and a more comprehensive report is written at the end of the semester; however, please use this information to support your children’s learning for the remainder of the semester.
Years 11 and 12 students and parents receive continuous reporting of progress. That is, feedback and results on how a student has performed on individual tasks. These results and feedback can be accessed as soon as the task has been assessed and returned. This access is via the Community Portal of Firefly.
All parents are reminded the Parent-Teacher Interviews will be held on Tuesday 29 April and Wednesday 7 May. Please do not forget to book a place.
Can I please remind students and parents of two very important matters which were published in The Rock earlier in the year – Special Provisions/AARA and Late Submission of Assessments?
St Peters AARA Procedures for Students in Years 7-12 suffering from short term AARA and illness and misadventure
Students whose ability to attend or participate in an assessment is adversely affected by illness or an unexpected event may be eligible for illness and misadventure access arrangements and/or reasonable adjustments.
When individual students are impacted by short-term conditions or illness or misadventure, AARA may be implemented to provide opportunities for the students to complete assessments (assignments or examinations).
The College may approve:
Each AARA application will be considered on an individual basis and decisions reached through consultation. In all instances, the College will consider the principles and practices for high quality assessment in making any education adjustments.
The following principles apply to short term conditions or illness and misadventure applications:
It must be noted applications for AARA will not be considered for the following reasons:
Students may engage in a range of learning experiences or activities that exist outside of traditional school-based activities. These activities may involve absences from school coinciding with scheduled assessment periods, but they do not meet the requirements for AARA.
Where appropriate, the College may approve student engagement in these experiences.
Examples of College-approved absences may include:
If the College approves an absence on the day an assessment is due, the following actions apply:
If a student applies for AARA due to illness or an unexpected event or for a College-approved absence, the following process must be followed, or the application will not be processed:
Students are to submit assessments, as indicated on the Task Sheet (either by submitting a hard copy and/or a digital copy of the response) by 3:30pm on the date indicated on the Task Sheet.
A response submitted after 3:30pm, unless there are extenuating circumstances, will be deemed to be late and treated as a Late Submission. The draft response will be marked.
If there is no draft response, the assessment will be deemed a non-submission.
Should a student fail to submit a piece of assessment by the due date, either as described in the Task Sheet or as arranged through the provisions of AARA, the relevant Curriculum Leader will be notified.
Notification of late or non-submission and the implications will be sent to the student’s parents or guardians by the classroom teacher. The Head of 7-12 Curriculum – Students will be involved if a submission is still not forthcoming.
In cases where a draft or partially completed work has been submitted by the student prior to the due date, the College will assess the draft. In such cases the work will be assessed against the same standards/descriptors stated in the Task Sheet.
Where no draft or partially completed work has been submitted within the specified time frame, no grade will be awarded and a Non-Response (NR) will be recorded on all assessment profiles. Students whose work is recorded as a Non-Response will not be eligible for academic awards in the current academic year.
I hope the information in this newsletter is valuable and outlines important processes, and I encourage all students and parents to seek advice if they are unsure.
I wish all families a holy and happy Easter, and a relaxing and safe break from school.
Ross Boyle
Head of 7-12 Curriculum – Students
Last Wednesday at Junior High Assembly the recently selected Junior High House leaders were presented with their badges by Mr Kotzur.
House leaders for 2025 are:
Congratulations to these students and we look forward to their contributions and leadership in guiding their respective houses.
Organisation for the Year 7 and 8 camps is already underway, and information will be sent to parents next Term. Our outdoor education programs are a compulsory part of the Pastoral Care offerings at the College as they develop student connectedness, resilience and self-confidence.
If you need to discuss particular matters relating to your child’s attendance, please contact the relevant Year Level Coordinator:
Just a reminder that students will return at the start of Term 2 in winter uniform. Boys are to wear ties and trousers (no shorts). Blazers are optional until Week 3 when they become compulsory.
I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the students on the way they have conducted themselves throughout Term 1. The attitude of Junior High students towards their studies and co-curricular involvement has been very pleasing. I would also like to thank our Junior High parents for their support during the term.
I hope that all families have the opportunity to enjoy a well-earned rest over the Easter break and look forward to the students returning refreshed on Wednesday 23 April.

