At St Peters, career exploration is a vital part of our students' journey, helping them align their interests and values with potential career paths. By engaging in self-discovery, exploring various industries and setting educational goals, students gain crucial insights for their future. We incorporate global perspectives like the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals to help students connect with broader issues. Practical experiences and interactions with industry specialists are encouraged to shape informed career decisions.
In this latest Schoolwise blog article, Careers Counsellor, Jacquelene Estevao, explains how St Peters is helping students to make value-driven choices for a fulfilling professional life.
As the end of term approaches, students in all years will be completing assessments, and during this time there will be some students who face illness, injury and other issues, and these may require AARA (Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments) to be made. In order for equity and fairness the following needs to be followed:
Please contact the Academic Hub if you are unsure or have any questions.
Senior Pathway and Subject Selections is an exciting time for students and families as the College, students, and families work together to map a path of study for Years 11 and 12, training and career options. The current Year 10 cohort will begin preparing to select their Senior Pathway for 2025/2026 in the final weeks of Term 2 and the first part of Term 3.
Staff will present Course and Subject Information at assemblies, and students will be working through a draft of their SET Plans (Senior Education and Training Plan) in Form Class time. It is a good idea to begin conversations with your sons and daughters about what they have learned from these sessions and activities, and their thoughts and wishes for the future. Please be aware many students will not have a definite idea of life after school and the purpose of our process is to give some thought to this and to keep as many options as possible open for the students.
Subject Selection information for 2025/2026 will be distributed to families early in Term 3, and parent information sessions and evenings will be held for parents and students on the dates below. These information sessions will be delivered on campus, recorded and made available on Firefly after the presentation evenings.
DATES:
Wednesday, 17 July at 5:45pm | Parent and Student Information – Session 1 | Dron Auditorium, Performing Arts Centre
Wednesday, 24 July | Parent and Student Information – Session 2 | Performing Arts Centre

Throughout this week, all around Australia, young children and their teachers will celebrate Under 8's Week.
Lower Primary celebrated with a variety of activities and our Years 1 and 2 playground was abuzz (it was also National Bee Day) with laughter, creativity and boundless energy as we honoured the youngest members of our community.
Under the theme "Connecting to Culture through Play," our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students took centre stage, leading and hosting many of the engaging activities. Their contributions were invaluable, weaving cultural insights into every game and craft.
The Jahnke Rainforest, a treasure trove of exploration, became the backdrop for collaborative endeavours, sparking creativity and curiosity among our young learners. Guided by our resident beekeeper, Murray, we delved into the fascinating world of bees, celebrating National Bee Day and emphasising the importance of these pollinators.
Thanks to Mrs Grieves, Mr Glass, and Mr Brown for orchestrating this dynamic morning of learning and fun. Their dedication and enthusiasm, along with the tireless efforts of all Early Years staff, created a memorable experience for our students. A special mention goes to our Boarders and Year 12 prefects whose support added an extra layer of warmth to the festivities.
As we bid farewell to this year's Under 8's activities, we carry forward the spirit of exploration and cultural appreciation. Together, we remain committed to nurturing the boundless potential of our youngest learners, fostering confidence, compassion, and resilience. Here's to many more adventures in learning and fun at St Peters!
The rescheduled Cross Country Carnival for the Prep to Year 3 students was a delightful event, basking in the glow of a sunny afternoon and radiant smiles. Brimming with determination and resilience, the students revelled in navigating through the obstacle course and running around Stolz Oval. Heartfelt appreciation is owed to the meticulous planning and coordination by Mrs Muir and Mr Memedovski, whose expertise ensured the event's success. Equally commendable is the unwavering enthusiasm and dedication of the entire staff from Prep to Year 3, who continually demonstrate their love for nurturing the youngest members of our school community. Special recognition must also go to our Year 12 Captains and prefects, whose invaluable support and encouragement added an extra layer of warmth to the afternoon.

