For Term 2, students are to wear the full formal winter uniform including blazer and hat to and from school.
Boys in Year 5 - Year 12 are to wear their school tie with the formal shirt top button fastened. It is also essential boys’ shirts be tucked into their trousers. Black belts are required for boys and polished black lace up shoes and St Peters socks are required for both girls and boys.
Girls in Primary Years are reminded that when wearing the dress, the hem must be no higher than the base of the knee. Dresses which currently sit above the knee will need to be adjusted.
Girls in Junior High and Senior School wearing the skirt are reminded the skirt length must sit no higher than the top of the knee. Skirts which currently sit higher than the top of the knee will need to be adjusted.
Hair must be its natural colour. Boys’ hair must also be clear of the collar and ears, tapered to the shape of the head and out of their eyes. Girls must ensure their hair is neatly tied back, out of their eyes and that hair accessories are either maroon or white.
Girls are also reminded that only one set of earrings may be worn in the lower lobe. Earrings are to be either gold or silver studs or sleepers. Makeup, cosmetic enhancements and pearl earrings are not a part of the uniform.
All students are required to carry their books in the College designed bags, this includes PE and sports clothing which are to be carried in the College sport bag. Other style of bags are not permitted.
We would appreciate your support in reminding your child of the College’s grooming and uniform expectations.

In this edition of SchoolTV - DRUG & ALCOHOL USE
Many parents are concerned about the use of alcohol, as well as other drugs as their children grow up. For kids, a one time or infrequent use of alcohol or drugs can unfortunately result in tragedy such as unintentional injuries, homicide or even suicide. Young people who use alcohol and drugs before their brain is fully developed are often at greater risk of future addiction.
Research has shown that a young person’s brain keeps developing until they are in their mid-twenties, making alcohol more harmful than previously thought. Even the casual use of certain drugs can cause severe health problems such as an overdose or brain damage. Parents will often feel overwhelmed when having to deal with substance abuse issues. However, they are encouraged to lead by example and set behavioural boundaries for their kids.
In this edition of SchoolTV parents will learn how to deal with the issues surrounding drug and alcohol use and the impact it can have on a child’s development. Alcohol and drug use can lead to serious problems such as poor academic performance, loss of friends, behavioural issues and even lasting legal problems.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

A Greater Thing
“They will do even greater things than these!” – John 14:12
I love how Jesus tells his disciples they will do things even more impressive than the incredible things he did. Jesus did many amazing things, but one of the things he did not do was raise children. We celebrate that Jesus was fully human, but we also recognise he didn’t have kids. Jesus may have turned water into wine, but he never had to get a toddler out of the confectionary aisle of the supermarket empty-handed. He may have walked on water, but he didn’t have to separate an eight-year-old from an iPad. He may have fed the 5,000, but he didn’t ever explain to a teenager why they don’t necessarily need an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Being a Mum and raising a child could qualify as one of the 'greater things Jesus was talking about. Motherhood has hard moments. At every stage of your child’s life there are new challenges to meet. Sure, there is plenty of advice, but none of it has been tried and proven to work on your child. You are the one who must decide if you will test out the latest parenting hack and you are the one who will live with the results if it doesn’t work. Never mind that it’s only the future life and wellbeing of your child that you could mess up!
Jesus invites us into a future with him in which all things are possible and in which we do “even greater things than these”. He invites us to trust he is with us on the journey. He invites us to recognise the sacredness of what we do in his name. He invites mothers to recognise the wonderful vocation of motherhood. Of all the ways God could have chosen to save the world he did so by sending his Son to be born as a human baby to a human mother. God entrusted Jesus to Mary knowing she and Joseph would raise Jesus the best way possible, in grace, humility and love in readiness to save humanity.
Although motherhood has hard moments, it has even greater joys. Every day your child learns new things, growing and changing. You have had a hand in that in a way no one else has. There is a very real sense that you are the best mother in the world for your child. You are the one God chose to give a child to and to give to your child.
When Jesus promised his disciples that they would do even greater things than these, he also promised to send the Holy Spirit as their Helper to enable and empower them for this work. Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to mothers and fathers as they do the work of raising children, just as he gave the Holy Spirit to Mary and invited her to be a Mother in the first place.
God bless all Mums on Mother’s Day as you do a 'greater thing' in raising your children.

