This will be my last contribution to The Rock. During the holidays we will move to Toowoomba, where I will take up the position as Pastor to Concordia Lutheran College from next term. So, after 6 ¼ years at St Peters we are leaving this amazing, multilingual, multicultural, diverse community, which we have been privileged to be part of.
Farewells are almost always a little bittersweet, mixing the sadness of leaving good friends behind, leaving a community we have grown fond of and who has supported us in so many ways, with the excitement about a new challenge ahead at Concordia College, another albeit much smaller Lutheran school community. This is the eighth move in our 27 years of marriage (five of them interstate), and it doesn’t get any easier – but we move in the confidence that our Lord is with us and with you all the way, and with a sense of God’s calling.
I also leave with an immense sense of thankfulness. Thankful for the graceful reception we received here, for the support given, for the many things I learned, for many people who encouraged me, for the opportunities to get to know you, to teach, to share the Good News of Christ, and to remind us of our foundation in Christ and of the plus ultra, the more beyond that is so vital to our lives.
St Peters prepares future leaders, young people who will have to master living in an increasingly complex, globalised and challenging world, and who will shape that world. I believe the amazing opportunities St Peters provides give our students a good foundation on which to build their lives and an incredible variety of opportunities, from Music to Sport, Service Learning, extracurricular opportunities to develop their gifts. I certainly pray that they will continue to step out with confidence, knowing they are held by a loving God, who is with them as much in their darkest hours as in their greatest successes, and who calls them to develop and use their God-given gifts in service of others, making a positive difference in the world.
So, farewell St Peters and thank you for the opportunity to serve you for a little while, and here is a blessing from St Paul, that I would like to leave you with:
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Corinthians 13:14)

MMG Questionnaire
Dear Parents and Caregivers
As part of our continuous improvement process, I wish to provide opportunities for parents (Prep to Year 12), staff (Academic and Corporate) and students (Years 5 to 12) to provide us with feedback relating to their views of St Peters Lutheran College across a wide range of areas.
The research is being conducted by MMG Education, a specialist education consultancy that works with schools in the areas of school strategic reviews and stakeholder satisfaction. MMG’s client schools include many schools across Australia.
Parents were invited to complete a questionnaire which closes tomorrow, Friday 18 June.
MMG Education emailed you an invitation to participate in the review and provide you with your confidential, secure access to your questionnaire.
To ensure confidentiality and to encourage frank and full expression of views:
All responses will be de-identified;
The data will be reported back in aggregated form only; and
All data collected by MMG Education will remain under its control and archived according to research protocols. The College will not be able to access it.
At the conclusion of the research period, MMG Education will provide the College with a report. This report will then help to guide the ongoing development and improvement of St Peters.
If you have any questions regarding the project, please contact Lisa Delaney, Deputy Head of College (l.delaney@stpeters.qld.edu.au).
I look forward very much to the valuable contribution you will be making to this important project by completing your questionnaire.
Yours sincerely
Tim Kotzur Head of College

