We’d love for you to join us!
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever. (Psalm 23, ESV)
There is a movie that I love, called ‘Greyhound’, based on a book called ‘The Good Shepherd’. Tom Hanks plays Ernest Krause, the commander of a supply convoy escort during the Battle of the Atlantic in the Second World War. He is a man of faith conflicted by the twin calling of protection and destruction. Like a shepherd to the sheep, Ernest is to his ships; leading, providing for and protecting them from the circling wolf pack.
Last Sunday was Good Shepherd Sunday, celebrating Jesus as the Good Shepherd. When I think of Jesus in this way, I am drawn to parts of Psalm 23 like, ‘your rod and your staff, they comfort me’ or ‘my cup overflows’. Its easy to picture Jesus all dressed up holding a lamb in one hand and a shepherd’s crook in the other. It is an image of peace.
But the world of a shepherd was not one of peace. Night and day the shepherd would lead the sheep to places to eat and drink. They were lowly people in the society, and when a sheep went missing it was only their word that anyone had to go on, so they were viewed suspiciously. By day and by night, there would be hungry creatures or greedy bandits who might lurk waiting to pick off the sheep, one by one. So, shepherds had to give their all to their job, that is except their lives. They lived with their sheep 24/7 even so far as to sleep as part of the sheep pack.
But this week we also commemorate ANZAC day, remembering those who served and died for their country. We remember the sacrifices they made so that we might live in peace. We remember that they laid down their lives for their fellow country people. Those who gave their all, to protect the people of our country. The psalmist dreamed of the Good Shepherd as someone who would guide, comfort and care for the sheep. Jesus came and he was the Good Shepherd! He did all that, but going above and beyond, he lay down his life for the sake of the sheep. When confronted by wolves, Jesus did not fight back. Instead, Jesus gave his life for the sheep. In doing so, Jesus proved to be the best shepherd there could be.
A prayer for today: Jesus our Good Shepherd, lead us today through our trials, valleys and challenges and onto greener pastures. Amen.

In response to feedback from families and the schools, Southern Cross Transit have agreed to implement changes from Term 2 to the S60-S64 routes. The S60 and S61 services will servicing St Peters and Brigidine and skip the ATC loop (S62 and S63 will service ATC/Brigidine only), while the S64 route will service all schools but stop at Brigidine and St Peters first.As these are the routes reported to experience the most significant delays, it is our hope we will see greatly improved running times. We have ensured that the roads covered by all S60-64 routes previously are still serviced by at least one bus to St Peters. There are no changes to the S65 and S66 routes. (No further changes to The Gap service provided by Brisbane Bus Lines). We have been assured that the drivers will ensure St Peters students do not accidentally board ATC only buses and vice versa.
Please review the maps ASAP to confirm which route is the best for your students (Best viewed on desktop. Click checkboxes on the left to reveal the relevant route) - https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1OQ_rK8lX6RDqlRKVv0sHbW9DjW7uf5Q&usp=sharing

This year is the 109th anniversary of the World War I landings at Anzac Cove on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey. Today we remember and honour the men and women who have served and given their lives in wars, conflicts and in peacekeeping operations for our country.
'They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
'Lest we forget.

In the Easter school holidays, 14 students in Years 10-12 went to Wyaralong Dam for the Duke of Edinburgh Silver Adventurous Journey. Despite the threat of torrential rain, we canoed 24km across the three days, staying at a different campsite each night and carrying our belongings in the canoes with us.
On the first day, we canoed all day in the sun, covering 12km, to reach the first campsite. Most of us had not canoed before. After a little practice and a few tips from the Ironbark staff, Mr Onions and Mr Clarke, and Mr Noble; we got over the initial fear of capsizing and started the journey. We all enjoyed this activity and improved greatly across the trip, and thankfully, no one actually capsized. We worked in small groups to plan meals, which we then cooked on Trangia’s at night.
On the second day, we canoed 7km, and reached the campsite around midday. We spent the afternoon swimming in the dam and practicing what to do if we did ever capsize. That night, it stormed and poured with rain however we all stayed dry in our tents, or on the veranda of the abandoned farmhouse at the campsite. On the third morning, we got up early for a sunrise hike up Mount Joyce, where the path was slippery and steep but worth the climb for the view of the dam between the trees; before we canoed the final 5km back to our start point. This trip brought back memories of Ironbark, and we were lucky it only rained at night, creating great canoeing weather and clear skies during the day. Overall, this canoe trip was fun and a great way to be independent and spend time with different people while having fun and completing a challenge. A huge thank you to the staff who came.

The Easter holidays saw the completion of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey. Accompanied by Mr Gudze and Mr Bygraves, a group of 11 Senior School students travelled down to Girraween for a four-day hike along the border of Queensland and New South Wales. Enduring sunshine, rain, wind and fog, we explored rocks and mountains, seeing some absolutely incredible views and accomplishing a lot as a group.
On the first day, we hiked to the junction, Granite Arch, and Pyramids tracks, before setting up camp. Day two was the longest day of the hike, trekking 19km, with a 700m elevation to the summit of Mt Norman. It was steep, hard but super rewarding. Especially since the top of the mountain had reception so Mr Bygraves didn’t lose his 600+ Duolingo streak! We capped off the day with a beautiful sunset and some very one-sided warlords and scumbags’ hands.
On Day three, we woke up shivering cold and drenched from the rain but soon packed up our gear and got on our way. It was a much shorter hike and so we arrived at camp around midday. After a quick snack we explored the nearby caves and rocks, where the positivity of the group was infectious. What would start out as a casual, “surely we could get through that”, would turn into “if you do it, I’ll follow”, to the entire group navigating their way through these insane obstacles. Climb after climb, it was amazing to see everyone gain confidence and get through stuff they didn’t think they could do. One section you had to go in backwards and blind. You couldn’t see where your feet had to go and if you missed the ledge you would drop. Yet, every single person did it. They trusted the person before them and went for it. It was epic! The day finished with the boys eating their somewhat questionable packaged hiking foods before we settled down for the night.
The last day, we trekked back to where we started, enjoying our lighter packs and some good conversations. From there, we headed back on the bus, stopping at Maccas for some greatly appreciated food and a final game of cards.
Overall, this hike was a great experience that I would highly recommend. This trip is a great way to step out of your comfort zone whether it is in mixing with people across grades, hiking for four days straight or simply being away from your phone. Thank you to Mr Bygraves for taking time out of his holidays to drive the bus and join us on the challenge and to Mr Gudze for organising it all. Duke of Edinburgh trips have been a highlight of my St Peters Journey and something I’m very grateful for.