Popcorn for a good cause
Last Friday Sutherland house set out to raise money to purchase teddy bears for Kids Cancer Project to provide some much-needed joy for sick kids.
To do this they sold boxes of ‘Popbox’ popcorn which was generously donated by Team Scarecrow, an innovative small business based in Toowoomba.
Sutherland House pulled together and raised over $400.00 to buy a full bear bundle which will be delivered to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in the next few weeks.
Thank you to Team Scarecrow for their wonderful contribution and way to go Sutherland for doing a good deed!

Y11 Study of Religion UQ Excursion
Year 11 Study of Religion students have been learning this semester about world religions and their sacred texts. Their assignment this term has them analysing selected texts from the Jewish and Christian Scriptures. On Friday, the students attended an excursion to the University of Queensland Library to access their Biblical Studies resources.
It was a productive time of learning how to use discipline-specific scholarly literature to locate the information needed for their research. We are very thankful to the UQ Library staff who met us and helped us with the logistics of our visit, and it was great to bump into a few St Peters Old Scholars and hear how they are traveling in their university studies!

CHATGPT and AI platforms
Reading Tracey Spicer’s new book, ‘Man-Made’, my thoughts were challenged when she raised the notion that technology is now a part of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. What a long way we have come since I was at university! Artificial intelligence platforms are the topic of conversation across academic realms worldwide. Students, teachers, parents and academics alike, are learning the benefits and downfalls of AI models, such as ChatGPT, as this technology develops at a rapid rate. Academic integrity is still paramount for our school and students and therefore our approach to student usage is aligned with current St Peters and University standards of referencing.
Students are reminded that there are age limits to be able to use this platform; that their privacy and terms and condition of using these programs come with risks. If a student does use AI to assist in scaffolding and/or finding information they must adhere to referencing guidelines as well as providing a full transcript of the AI generated response. Above all, we want students to ensure that they use a range of quality, accurate, unbiased and current research in their assessments. Whilst these new technologies are an incredible advancement, we need to continue to promote and develop our students into critical and individual thinkers.

Mother's Day Breakfast
The Primary Years had the pleasure of celebrating Mother’s Day by sharing breakfast and Chapel with our students and their mums yesterday. It is such a lovely way to start the day and I would like to especially thank Mrs Hall-Smith and Mrs Staples for their expert organisation of this event. Thanks to Chaplain Kirstin and our Year 6 Faith and Service Leaders who led our Chapel Service following the yummy breakfast. My gratitude also goes to our student helpers, we very much appreciate your support and involvement. I hope all our Mums and Grandmas have a wonderful day on Sunday.

Under 8's Morning in Lower Primary
"Before we ever put a pencil in a child’s hands, those hands should dig, climb, press, squish, twist and pinch in a wide array of environments and with a variety of materials." Amanda Morgan
What a morning! The sun was shining, the air was cool and the atmosphere was one of excitement and enthusiasm! Last Friday in our Early Years playground children in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 celebrated Under 8’s Day with several fun activities that recognised both early childhood and the importance of play in the cognitive and physical development of small children.
Thanks to all who contributed to our Under 8’s Morning: all teachers and teacher’s assistants who manned an activity for our Under 8’s. A massive thank you to you all for your love and commitment to our students.
We had a wonderful turn out of parent helpers who were reminded of the privilege our Primary Years teachers have in teaching our young people each day. Thanks to all who attended and helped I hope you finished off your morning with a well-deserved cup of coffee!
Special thanks to the St Peters Drumline who opened our morning in such an enthusiastic and enjoyable way it's always a pleasure to have these young people in the Primary Years.
INTER-LUTHERAN CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to the students and PE staff who battled the chilly start on Tuesday to compete with other Lutheran Schools in the Inter-Lutheran Cross Country. Despite our wintery conditions, there was an overwhelming climate of personal best and teamwork from our Primary Years athletes.
UNIFORM REMINDER
A timely reminder as our weather cools down the St Peters pullover is to be worn with the formal uniform, while the tracksuit top is only to be worn with the sports uniform.
Of course, our Upper Primary students should also be wearing their blazers both to and from the college on formal uniform days.

