Over the weekend, our boys faced Marist Brothers Ashgrove for round one of AIC competition. Due to some rain on Friday night, our 7B and 7C Cricket matches were called off however, other matches went ahead as planned. We also hosted the first AIC Swim meet for the season which was well attended by other schools. Overall, we had a great start to the year and our respective AIC seasons.

After a successful round against Marist in 2018, our boys and coaches backed ourselves to have another strong day against these formidable opponents. Well done to our 2nd VI, 11B, 10A, 9A, 9B, 9C, 8A and 8C teams on their wins over the weekend. This totalled a 5-7 aggregate result. We also had five of our teams go down in their deciding sets showing how competitive our teams are and how much depth we have coming through out program. There were many memorable performances including Oscar K of the 11Bs who dragged his team by their bootstraps over the line to win 2-1; our 8As (whose only loss last year was to Marist), losing a match point in the second set, then being down a set point two points later, making the decision that a third set isn’t an option and closing out the set and the match 28-26 and 2-0; our 10As trailing 8-15 in the first set to come back and win the set 25-23 and the match 2-0; as well as other teams who closed large score deficits to win sets and matches. Perhaps the most memorable match was the mighty 2nds who after losing the first set, were trailing 1-12 in the second set, clawing their way back to not only win the second set, but win the deciding set in a convincing manner with a very large and vocal Marist crowd meters away from the St Peters sideline. It really does go to show that no matter what external influences are present, a team can perform at their best if they “control the controllable” and do their jobs on the court no matter what other distractions are present.
Congratulations to the following boys on their selection into the 2019 First VI team: Ben K (Captain), Jack B, Kaya B, Mitch E, Lachlan F, Justin A, Noah S, Matthew C, Michael O, Max N and Wilson L.
Well done to our Volleyball boys and their coaches on an excellent weekend of sport.

Saturday turned out to be a hot and sweaty start to the AIC Cricket season. Our boys had prepared for this day since day one of term four 2018 and we were prepared as we would ever be to play Marist for round 1. In 2018, we had a tough round against Marist and in 2019, we had a big win in the 8As and some solid performances from some individuals such as: George B of the 9As notching up 55 runs; Oscar F and Harry B scoring a 96 run partnership in the 8Bs and; Theodore B of the 5As taking 2/8 off 3 overs, taking 3 catches and scoring 44 runs not out off 32 balls – all whilst captaining his boys to a close 26 run loss.
Our Team of the week with their successful opening match was the 8As. Bowling first, the tone was set by Seb S and Lachlain R, who both executed the team plan and were backed up in the field. Despite a slight dip in energy and performance through the middle overs, a strong finish resulted in bowling Marist out for 100. After a poor batting effort in the trial match the top order were keen to prove themselves and that they did. Nick T was effective in seeing off the opening bowlers and assisting Matt H and Matt R to put on a brilliant 82 run partnership. Both young men displayed maturity as well as class in their respective knocks, implementing the work done on building their innings. Hopefully plenty more to come from this group.
Congratulations to our First XI team and to those boys playing their first match for a St Peters 1st XI team: Thomas S (Co-captain), Eashan N (Co-captain), Ethan B, Vedit C, Lachlan D, Daniel D, Ben M, John R, Ben R, George T and Benji W.
Well done to our Cricket boys and best of luck for Round 2 this weekend.

Well done to all of our boys who swam at the first AIC Swim meet for 2019 which we hosted in our 50m pool. With the AIC Swimming Championships being only four weeks away, it is important that we continue to knuckle down at training and attend our swim meets between now and the big day. The meet last week certainly demonstrated how well we have prepared up to this point and I look forward to seeing more good results coming from our hard work and the time an effort our coaches put into our swim program.
Please be sure to follow the swim calendar (on the SPLC app), for details regarding swimming and meet times.

Further to the sessions that have been put in place (including the Friday morning Run Club), in order to accommodate those athletes who are involved in multiple sports, extra sessions have been made available to give more choice to our runners so they can fit sessions into their already busy schedules. Please consult the St Peters App for the updated Cross Country training schedule.
Preseason Term 2 Sport
Preseason training for Rugby and Football will begin over the next few weeks and continue until the end of week 9 of this term. Until then, a registration sign-on google doc will be emailed to boys later this week. Be sure to sign up so you don’t miss out on a spot like some boys did with Volleyball this term. Keep an eye on your emails for this sign-on doc, gentlemen.
Well done on a great weekend of sport and best of luck for Round 2 versus Iona College.
Yours in sport,
