Date Claimer: 2019 QGSSSA TRACK &FIELD
The 2019 QGSSSA Track and Field Championships will take place ON THE STUDENT FREE DAY at the end of Term 3 – Thursday 19 September
Weekend Wrap-up
On Friday night 95 girls attended the St Margaret’s/Clayfield College hosted swim meet at the Valley Pool. With only 13 more sleeps to go before the big QGSSSA Championships on 6 March, it is very pleasing to see such big numbers at both the meets and training sessions.
On Saturday, our Open & Senior Softball girls ventured out to Downey Park for round two games. Out of the eight games played SPLC had five wins and one draw. The girls play with such enthusiasm and spirit and it is a pleasure to watch them develop and grow their Softball skills.
As our Water Polo girls head into the back end of their season, all teams are playing for final positions.
On behalf of the coaches and coordinators of our Sports, can we please remind parents to be mindful of picking your daughter up from trainings or games on time.
Sporting Behaviour
As we soon enter a busy time in girls’ sport at SPLC with the QGSSSA Swim Championships and the start of the Autumn fixtures around the corner, it is a timely reminder to reflect as a community on our conduct. Sporting behaviour is the term used to reflect sportsmanship, as it pertains to ethical behaviour, fair play, and respect for the sport, the participants, and the spectators. As participants, we need to appreciate the good sportsmanship and skills of opponents, always display good temper and grace and give congratulations, thanks and support as appropriate. As Parents and Spectators, we are reminded that children learn best by example. Never use profane language or harass coaches or officials and teach your children that honest effort is as important as victory. Recognise the value and importance of coaches and support their decisions.
QGSSSA Softball
Coordinator: Ms Natalie Holman
Well done to all girls who played on the weekend! After two rounds, our teams are sitting in the following positions on the ladder:
- Opens – 1st equal
- Snr A1 – 1st
- Snr A2 – 3rd equal
- Snr B1 and B2 – 3rd equal
At the halfway mark of the season please remember our 75% rule - you MUST attend 75% (preferably more) of the season training session and games to have Softball counted as a sport. Please remain committed for the final two weeks of the season, that is 4 training sessions and 2 Saturday’s of game.
We look forward to seeing all girls at Downey Park this Saturday.
QGSSSA Swimming
Coordinator: Mr Peter Dawson
We are in the final two weeks of the 2019 QGSSSA Swimming season and have two compulsory Friday night meets left before our final team will be named and girls will be notified of the events they will be swimming.
This Friday 22 February there is a compulsory time trial and relay practice session straight after school at the 50m pool, 3.30pm - 5pm. The provisional QGSSSA team will be selected after this Friday’s meet and so this is one of the final chances to be selected in our 2019 team. Some provisional relay teams will also be named and girls start practicing their actual relay changeovers ahead of the QG Championships
Next Friday 1 March, St Peters hosts our final QGSSSA warm up meet for the 2019 swim season at the 50m pool. This is again a compulsory meet with final team selection taking place at this time
All girls selected in our 2019 QGSSSA Swim Team will receive a letter next week providing all details about the championships on Wednesday 6 March.
Autumn Sports - Basketball, Football, Touch
Once teams have been selected and we approach the start of our 2019 Autumn Fixtures season, girls need to ensure they have the correct playing uniforms. All uniforms (except Open uniforms) can be purchased from Shop 45.
Autumn Sport TRIAL GAMES (Years 7-9 only) – Friday 8 March
There will be a trial game for all Autumn Sports for girls in Years 7-9. These trials will be played against Somerville House on Friday 8 March. The venue and draw will be distributed soon. Trial games act as a final preparation before Round 1 fixtures v BGGS the following Friday.
Open Team Training Shirt
Well done once again to our Open Basketball, Football and Touch teams for 2019. These should have all now collected their Open training shirt. The Sports Department has bought these shirts to lift the profile of our Open and 1st teams within the College. It is an expectation that you wear this shirt at every Open training session. This however is only to be worn before and after school at the training sessions. They are not to be worn during school times as PE shirts.

UPDATED Term 1 Training Schedule
Meet at the Harts Road Bus Shelter for all training sessions.
Run Club - Join our Running Community - Meet at 6:30am at the SPLC bus stop.
Cross country training is well underway and we have had a steady flow of runners attending. With trials and many other sports clashing with the training times we had posted we are happy to announce that an additional TWO MORE AFTERNOON SESSIONS are now available. All the girls’ Years 7-12 were emailed this information via our weekly girls’ sports email. The updated training schedule has been put on the school app.
Run Club
Join the St Peters running community by coming along to ‘Run Club’ a fun way to improve fitness for all sports, meet new people and start training for our QGSSSA Cross Country season. We have had terrific numbers attending run club over the past two weeks with up to 45 runners hitting the pavement.
Water Polo
Co-coordinator: Mrs Jenny Pavlides
Another great weekend of water polo and with only 4 rounds to go in the competition, the players are working hard to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Our Open and U15 teams had tough games with both games ending in a draw. Our U14 team came away with another great win.
With the extremely warm days we have had a gentle reminder to all girls to ensure they apply sunblock before their games. We would also like to remind girls that it is expected that you will be at the game at least 30 minutes before game time. This is to ensure that there is enough time to check nails, apply sunblock, have a team talk and do a proper warm up.
Girls Sports Squad Gym Session
Remember if girls are interested in starting or continuing your athletic development program please email Mr Hacking t.hacking@stpeters.qld.edu.au. You can check the gym roster on the St Peters app to confirm training times.
We hope you have a great week in sport,
Kelli Rodman and Kerry Schreiber