Year 9 Chinese Excursion to Chung Tian Temple
On Friday 28 April, our Year 9 Chinese students were excited to visit the Chung Tian Temple and celebrated the Budda’s birthday festival.
Students were offered a wide range of immersive cultural experiences that enhanced their cultural understanding. The cultural activities included meditation practice, Lion Dance instruction, Chinese art painting, and kung fu. One of the memorable moments for the students was being able to appreciate traditional Chinese architecture in the temple buildings and the beautiful Zen gardens. The lunchtime food market was another highlight, with a vast selection of authentic Chinese cuisine for the students to enjoy.
This was a great experience that students of the Chinese language have longed for. They were very engaged with these activities and learned a lot through the excursion. It was rewarding to see them showcasing their language skills and their love for language learning.

A Visit from the Chief Justice
This week at our Senior School Assembly, we had the privilege of hosting a special guest Queensland's Chief Justice, The Honourable Helen Bowskill. The Chief Justice spoke to students about her inspiring life and it was a message that all young adults should hear, especially those who are struggling with mental health challenges or are still trying to figure out their career pathway.
The story of Chief Justice Bowskill is one of perseverance and determination in the face of mental health struggles. After completing year 12, she embarked on a journey that was not without its challenges. Despite encountering academic difficulties and dropping out of two different university programs, she did not let these setbacks define her. Instead she continued to push forward, eventually auditioning and being accepted into a drama course at Kelvin Grove. Although her time there was short-lived, she refused to give up and sought out professional help for her mental health struggles. Through her journey, Chief Justice Bowskill demonstrates that with perseverance and the right support anyone can overcome the obstacles in their path.
Chief Justice Bowskill is an inspiring example of how setbacks can lead to success. After facing several challenges, her parents encouraged her to enrol in the Lorraine Martin Secretarial College to develop her skills and find work as a waitress or nanny. Little did they know that this decision would be a turning point in her career.
At the college she learned shorthand and typing on a typewriter which she still uses today in her role as Chief Justice. The experience of succeeding at something also gave her a much-needed confidence boost which would help her achieve great things in her future career.
Her first job after the course was a temporary position in a barrister's chambers where her spelling abilities caught the attention of one of the barristers. This led to more job opportunities and ultimately inspired her to become a barrister herself. Today, Chief Justice Bowskill is a prominent figure in Queensland's legal history and she is a testament to the power of hard work and determination.
The story of Chief Justice Bowskill is one that reminds us of the importance of persevering through adversity and failures. Despite facing a significant setback, she didn't give up on her dream of pursuing a career in law. She wrote a letter to QUT pleading for special consideration and was granted permission to enrol in a Bachelor of Laws program.
Her dedication to her studies is inspiring. She worked full-time as a secretary while studying part-time in the evenings, using her secretarial skills to take shorthand notes during lectures and typing them up on the weekends. It took her seven years of hard work to complete her degree, but she never gave up.
Her journey is a reminder that success is not always about achieving everything quickly. It's about dreaming big, being determined and persevering through the challenges that come along the way. She also shows us that failure is not the end of the road; it's just a step along the journey.
As students navigate the challenges of being a teenager in today's world, some may be feeling lost and uncertain about the future. We can take heart from Chief Justice Bowskill and remember that setbacks and failures do not define us. With determination and perseverance, we can overcome any obstacle and achieve our dreams.
The Chief Justice shared with us one of her favourite quotes from Albert Schwitzer:
"Success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful"
In a world where we're often tempted to seek instant gratification, Chief Justice Bowskill's story is a refreshing reminder that success takes time and effort. We're grateful for the opportunity to learn from such an accomplished and inspiring individual.

Tickets include a three-course meal, 4-hour drink package and entertainment – the fabulous Baker Boys Band. There will be a range of incredible raffle prizes up for grabs, as well as a live auction.
All proceeds from the 2023 Gala Ball will be donated to support the amazing work done by Youngcare in the wider community. To find out more, visit Young Care's website HERE.
Thank you to our sponsors, Allclear Print & Signs, Ray White Springfield, VBR Lawyers, Merchant Warrior, Motorama Ford and Image Developments Pty Ltd for sponsoring this event.
We look forward to seeing you at the Ball!
St Peters eSports is expanding
The St Peter's eSports program is looking at expanding to eRacing. We are seeking three or four racing kits and are asking our community if there are any that are gathering dust at home. Racing kits will need to be compatible with PC.
We look forward to welcoming our Old Scholars who are current parents to our first event at the new SPOSA café in the Centre for Learning and Innovation building to kick off the June Reunion weekend. Please RSVP HERE.
