Over the last week our boys have been very busy continuing with Cricket, Volleyball, Rowing and Cross Country and also moving into preseason training for Term 2 sports and activities. All Rugby teams kicked into preseason work last week and our Footballers and Chess boys are all starting this week. Our 1sts teams for these sports have been training for quite some time now, however all other teams are gearing up for Term 2. Amongst this, our Boy Rowers have been on the water preparing for our Term 2 Regatta season. This means that our boys are being spread very thin with their workloads as well as juggling their academic work, so it is very important that our boys are organised and communicate any clashes with their Sport Coordinators promptly rather than later.
Over the weekend, our boys battled against Padua College for Round 3 of the AIC Cricket and Volleyball seasons. It was great to see that the predicted inclement weather stayed away and all our boys could get our scheduled games in.

Over the weekend, it was great to see the 3rd XI, 9A and Year 6 Indooroopilly team chalk up victories. A special mention goes to Kesh M (9A) who scored 70 not out with the bat to steer his team home in the last over. Most teams are batting their overs which is a massive KPI ticked. This week we are looking to back up our batting performances but trying to bowl one side of the wicket and reducing our wides. The team of the week goes to Year 6 Indooroopilly who managed to also win a close game.
Game of the Week – Year 6 Indooroopilly
On Saturday, our Year 6 Indooroopilly team battled in a blockbuster match where the result of the game came down to the last over. It all started with the skipper, Ben, winning the toss and declared the saints will take the field to bowl first. Our opening quick bowler “destructive Dylan” went on to frustrate the Padua batsmen with his consistent line and length outside off stump, giving away no free runs finishing with very tidy figures of 0/7 from three overs. The boys knew they would have to bat very well to win the game after Padua got a total of 116 from their 20 overs. They all went out there and held their nerve with no one throwing away their wicket and making the Padua bowlers work hard to get a wicket. Thomas’ expert batting, nudging the ball around for brilliant singles earned him the high score out of the St Peter’s boys of 32, unfortunately caught in the last few balls trying to get the much-needed runs for the team to win. Once Tom was out, big hitter Ben was sent back out in an intense atmosphere, needing almost two runs a ball to win. His running between wickets with Chester was great and ended up winning us the game. Turning around from his 5 ball duck last week, he put in a great shift to earn 28 not out.
Well done to everyone and hopefully you boys can sing the school war cry plenty more times this season.
First XI Report
The St Peters boys on the weekend found out the hard way that when the game is in the balance, it only takes one spilt moment to change the momentum. Certainly a bitter pill to swallow when the boys were all over Padua early in their bowling innings. Sent in to bat, once again the openers did their job with getting the score to 0/57 before both left the crease in the space of 6 balls. The rest of the boys worked out on a slow outfield to get the score to 8/135 after their 50 overs. The boys came out pumped up which caused 2 quick wickets and had Padua in trouble 2/19 after 10 overs. Special mention to John R who took a ripper of a catch and Eashan N (VC) who needed to hit the stumps to cause a run out. Padua then started to turn our slightly over pitched deliveries into bad balls in which the score start to get away from us. Full credit goes to Padua who dug deep and manage to pull out in the win only 4 down.

Our Volleyballers have had a tough start to our season matching up against some large schools very early. On Saturday, our boys came away with 5 aggregate wins and 7 aggregate losses which was down from our 8-4 from 2018. Congratulations to our 10A, 9A, 9B, 8A, 8C, 8D and 7B teams on their victories in the Volleyball. Many of our coaches reported boys getting solid runs of serves meaning that our boys are now hitting targets with their serving and delivering a more attacking and strategic serve which is something that our coaches have been working on at training. Honourable mentions must go to Cooper R for his consistent serving and positional play; Matt Hall for serving 6 unreturnable serves early in the third set to set up our 8Bs to take the final set (not deciding set, however); Xavier B’s 8 serve streak in the 7Cs and; Max N and Mitch E stepping up to play pivotal roles in our 1st VI.
There were many exceptional performances over the weekend and our 10As were no exception. After earning a win against Marist College and suffering a defeat against Iona, the grit of the boys shone through against Padua – something that has served our boys well so far this season. The boys started the game confidently and were able to pull away late in the first set to win 25-20. After a tight start to the second set, Padua snuck away to a 5 point lead and were in front 24-21 before St Peters staged a great comeback to level the scores at 24-24. Unfortunately, we threw an error our next two points and the set finished up 24-26 bringing about a deciding third set. The third set was never in doubt with our boys serving well and building pressure on Padua with strong blocking at attack. We finished the deciding set 15-8. Currently our 10As sit with two wins and one defeat knowing what we are capable of and confident that we have what it takes to finish the season strong.
Well done boys and good luck this weekend against Villanova.

Numbers have been excellent over the past couple of weeks for Run Club on a Friday morning. Run club is for the whole community and we encourage parents and friends to attend every Friday morning at 6.30 till 7.30am. Please meet at the internal bus shelter above Harts Road Oval.
Recently many boys were emailed updates for AIC Cross Country. This year the season is very different as we now have the major championships ON MONDAY 13 MAY. Whilst there is a lot on it's really important to try and get a session in at least once a week. There are many sessions available as per the schedule below. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Kerry Schreiber.
