Have you ever wondered how someone can be joyful in times when life gets rough? This week we are half way through Lent. We celebrate, what we call the 'little Easter', the light that shines into the darkness, the hope that allows us to prevail; the hope of new life that will only come to fruition at the dawn of Easter.
In the gospel of John (12:24) Jesus uses a metaphor to describe and interpret what is going to happen to him - in response to the request, “We want to see Jesus”!
Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
Only when the tiny grain of wheat is buried and dies, it will bear fruit for many to be nourished; it is like bread – that only when eaten will sustain the body. It points us to the transformation that God brings about, often in times when we think we have reached the end – but then are granted new beginnings, often pointed in a direction we didn’t consider or dream of.
It often happens at times we don’t know where to turn or which decision to take, when we wait for a door to open or for an ‘inspiration’ to make us see, that something shifts; from being ‘in control’ to acceptance, from the pretence of ‘knowing it all’ to listening, from focusing on ourselves to the awareness of others and our surroundings, from being caught in a cul-de sac to a change of perception and direction. The times when we have to let go of what has been, of much loved perceptions or convictions, of what we wanted to do or achieve, those are the moments when the 'Grain of wheat dies', so that something new can sprout.
Overcoming those tough places and challenging times often teach us the important lesson of how to trust next time around, teach us that hope of a new dawn kindles the flame even in times of deepest darkness. It is those times when we need to hear the story of resurrection, of the one, who witnessed to God’s presence and future when everyone else thought his story and life had come to an end.
May you be granted comfort and hope in challenging times, a light in dark places and the assurance of God’s presence, showing you a new way and granting new beginnings!
Laetare! Rejoice! Because the midst of night is the half way mark to a new dawn breaking and new life promised!
National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
Tomorrow (Friday 19 March) is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. This day is all about educating students on the dangers of bullying in our community and how we might combat them. We are very blessed in our St Peters community to have many educational opportunities and support services aimed at combating it; however, they do not entirely stop bullying from happening. Everyone must look out for themselves and their peers to spot bullying and help resolve it wherever they can.
Bullying is something that can happen to anyone at anytime and in any form, be it physical, verbal or psychological. It has been found to most commonly be done by those who have been bullied themselves, prolonging the cycle of violence and hate. With the growth of social media in recent years, cyber-bullying has become even more commonplace with the protection of being behind a screen. Some common signs of bullying are:
Exclusion or if someone is often alone
Frequent target of teasing, mimicking or ridicule
Sudden changes in class engagement
Withdrawing from social activities they previously enjoyed
Appearing insecure or frightened
Everyone must be able to recognise these signs and act upon them so that it does not have an adverse and long term effect. Sometimes bullying happens without us even realising. If you’ve been called a bullying, you should reflect on yourself and your actions and see if they have harmed anyone. If so, we encourage you to get some support and apologise to the victim.
The theme for this year’s National Day Against Bullying is to Take Action Together, meaning that we can only combat bullying by working together and getting help. As aforementioned, everyone must look out for themselves and their peers to spot bullying and help resolve it wherever they can. Students 4 Students have been actively been promoting this throughout the week, speaking to Junior High and Senior School students on assemblies. In support of the day, students are encouraged to wear orange on Friday, be it orange accessories with formal uniform or an orange shirt with HPE or orange shorts. Only together can we combat bullying and make our community a safer place for all. For more information about the day, please see the Bullying. No Way! Organisation website: https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/
As one final note, you may notice students around the college wearing badges with the Students 4 Students logo on them! The logo was designed by Michelle W (Year 12) and the badges were produced by Tory C (Year 12). Not only do these badges represent a proud member Students 4 Students, but it also signifies someone who is approachable for help. So if you are struggling with bullying or any other problem, do not be afraid to approach your peers with this badge! They will be more than happy to help or get you the help you need.
Thank you, and lets Take Action Together!