Celebration Month – Culture Week
The St Peters Culture is one of pride: every day we wear our uniform as proud ambassadors of the school. We hold ourselves with dignity, we care for our community and we respect our neighbours. The culture of our school spans generations and grows every day by the way we students act and present ourselves. The St Peters Culture allows for freedom of learning with so many different opportunities and facilities at our fingertips; we are able to achieve anything with the support of the College and God. This is the culture the St Peters community has built and will continue to expand upon for future generations of students.
Culture is an extremely broad term that encompasses our heritage, beliefs and values, as well as our passions, talents and dreams. It is the united expression of our identity and our community. We express our culture through various different means, but mostly through sport, art, music and dance. Our culture is also defined by our heritage and we draw from our heritage in cultural activities. The St Peters Culture furthered by our multiculturalism, which we will learn more about next term in Multicultural Week.
To celebrate our culture and since it’s also the end of Term 2 boys and girls Sport, Students 4 Students hosted some social sports matches to celebrate the achievements of our sportspeople! Unfortunately, we weren’t able to have our Boys 1st Rugby vs Girls Opens Touch match yesterday due to the wet weather. Despite this setback, we were still able to have a phenomenal Futsal match between mixed teams of 1st Boys Football and Open Girls Football. The crowd absolutely loved every moment, from the intense midfield classes to the skilful goals scored by our talented students. Well done to everyone who participated and thank you to everyone who came along to support!
Also, at lunchtime today, we hosted a 'Dancing with the Seniors' competition! This involved Seniors partnering with someone in another Year Level to compete in Just Dances to ultimately determine the best dancing duo in Just Dance! The Year 12s rallied behind this initiative, engaging with the event and supporting their peers in lower grades. The competition effectively connected everyone to the senior cohort and enhanced the cross-year-level connection between us. Thank you to the Seniors who took charge and led this fantastic initiative as well as everyone who came along and participated!
And with that, the St Peters Celebration Month draws to an end. While there were many hoops we had to jump through to make sure everything went smoothly, it was all worth it for the impact we’ve made on our College. Thank you so much to everyone who made this possible, particularly to the students who assisted us in organising the many events throughout the month. In case you didn’t notice yet, every activity was organised and led by students! So none of this would have been possible without the leadership and faith of everyone involved. Special thanks to our College Captains for helping us advertise every event and being the best supporters of Celebration Month! And of course, thank you to the amazing Students 4 Students leadership team who helped us make sure the month ran smoothly.
We would also like to extend our thanks to the staff that supported us with this initiative; while the activities were organised and led by students, it couldn’t have been achieved without the support of the College staff. We particularly want to thank Pastor Silke for designing Chapel worships around each of the weekly themes and perfectly connecting them to the word of God. We also want to thank the Junior High and Senior School Administration Team for their support when we promoted the events at sub-school assemblies, as well as all the Year Level Coordinators for promoting the events when we were unable to. We’d like to thank Mr Kotzur, Mrs Delaney and everyone on the Senior Leadership Team for giving us the opportunity to host this event. A very special thank you to our amazing Communications team for posting all the media and articles for Celebration Month and overall being fantastic supporters in getting everyone aware of what’s going on. And finally, we’d like to thank Mrs Midgley and Ms Braby for being with us every step of the way - we couldn’t have made this event what it was without your unwavering support. Thank you.
We are so grateful to have been able to host this Month of Celebration and for everything we’ve achieved in Students 4 Students. We look forward to how future generation members nurture and expand upon this phenomenal event! We hope you all have an amazing holidays and we hope you continue your prideful celebrations throughout the rest of June.

Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital Foundation
My name is Jacob Deeb, and I am a student in Year 11. I also have the privilege of being a volunteer at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital Foundation.
On Wednesday 23 June the Foundation is hosting their annual giving day. This is a charity fundraiser to support medical research and patient care at the RBWH. This year we are aiming to hit a massive target of $500,000. For every dollar raised by the community the Foundation is planning to double it. This means that as a Foundation we are aiming to contribute at least $1 million to medical research and patient care at the RBWH.
Understanding this, it is imperative that the Foundation can obtain the support from as many people as possible. As the largest hospital in Queensland this hospital acts as a hub for many critical and complex cases across the entire state. Any and all fundraising support will have great impact on the lives of people, not only in the Brisbane area but, across the entirety of Northeast Australia.
As a St Peters community, we have a remarkable opportunity to lend our support here. The donation of any sum of money will go a long way to support the ground breaking medical research and innovative patient care that has helped save millions of lives.
Please consider giving to such a great cause through the THIS LINK.
Thank you.

Farewell
“It takes a village to raise a child”. African Proverb
The end of the term has come along very quickly for me and suddenly I am being faced with, 'the lasts' - the last chapels, the last Kiss and Go duty, the last time I will encourage students to persevere to make it to the end of the monkey bars, the last Rube Goldberg afternoon, the last meeting with our Year 6 leaders, and so on. The list this week continues to grow. These form such happy memories for me and ones that I will take away and cherish into the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the various members of our community for your support throughout my time at St Peters. Speaking with parents in the last few weeks the overwhelming message was that our success is the relationships formed with students, their families and the staff. We are so blessed to have the richness and complexities of a global community right here, on our doorstep who, for the most part, treat each other with the care, dignity and respect. I have been truly humbled to be a part of this for over 10 years and worked with amazing people. What an honour!
To give our students the best possible start in their educational journey, an entire community of people must be able to work together for children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. It does indeed take a village to raise a child. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child’s village.

