Every term is busy at St Peters, with a myriad of events and activities filling the weeks. Term 2 often feels busier than the others because of the number of shorter weeks created by public holidays. With this in mind, it is important that our students get straight back into the routine of learning and study. Time is precious, and a disciplined focus on learning now at the start of the term pays off in a range of ways later in the term.
Student Culture
At the Student Assemblies over the next couple of weeks I will be talking with our students about our St Peters Culture. Culture can be defined as ‘how we do things around here’. I will be suggesting to our young people that as students how we do things at St Peters can be distilled into five key actions:
Place a high priority on learning
Strive for Personal Bests in all they do
Have high expectations about their learning, attitude, behaviour and uniform
Treat each other with care, dignity and respect
Use their gifts, talents and learning to make a difference at St Peters and in the Community
ANZAC Day
On Friday at St Peters we will pause to commemorate the 107th anniversary of ANZAC Day. Over time ANZAC Day has come to occupy a special place amongst Australians and New Zealanders. ANZAC Day is a time where we pause to acknowledge all former and current members of our defence forces – the brave men and women who serve our country on a daily basis.
On Monday I encourage you to take time to remember all those who have fallen in service of our nation; pause to give thanks for their sacrifices; and reflect on all that our country is and enjoys because of the courage and bravery of our fellow Australians. Lest We forget.

Around the College
Langer Library
Thanks so much to everyone for all the fabulous birthday wishes we received. The Langer Library turning 50 years old was memorable. It was lovely to welcome back to the library former Heads of College, staff and students, including Dr Carson Dron, Robin Kleinschmidt, Adrian Wiles, Barry Jahnke, John Fridemanis, Ray McKinnon, Jennifer Luttrell, Cheryl Spencer, John Findlay, to name a few. Apologies for being unable to come on the day were received from many including Dave Woodrow, Neal Nuske, Jane Greenwood, Megan Daley, Jane Trewern, Liz Cushworth, Lianne Sodini, Rebecca Sparrow….
It was wonderful to open the time capsule and look back over the past 50 years – what a change! The development of so many innovations over those years. Technology at the library has had such an impact over the years. The timeline is momentous - 16mm film projectors, ¾ inch videotapes, VHS, digital streaming; typewriters, electric memory typewriters, audiotape, Walkman, iPods, digital audiobooks on demand, eBooks, databases, and of course the internet. Despite people saying print books would disappear there is still such a heavy library demand for them from our current students and staff. We will be replacing the original contents and adding a few new items into a new time capsule to be replaced behind the wall plaque.
Term 2 will see many more exciting times at the library. It might be just a place to chill at lunchtime or come and join in the Student Book Club meetings, lunch time activities or meet up with friends. We will also have many research tasks commencing.
Lunch time Homework Help
Did You Know?
Years 11 and 12 IB Diploma students volunteer their Thursday lunchtimes to help with any homework concerns.
All students in Years 7-10 welcome and any subject. Expert proof-reading available.

Primary Years News
I am delighted to welcome you back to Term 2 of the 2022 College at St Peters. I trust that your Easter break was one filled with family and friends, and that rest and recuperation was a priority after a busy start to the year.
Parent Volunteer Induction Sessions
Parent Volunteer Induction Sessions are designed to provide parents with vital information regarding College policies and procedures for when they are working with students in the classroom and around the College. At these sessions we cover topics including student protection, duty of care, confidentiality, and classroom etiquette. It is mandatory that all volunteers take part in this induction programme prior to assisting at the College.
We will be hosting three 30 minute sessions this term and these will be held in Belfield Hall on Thursday 28 April at 8.40am and Friday 6 May at 8.40am and 2.30pm.
2022 Primary Years Leaders
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams
Every student in Year 6 is a leader with our hope being that they demonstrate care, dignity and respect in all they do. As part of the Primary Years Leadership Program, students in Year 6 had the opportunity to apply for formal leadership roles.