PRIMARY YEARS LEADERS 2021
On Tuesday at Chapel, we announced the Primary Years Leaders for 2021. The successful students are:
Primary Years Co-Captains: Eve N, Lauren W, Lachlan F, William C Faith and Service Captains: Wiebe dJ, Caitlin L, Sam R, Mackenzie D Music Captains: Scarlett H, Josh L Leichhardt Captains: Tian J, Amelia T Mitchell Captains: Sam N, Valentine C Cunningham Captains: Kavan S, Sienna D
We congratulate all students who applied for positions – we glad over half the cohort of Year 6 students interested enough to write an application, and so while there are many excited students, we also acknowledge that there is some disappointment associated with this process, and so I would like to acknowledge all students in Year 6 who challenged themselves by putting their names forward. this shows courage and resilience – two traits which are very much valued in the Primary Years at St Peters. We will be using your skills throughout the year.
A formal service will take place prior to the Easter holidays to acknowledge these successful recipients of their positions. Further details will be sent to parents in the coming days.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Please make sure you read the information you received yesterday regarding the Term 1 Parent Teacher Interviews for all students and their families prior to the upcoming holidays. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance, or alternatively the Administration in your area.
Our top 10 tips to survive and thrive in the last weeks of Term 1!
As the days near closer to the end of term we’re all feeling the strain and exhaustion of a busy and productive Term 1. We are looking forward to celebrating a fruitful term’s work at the Parent Teacher Interviews in Week 10. As we wind down to the end of an eventful term our patience, tolerance and enthusiasm seems to evaporate as the as the cooler weather sinks in … for kids and adults alike!
To help us survive and thrive in these last weeks of school here are our top 10 tips to get us through to the Easter holidays.
Take it outside. Try and move homework activities to an outside location to add novelty to this task. Why not chalk spelling words on the driveway! Fresh air and opportunity to let off some steam is great for us all.
Acknowledge progress. Encourage your child to reflect back on his/her school term and think about what has been learnt, what was challenging, how it has been dealt with and what he/she is proud of. It will be interesting to see if this comes up in your Parent Teacher Interview.
Keep schedules. Now is not the time to let structure fall away as tempting as it is. Kids rely on these routines to help cope through the school day.
Pace yourself. It’s ok to say no to some activities!
Plan a special family dinner or outing. The end of a long term is significant so why not plan a special outing to mark the occasion.
Keep it positive. Kids thrive on and reflect our energy so keep it upbeat to ward off the end of term blues. Ask the kids to share their ‘Sparkle of the Day’ at dinner time and share yours too!
Ask kids for their input. Suggest that the kids give you 5 wish list activities for over the holidays to keep their focus moving forward.
Organise a play date. Help children to continue to foster and nourish their at school friendships by organising a holiday play date.
Fill a bucket. Get your child to write a note to their teacher or a friend to say thank you for something special this term.
Go easy on yourself and your child (and your teachers too!).

CONGRATULATIONS
Last week on Years 8 and 9 Assembly we handed out the Personal Best Bronze Academic Awards and the Academic Improvement Awards. These Awards recognise students who have shown significant growth in their learning as evident in improvements in their overall GPA results. We congratulate students for working hard to achieve their best on their individual learning journey.
BEING PROACTIVE – THE JUNIOR HIGH HANDBOOK
Schools can be very complex places with lots of rules and procedures to follow. This can be particularly challenging when you are new to the College. The best source of information for parents and students regarding most day-to-day school matters and regulations is the Junior High Handbook. The online version of this document is the most current and we advise parents not to print it as changes are occasionally made through the year. The document can be found on Firefly → Resources → Secondary Indooroopilly → Secondary Parent Information → Junior High Parent Information → Junior High Handbook or click here.
EARLY DEPARTURE / DELAYED RETURN
The College understands that occasionally students are absent during term time due to family commitments. The College procedure for Leave: Early Holiday and Late Arrival is clearly explained in the Junior High Handbook (available on Firefly) on p13. In particular I would like parents to be aware that any assessment missed while on leave may not be able to be made up and parents need to consider this before making travel arrangements. While assignments can be submitted before students leave, the rescheduling of exams is not generally possible and leave to take holidays does not qualify for Special Consideration. If the exam is the only time a particular criteria or concept is formally assessed, missing it will likely affect the student’s overall results. It is therefore highly recommended that you consult your child’s assessment calendar and contact their teachers prior to applying for leave. All leave applications should be emailed to s.leave@stpeters.qld.edu.au Please identify the Year level and Name in the subject line.
Students should have made up their own personal Assessment Record Planner using the information on Firefly. Go to: Firefly → Resources → Secondary Indooroopilly → Junior High Curriculum → Select Year 7, 8 or 9 Curriculum → Assessment Calendar → Assessment Record Planner. Junior High Curriculum
We are quickly approaching the end of term and it is important that students take responsibility for being on top of their assessment.

Overdue meningococcal vaccination consent forms
Dear Year 10 Parents
We still have a large number of Year 10 students who have not yet returned their Meningococcal vaccination consent forms. We have to return every student’s form with a parental 'yes' or a 'no' answer written on the form.
Returned forms are checked off from our Year 10 roll to ensure all forms are returned.
Please remind students they are to return these forms to Senior School Reception or the Health Centre by the end of this week.
If forms are not returned, parents may be contacted by the immunisation service to check if they are aware of the free vaccination program being offered.
Spare forms are available at Senior School Reception.
Thank you.