Mr Greg Moor (7K) and Mrs Rejeena Thomas (7E) will be taking Long Service Leave for the durations of Term 3. We hope they enjoy this opportunity to rest and spend time with their families. In Term 3 we welcome Ms Laura McBeath (7K) and Ms Bianca Stewart (7E) to the Year 7 team.
A number of families will be leaving us at the end of this term as their life adventures take them elsewhere. They will always be part of the St Peters family and we keep them in our thoughts and prayers as they settle into their new communities and we thank them for their contribution to our College.
Year 8 Camp & Year 9 E/F Ironbark Departures
On the first day of Term 3 (Tuesday 13 July) we will be faced with the logistical challenge of both the Year 9 E/F Ironbark departure and Year 8 Camp departure. Parents will be sent instructions over coming weeks, and we ask that you check your emails over the school holidays to ensure that you know what is required on the morning. If you don’t receive an email please remember to check your ‘junk email’ folder.
If unforeseen events occur over the holidays which might impact your student’s departure for Camp or Ironbark, please contact the Year Level Coordinator and me as soon as possible via email. These will be responded to after Wednesday 7 July.
Happy holidays everyone! Stay safe and we’ll see you next term.

Year 11 Fashion
This term, the Year 11 Fashion class had the opportunity to visit Black Milk Clothing to see a fashion studio in action. Black Milk Clothing designs and produces clothing items that have been produced using sublimation printing technology, which is the technology students are using for their own Swimwear Design project in Fashion. Guided by Jules McMurtie from the Gateway School Program, the students toured the facility and were able to see the entire manufacturing process, from ideation to creation. Students gained knowledge of the various roles within the Fashion Industry and learned of different pathways that can be taken to enter the Fashion Industry, with the class also running into Old Scholar, Maryanne Frost, who now works at Black Milk. This real-world experience gave students a practical knowledge of industry standards relating to fashion production, in addition to inspiring them to design stylish swimwear.

Term 2 wrap
Last weekend witnessed the last round of AIC Rugby, Chess and Football for our boys at St Peters. Congratulations to all our teams for a successful season of Term 2 Sport. We had many ups and downs but extremely happy to say that the ‘ups’ definitely outweighed and out shone the downs.
Congratulations to St Peters Boys AIC Chess who completed their season in third place aggregately behind St Laurence’s (first) and Marist (second). A wonderful result which we all should be very proud of.
Likewise, a special congratulations to our St Peters Boys AIC Football who also secured third place aggregately this year behind Marist (first) and Iona (second). The competition was close with only five points separating third and second and eight points from third to first. The aggregate third place for St Peters is the best result achieved by our College since 1999 (the founding year of AIC sport).
A special congratulations to our 3rd XI Football team who managed to secure the 2021 AIC Football Premiership. Well done to all involved in St Peters Football in 2021. You all should be very proud of what you have achieved this year.
Our St Peters AIC Rugby finished off their 2021 season strong against Iona College in Round 7. Though finishing aggregately in eighth place, this is definitely not a true reflection of the quality and standard of Rugby being played at St Peters. With seven St Peters Rugby teams entered into the AIC competition, it is very difficult to finish off an AIC season higher on the aggregate table. As our program grows and develops over the coming years, so will the number of St Peters teams and this will stand us in a great position for greater success and competitiveness within AIC.
We must also commend and congratulate our 1st XV Rugby team for their courageous and outstanding win against Iona at Iona College last Saturday. Coming back from a score line of 19 to 0 and to finish the game with a win of 33 to 19 speaks volumes of the character and tenacity of this year’s First XV Rugby team. Well done and congratulations gentlemen!

St Peters student Cooper R (Year 10) was recently selected to play in the Met West Regional Schools Volleyball Team earlier in April. Last week, Cooper competed in the Under 15 Queensland Schools Volleyball Championship. His team was extremely successful, and podium finished in third place to secure the bronze medal. At the completion of the competition, selectors chose a State Team in which Cooper was named to play for Queensland. The National All Schools Under 15 Volleyball Championship has unfortunately been cancelled for 2021, however, an Australian Under 15 Merit Team will be announced at a later date. Congratulations Cooper on a great achievement, well done!

OLD SCHOLARS GAME & 2021 SEASON LAUNCH
Our inaugural St Peters Netball Old Scholars game was a huge success with many of our current players venturing down to our Harts Road Courts to watch our 2021 Open Team Squad take on our Old Scholars team.
The experience of our Old Scholars with Tracey Bruce leading the way saw the Old Scholars get off to a great start, but the determination and talent of the youth in our Opens team saw them fight back in what was a very close game!
We are looking forward to next year already and we thank all our Old Scholars for joining us to kick start the 2021 QGSSSA Netball season!
Please CLICK HERE for details of the Holiday Training Sessions on offer.