JUNIOR HIGH NEWS
Welcome back! As we begin a new term it is important that we take time to reflect on our experiences during Term 1. The start of the year always presents challenges, particularly for those who have started at a new school. The students should be commended for the resilience shown throughout Term 1.
During the holidays, parents will have received their child’s mid-semester reports via Firefly and the Community Portal. We encourage parents to spend time with their children reflecting on results. As a College we have encouraged students to work to their full potential and achieve results that reflect their ability. If students have been able to do this then they should be very proud of their efforts and achievements. If not, why not?
Did the student establish effective study habits and routines? Are there clear boundaries in place regarding the use of technology at night? Are they getting enough sleep? Did the student spend enough time on homework and assignments? Did the student seek guidance from teachers in a timely manner? Did the student engage in class work and discussion? By understanding the ‘blockers’ to reaching goals, students are more likely to overcome these and experience success in the future.
Perhaps a better indication of a student’s work ethic and application in class comes from the teacher’s observations on participation and effort, homework and behaviour. It should be the aim of every student to receive high scores on each of these criteria which are also outlined in the reports.
During Academic Care and Wellbeing sessions, students will also be reflecting on their experiences and results in Term 1 in order to evaluate their achievements and refine their goals for Term 2.
The Term 2 ASSESSMENT CALENDAR is available on Firefly and students and parents are encouraged to refer to it regularly to assist with preparation and organisation.
PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS
As you are aware, parent teacher interviews occur in coming weeks. These interviews are a wonderful opportunity for parents to meet with their child’s teachers and discuss progress, areas requiring attention and strategies for ongoing improvement. While these evenings are an important and effective way of parents meeting numerous teachers in a short time, we would also like to remind parents of other modes of communication which are available throughout the year.
Should you have any ongoing concerns with a student’s progress in a particular subject, please do not hesitate to contact the relevant teacher to open the lines of communication. Email is often the best form of communication as teachers are busy attending classes throughout the day. Emailing a teacher will enable them to respond more easily within a reasonable time. If for some reason they don’t respond to your email please contact them via phone as occasionally emails will go through to their ‘Junk email’ folder where it may go unnoticed. A teacher may follow up with a phone call or suggest some suitable times to meet if that is more convenient. We recommend that the Form Class teacher be copied in on any correspondence regarding your child.
Form Class teachers endeavour to work with their Form Class to create a unique level of support - which means if you have any concerns relating to your child’s attitude, social skills, resilience, organisation or other pastoral care related issues, their Form Class teacher is the best person to contact. The Year Level Coordinators are also available to support and assist students and parents.
YEAR 7 & 8 CAMP DATES
Organisation for the Year 7 & 8 camps is under way and information will be coming out to parents in the coming weeks. Camping programs are a compulsory part our of Pastoral Care offerings at the College as they develop student connectedness, resilience and self-confidence.
Year 7 Monday 13 June - 15 June (Week 9 of Term 2)
Year 8 Tuesday 12 July – Friday 15 July (Week 1 of Term 3)
If you need to discuss matters relating to your child’s attendance, please contact the relevant Year Level Coordinator.
UNIFORM
I’d like to take this opportunity to point out some of the finer details regarding the wearing of the uniform in winter.
Boys - please make sure your top button is done up when wearing your tie
Girls – as (if/when) the weather gets colder, girls may wear black opaque tights
Blazer:
The blazer is optional until the first week of May (Week 3 of term) but all other items of the winter uniform should be being worn. From the beginning of May, the blazer must be worn to and from school each day.
Students may wear their jumper during the school day instead of their blazer if they find it more comfortable.
The blazer must never be worn with the HPE uniform – a St Peters tracksuit jacket may be worn with the PE uniform for warmth. Tracksuit pants are also available.
Naming items – please ensure all your child’s uniform items and belongings are clearly named/labelled.
IRONBARK DEPARTURE
On Tuesday morning we farewelled the students in 9A and 9B as they set off on their Ironbark adventure. We wish them all the best and look forward to visiting them.
ANZAC DAY CEREMONY
This Friday (tomorrow) the College will hold is ANZAC Day Commemorative Ceremony. The Year 12s and Year 7s will attend the ceremony in the Dron Auditorium. Other Year Levels will watch the ceremony via livestream in Form Classes.
Students were reminded on assembly that they must wear their formal uniform tomorrow (not House Shirts).

Mr Butler returns as Acting Head of Senior School this term, and Mrs Vidulich returns to the Senior School in her position as Counsellor. IB Art students produced a Body/floor Drawing response to the music performances : Live.
The concept of using the body to produce marks that are fluid and layered as a response to sound has been captured in these images provided by photographer Colin Bushell.
The Artwork is a large format, visual record of the physical process of harnessing energy, movement and sound, using materials on a surface.
These elements meld together to visually record the immediacy and sensation of engaging in the creative process!
Congratulations to Alanna, Luella, and Lina for their authentic performance!
Thank you to Ms Cornelison and Mr Higgins for assisting on the night.

Our Rugby Teams travelled up to the Sunshine Coast to play against Sunshine Coast Grammar School as well as participated in the Ballymore Cup, whilst our 1st XI Football team played a mid-week game against Ambrose Treacy College at home on Harts Road Oval.
We were also fortunate that some training camps could go ahead over the Easter break. Boys Rowing attended a camp at YMCA Cam Warrawee and Lake Kurwongbah, Petrie, whilst both Rugby and Football also participated in camps at St Peters and at Alexandra Headlands respectively.
Cross Country also managed to get away at Alexandra Headlands for a three day training camp.

Finally, to the boys, thank you all for ‘turning up for OUR college’ each and every week. Your passion to play at your best, to train at your best and to bring to life memorable St Peters sporting moments is very much appreciated. Thank you for keeping the St Peters spirit of ‘Plus Ultra’ alive!
2022 AIC Cross Country & Runners Club
Each boy from Years 7 to 12 has been emailed and alerted about signing on and participating in Cross Country for St Peters. We strongly encourage any boy who is looking at participating in a Term 2 sport (Rugby and Football) or a Term 3 sport (Basketball, Tennis and Track & Field) to get along to at least one Cross Country / Runners Club session. This is a fantastic way to improve their overall fitness and will stand them in good preparation for their up and coming team sporting season.
Cross Country at St Peters has traditionally been well received and very competitive at both AIC and QGSSA. Let’s work hard in 2021 to maintain this high standard and consolidate on past years participation and performances. Training times for Cross Country can be found on the St Peters App. Boys can also find more details about Cross Country from the weekly sport email sent to them.