AUTUMN FIXTURES
Bus transport for Autumn Fixtures
All girls are expected to take the school buses provided to the Autumn Fixtures each Friday afternoon (for AWAY games only). Bus details are always provided at the bottom of the draw for each away game. The draw is placed on the St Peters App as soon as it is finalised each week.
If girls do not require a seat on the bus for any reason, please email your sport coordinator so buses are not waiting. If girls are not returning on the bus provided at the end of the games, students must advise the coordinator before they leave the venue.
A reminder to all students driving themselves to sporting fixtures after school, parental permission is required by the school for any students to drive themselves to and from fixtures. Parents are to email the sport coordinators and myself to give this permission. Students are not permitted to give other students lifts unless the parents of the passengers also email the sports coordinators & myself to notify of this arrangement. Many thanks for helping keep the girls safe whilst in our care.
Singlet presentations, starting line up introductions, lay ups, three pointers and half-time shooting contests; the Opens vs Old Scholars game had it all!
The Opens started the game off well, leading by five points just minutes into the game. With some sharp shooting from the Old scholars, they were able to secure the lead going into the second quarter. Opens displayed fantastic full court pressure in the second half, resulting in some turnovers which led to easy scoring in transition. However, the Old Scholars experience and shooting touch did not quaver, leading by 18 points in the second half. The Opens did not back down, as they showed tremendous effort on both ends of the court. The girls battled back, bringing the game within 6 points late in the 4th quarter. The final score Old Scholars 59 def Opens 50.
Congratulations to our Opens Basketball team and thanks to the Old Scholars for a great game. Special thanks to our SPOSA (the St Peters Old Scholars Association) who donated hats and lanyards to the Old Scholars. They were presented with their gifts at the end of the game.
Round 2 Games v St Aidan’s: Friday 19 March – Please CLICK HERE for the UPDATED draw (bus details are included).
It has been a great start to the season for QGSSSA Football with all teams starting with a win!
This round saw St Peters taking on Clayfield at Perry Park which is known for its large and well-maintained fields.
The Junior girls had a phenomenal performance winning their game 16-0. These kind of scores don’t come very often in Football but it is amazing to see such a high standard of talent in the team. The Intermediate team took on Brisbane State High and finished up with a 7-4 win. A shout out to Sienna O who put away four goals to secure the victory. The Senior girls had a much harder fight on their hands but persevered to score a stunning goal to win 1-0. The Open team came away with a 4-0 victory. It was a long, hard game but the team really rose to the occasion. There were a number of shots which hit the crossbar showing that this score line had the potential to be much higher. A big well done to all of the teams for their determination and efforts – it’s going to be a great season!
Round 2 Games v St Aidan’s: Friday 19 March – Please CLICK HERE for the draw (bus details are included).
The Girls 2020/2021 season of BWPI Water Polo has finished for the season. Our awards breakup was held in the PAC Amphitheatre on Monday evening. With over 115 girls in the program and nine teams entered into the competition, it was a wonderful end to an eventful season. The girls should be incredibly proud of the season and with their performance each and every week. Although this season we didn’t reach any semi or grand finals, the girls improved each week in their pursuit to understanding the fundamentals of the sport, game play and team awareness in and out of the water. A very big thank you to our parents who continually support this program by driving their girls to their late training sessions of an evening at the 50m pool and game days on Saturdays at up to nine different pool locations over the season which runs in Terms 4 and 1 of the following year. We would like to thank and acknowledge our coaching staff who are instrumental in ensuring the girls are well prepared, skilled and ready to take to the pool each Saturday of the competition. Thank you also to our parents who took on the role of Team Manager or who volunteered each week to score their daughter’s game. With Covid-19 restrictions in place and spectators originally not able to enter the venues it was tricky for parents to watch their girls play on any given week. Your patience was appreciated during this challenging time.
Congratulations to the award recipients who were awarded either the Coaches award or the Most Valuable Player in each team who play in the competition at the ceremony on Monday night.
Lastly, thank you to all the girls in the program for excelling in our motto of Care, Dignity and Respect in a sport that can be very unpredictable and at times very challenging. Your team spirit and rising above to play fairly is a credit to you all and to our coaches who instil the level of skill and care to play this physically demanding sport.
We look forward to a break for a couple of terms and then signup for the 2021/2022 season will occur at the end of Term 3. Trialling will take place at the end of Term 3 with the new season commencing at the beginning of Term 4. Girls watch your emails mid Term 3 for trial dates for the new season.

This is a fantastic way to improve their overall fitness and will stand them in good preparation for their up and coming team sporting season.