Acting Deputy Head of Junior High
A Night at the PAC, on Saturday 29 March, was indeed an extravaganza for the senses. Across three highly entertaining concerts, 21 St Peters Ensembles performed a smorgasbord of musical styles in front of enthusiastic audiences. It was impressive to see and hear how much each ensemble had achieved in just a few weeks of rehearsal.
In collaboration with the Art Department, these performances were visually enhanced by projected works created by curriculum art students in class and also live artworks created in response to the music being performed. It was fascinating to see the live art works develop and change as the evening progressed. The live auction of the fabulous, finished works raised much appreciated funds towards the Symphonic Winds International Tour to Japan at the end of 2025.
Congratulations and thank you to all involved.

Visual art students delivered a mesmerising showcase of their skills during Saturday evening’s PAC Soundscape project. This dynamic event celebrated the synergy between music and art, challenging the students to collaborate, think creatively, and solve problems as a team. Their efforts culminated in three extraordinary artworks.
A highlight of the evening was the floor drawing, a unique feature of St Peters' Senior visual art program. This innovative process explores the coordination between hand and brain, as well as the concept of the body as energy. To complement the music performances, films featuring student artworks were also screened, offering the audience a rich, multi-sensory experience and demonstrating the beautiful harmony of sound and visual art.
The artworks were auctioned during the event, raising an impressive $1,100.00 to support the Music Tour Program. This inspiring evening truly reflected the power of creativity, collaboration, and community!

How wonderful it was on Friday 21 March to have the opportunity to perform for a live audience of friends and family for the first time in 2025. Congratulations to all of the students in Bella Voce Girls Choir, Forte Voce Boys Choir, Junior Percussion Ensembles, Junior Stage Band, Concert Band 2 and Concert Band 1 on their confident, proficient and entertaining performances after only a few weeks of rehearsal.
Thank you to the conductors, accompanists and mentors for their musical leadership. Thank you to the members of the Music Support Group who opened the servery to provide the food and beverages. It was much appreciated by the many friends and family who enjoyed the chance to socialise before the concert.

At St Peters, our Primary Sport Standards form the foundation for all Sport in the Primary School. These standards drive consistency, skill development, and a love of Sport across every year level, ensuring all students have the opportunity to grow and thrive in a supportive environment. Aligned with the PYP Learner Profiles, they focus not only on athletic ability but also on building well-rounded, resilient athletes with strong character.
We encourage parents, teachers, and coaches to engage with these standards to support our students' growth. Parents are invited to discuss the standards with their children, using them as a tool to measure progress and set personal goals. Coaches will be holding students accountable, helping them strive towards these benchmarks and develop both their sporting skills and personal resilience.
By ensuring the whole Primary community is involved, we’re fostering a shared commitment to developing a lifelong passion for physical activity and Sport.
We encourage all families to download the St Peters App to stay informed with the latest updates. In the event of cancellations or changes to activities, clubs, or Sport due to weather or other circumstances, we will send push notifications through the app. This ensures you receive important information quickly and directly.

Harts Road Oval was awash in house colours on Monday, as Junior High and Senior School participated in the Inter-House Cross Country Carnival. Despite the unseasonably hot conditions, students brought plenty of energy and house spirit to the course.
Congratulations to Laver House, our overall Carnival winners, with Cunningham and Bradman rounding out the top three. A huge thank you to the Sports House team, Mr Bradley Chapman, House Coordinator, and our staff volunteers who ensured the event ran smoothly. Well done to all who participated!

A dedicated team of Minecraft, Capture the Flag, students had an outstanding start to the year. They competed in the Australian eSports League (AEL) Minecraft National Competition against teams from around the country. They end the term as undefeated champions. Some of there matches were quite challenging but overall, they dominated the competition and should be proud of their success. Well done Xander R, Ben A, Harry V, Erika W, Eddie J, Arki S and Gus H, (Coach) Lachlan.
This term, our Rocket League team have been facing stiff competition in the Queensland eSports NHSL competition. The team has made great improvements in their match play, communication and overall knowledge of the game. With continued practice, we are sure that their hard work will continue to pay off in upcoming competitions.