Congratulations to all students who participated in last Wednesday’s Years 4 – 6 Cross Country event on Mayer Oval. It was fantastic to see students so determined to finish the race and collect points for their House. As Primary Years staff repeatedly teach our students, while it is wonderful to see our amazingly talented runners take out the top places on the day, it is just as admirable to see the students who know they are not the greatest runners, showing true grit and determination.
Congratulations to all participants, the staff for their support, the Year 6 Leaders for instilling their enthusiasm and parents who supported the event. Special thanks must go to Mr Ben Shields, Mrs Sue Muir, Mr Orhan Memedovski and the staff from Sports House for their excellent organisation and continued commitment to students in the Primary Years.

On Wednesday this week, the Years 7 and 8 students attended a one-hour incursion called Backflips Against Bullying presented by Action Education. This presentation is an important part of our anti bullying education that aims to develop skills such as resilience and empowerment. The content was delivered to students through a combination of parkour and acrobatics in an exciting and engaging format. The presenters covered topics such as power dynamics and resilience, cyber bullying, physical, verbal and social harassment, real world consequences and targeted and repeated harassment. Students not only thoroughly enjoyed the theatrical presentation, but also felt empowered to respond appropriately when faced with any bullying behaviours. In the coming weeks, students will engage in a range of follow up activities during Pastoral Care lessons to continue to develop these skills in our Academic Care and Wellbeing program.
On Tuesday, the Junior High Captains and Vice-Captain, together with the College Captains, represented the College at the 2024 Anzac Commemoration Ceremony for Students at the Shrine of Remembrance, Anzac Square in the city. Our students were joined by representatives from other Southeast Queensland schools and official guests to pay respects to Australian defence personnel who have served from WWI to present. Our students laid a wreath at the Shine of Remembrance on behalf of the St Peters community and learnt more about the Spirit of ANZAC.
One of the best ways to assist your child to set themselves up for success is to help them develop good organisational skills. Note that this does not mean organising things for them but helping them to develop routines and systems to manage themselves. Through this connection, you might also support them by sharing some of the strategies you use to prioritise your own time and explain how you keep on top of professional and personal tasks.
Term 2 Assessment Calendars are now available on Firefly (access via clicking on the links below). We encourage students to look through the calendar and write their specific due date into their Student Diary. Spending time with your child while they do this, or to check yourself to see what they have coming up, can also be an opportunity for you to engage meaningfully with your child’s learning experiences. Knowing the content that is being covered in various subjects and the various assessment tasks (assignments or exams) being undertaken during the term will assist you in doing this.
If your child is wishing to get involved or would benefit from getting involved in one of the lunch time Clubs or Groups at the College, they can find out more information about when various activities are held on Firefly. There is a very comprehensive list of activities available, and information can be accessed through the following link:

A reminder that the ‘My Student Account’ system is the preferred payment system at the College and Junior High students are not able to use cash, their phones or watches to make transactions across the College (Café / Tuckshop, Uniform Shop or during fundraising events) but need to use their ID cards. The ‘My Student Account’ system allows students and their families to top up their ID card with funds. We recommend that all students keep their ID cards on them at all times to enable them to purchase food at the tuckshop, borrow books from the Langer Library, and to sign in/out at Reception. We recommend that student ID cards are kept on a lanyard or somewhere easily accessible.
The ‘My Student Account’ system is located at:
If your child misplaces their card a new one can be printed at the IT Help Desk in Theile House. Students need to have $10 on their account to cover the cost of a reprint.
We are very aware that St Peters is a large and complex campus, which can be particularly challenging for those new to the College to locate information and to understand our expectations and procedures. The best initial sources of information for Junior High parents and students regarding most day-to-day school matters and regulations are the Junior High Handbook and the 2024 Junior High Student Diary.
The online version of the Junior High Handbook is the most current and we advise parents to check this document regularly as changes are occasionally made throughout the year. The two Firefly pages which parents are advised to become most familiar with are:
Secondary Parent Information https://stpeters.fireflycloud.net.au/secondary-parent-info/junior-high-parent-information. Through this Firefly page, you should be able to readily access the Handbook.

Congratulations to Old Scholar Torrie Lewis (2022)! The Australian sprint sensation stunned at her Diamond League debut in Xiamen, China winning the 200m. Lewis won the race in 22.96, the second fastest 200m time of her career, beating one of her sports idols American 100m world champion, Sha’Carri Richardson.“
It was so surreal beating Sha’Carri,” Lewis said after the race. I didn’t even notice I beat them until I saw the replay and I was like, ‘Holy Crap!’, (it’s) so surreal. My goal was to just hold on as long as I could. I was in lane 9 so I knew they would all be in front of me by 50 or 60 metres, but I just wanted to do as well as I could.”At 19 years of age, Torrie has already cemented her status as a rising star in Australian athletics and we wish her continued success on the track for 2024 and beyond.