The Year 9 cohort attended a wellbeing presentation titled “Nutrition Support and Stress Management” by Katherine Maslen from the Shift Clinic on Wednesday this week. Students learnt how good nutrition provides their bodies with the energy for health and growth and were encouraged to consider a variety of healthy foods in their diet.
The presentation also helped students understand how they can develop positive habits to support emotional health, particularly during stressful periods. These strategies include talking to someone for support, good nutrition, adequate sleep, exercise and socialising.
In Junior High, we focus on a particular character strength each week/fortnight as part of our Academic Care and Wellbeing program. This week our focus theme is social intelligence. Students have been reminded that a person with high social intelligence is aware of the motives and feelings of themselves and others, and how to fit into different social situations. They are also likely to feel comfortable in social settings and know when to say the right thing at the right time. It is an important skill because without social intelligence, building relationships can be difficult. There are various ways to develop and improve one’s social intelligence. These include genuinely listening to others in a conversation. Truly paying attention to what a person is saying can leave others feeling as though they have been understood and that a connection has been made with them. Additionally, it is important to pay close attention to what and who is around us. Socially intelligent people are observant and pay attention to subtle social cues from those around them and respond accordingly. Along with some other key messages about being socially intelligent, these are reminders we have been communicating to our students — both through our formal assemblies and in our daily interactions with them. Being able to ‘read the room’ is a key ingredient in building positive relationships with others.
It is evident that a large number of Junior High students are not using their Junior High Student Diaries regularly, or that their use is somewhat ineffective. Every student in Years 7–9 is provided with a diary at the beginning of the year. These diaries are important organisational tools, as well as a point of reference and source of information for students in relation to the rules, processes and expectations of Junior High and of the College. The diaries also contain information about the history of the College, the House system, uniform expectations and guidelines (with accompanying photographs), eSafety information and details about the co-curricular offerings available each term.
The primary purpose of the Student Diary, however, is to provide structured support for developing and assisting student organisation. There are timetable and assessment templates, term overview planners, goal-setting and reflection pages and pages for each week of each term in which students should be recording their homework for each subject.
Disappointingly, based on anecdotal information from teachers and the large number of diaries that appear to have ‘gone missing’ during the semester, it would seem that many students are simply not using their diaries correctly or effectively, and sometimes not at all.
I ask that parents endeavour to engage with their children’s learning through regular diary checks (daily/weekly). This could be through asking to see the diary each night (particularly with Year 7 students) to identify and discuss what homework has been assigned and then checking afterwards to see that it has been done. These few minutes of interaction around the diary will assist your children to develop positive organisational habits and to be held more personally accountable for their own learning. Parental monitoring assists children until they are mature enough to develop the independence necessary to take ownership of their own learning journey. This process is invariably built through a supportive partnership between home and school.

The Year 10 Entrepreneurial Studies classes completed a three-week sprint after the creation of each Start-Up. Student teams have been following the Lean Start-Up methodology demonstrated through prototyping, marketing, pricing/funding estimates and market validation work.
The Year 10 students answered questions about their products, marketing techniques and pricing. They also accepted feedback on how they might improve their products/ideas in their next iteration.
This semester’s Start-Ups focus on improvements to the St Peters community ranging from Apps for ordering food, navigating around campus or keeping track of sporting schedules to improved book bags, a nifty locker organiser, a boot/shoe circular economy program, a filter that is easily removed from bubblers to keep them free from debris, a system that uses facial recognition to help with signing in late to classrooms/buildings and a system that connects public transport systems directly to our systems to explain 'lates'.
Artist and printmaker Glen Skien facilitated a printmaking workshop with the Year 11 QCAA and IB Art students on Wednesday 17 May. The students were fortunate to view some of Glen's extraordinary artist books and prints. He shared techniques, including nonprinting with watercolour, drypoint etching and Chine Collé.
Glen has become a regular at the College, and we thank him for his gentle manner when working with the students and his willingness to share his expertise.
The Senior Visual Art and Film students presented their IA2 work to family and friends in the Performing Arts Centre on Saturday afternoon. The sophistication of the themes and mastery evident in the works was impressive. The audience was most supportive, with many engaging and inspired conversations taking place that will assist students in further developing their responses in IA3. Well done to both the Art and Film students!
The Spectrum Art exhibition continues and has been updated to feature Junior High works during the Kaleidoscope season.
Last week, Year 8 students had the opportunity to meet Joel McKerrow, award-winning slam poetry author, whose captivating words and powerful performance left a lasting impression on everyone who attended the session.
Joel McKerrow’s poems, with their inspiring metaphors, similes, and imagination, provided practical recommendations to our young poets and complemented their current Slam Poetry English Unit.
It was a privilege to witness a master of the craft! Through raw honesty and vulnerability, Joel McKerrow has undoubtedly sparked a love for poetry and ignited a creative flame within young minds empowering them to embrace their unique voices.
The Langer Library staff was thrilled to nurture this passion for literature and creativity in our school community by organising this Year 8 Literature Event.
This week, St Peters hosted the Queensland Youth Music Awards (QYMA). This competition draws ensembles from all over Queensland to compete in a supportive and collaborative environment. St Peters played host to a vast majority of the sections including the Primary Concert Band, Secondary Concert Band (Intermediate) and Secondary Concert Band (Advanced) sections.
Concert Band 2 performed on Monday night in the Primary Bands section and received a Silver Award and 3rd place for their efforts. Adjudicator Ms Ashleigh McLaren congratulated them on a great performance and commented on the ensemble's presentation and discipline on stage. For many members of this ensemble, this was their first public performance. Not to be outdone, Concert Band 1 and Wind Ensemble both performed in the Secondary Bands (Intermediate) section on Friday evening, receiving a Silver and Gold Award respectively.
The highlight to round out the week was a phenomenal performance from Symphonic Winds in the Secondary Bands (Advanced) section on Wednesday night. Symphonic Winds earned a Gold Award and 1st place against the cream of Brisbane’s Music Schools.
Congratulations to all performers and thank you to Mr Pradella, Ms Omote and our team of student leaders for their tireless efforts backstage.
The St Peters Band program now shifts focus to our next event, “Music from the Stage and Screen”, on Sunday, 2 June, at 3:00pm in the PAC Dron Auditorium.