On Saturday March 22, Robotics took over the PAC to host an off-season practice competition for the FTC game, Into the Deep. Present were teams from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, keen to have a friendly competition. Four of the teams present are heading off to international competitions this year, so it was fantastic practice for our three FTC teams to mix it up with some of Australia’s best. Our new competition season kicks off in September, so during the off-season we are focusing on skills development through practice competitions, simulations and in-house training.
Our FRC robotics team, Rock Bots #9574, started our season on 5 January this year. Countless hours in the holidays, weekends and during term time, produced our most technical robot ever. The international competition, the Sydney Southern Cross Regional was going to be our robot’s debut but Cyclone Alfred had other plans. Flying through a cyclone wasn’t the safest option, so the tough decision was made to cancel the trip. While the team were disappointed not to attend the event, we were able to watch the live-stream and cheer on the competition from home.
The Rock Bots are going to continue enhancing our robot, code and driving ability so that we are ready for an off-season event in Melbourne in July. Feel free to drop by MS07 to have a look at Rocky II, our amazing robot.
Rocky II, robot details: 2.5m tall, 53kgs, 30km/hr top speed. Constructed of machined aluminium, silicone, polycarbonate, carbon fibre, 3D printed materials and over 100m of cabling.
Robotics teams acknowledge the importance of our sponsors for 2025. We appreciate your time, mentorship and financial support. Without our kind sponsors, our teams would not be able to achieve all that we have already this year. With so much of the year ahead, we are confident that their support in Term 1 will propel our teams on to ever-greater heights.
Thanks to Boeing, Hatch, Quadric, Rockwell Automation, Battery World, FIRST, Intellidesign, Freebie Rentals, Building Block Robotics and our very special Digital Parent Support Group.
The autumn holidays are getting closer, and Code Camps would like to invite students to join their fun and skill-building holiday camps.
They have a variety of convenient locations and holiday camp options for students in Brisbane

The Premier's Coding Challenge is an annual, statewide initiative for all Queensland students in Years 3 – 10. The Premier's Coding Challenge aims to encourage an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in Queensland students. The project submission portal is open from now until 12 September, so there is plenty of time to put a project together.
In 2025, students are tasked with creating an app, game or website that drives positive change in the world by addressing 1 or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals External link (SDGs).
To find our more information, please search for “Premiers Coding Challenge” or click on this link.
Students involved in Digital Cocurricular activities presented an outstanding display of their activities at the School’s Open Day on 1 March. Utilising a third of Café 45, meant that we were able to present robotics playing fields, robots in action, a Rubik’s cube solver, Digital Parent Support display, LEGO kids’ space and poster displays. We were busy all day with visitors and had hundreds of meaningful conversations.

Save the date and join us for the ALWS Walk My Way on Saturday, 10 May!
This year, the Ministry Team and the Social Justice Committee at St Peters will once again support the Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) Walk My Way in Brisbane on Saturday, 10 May, starting and finishing at QUT Gardens Point Campus. You can choose to walk 3km or walk/run 12.5km along the beautiful Brisbane River and Southbank.
While it is not an official supervised College event, it is an important community event. Members of Lutheran churches, schools, and community groups come together to walk around the Brisbane River in a sea of blue, raising awareness and support for some of the most vulnerable children around the world.
This year, as ALWS celebrates 75 years of service, it hopes to raise enough funds to provide 75,000 children with food, safety, and education. This is a huge goal, but one that we can work (and walk!) towards together. Funds raised through this event will support vulnerable children impacted by poverty and war in Ukraine, Somalia, South Sudan, Kenya, Burundi, Bangladesh, and Nepal.
Closer to the day, we will organise a meeting point at QUT Gardens Point campus to say hello to any of our St Peters community joining us.
Read more about the event here: Brisbane Walk My Way Event Info
Register to join our team, or donate here: Brisbane - ALWS75 | St Peters Lutheran College Indooroopilly
It will be a wonderful day and a great way to show our support and solidarity with vulnerable children worldwide.
If you have any questions about the event, please email me: r.rankin@stpeters.qld.edu.au.
We’d love to see you there!
