Welcome to Term 3. A particularly warm welcome to those new students and their families joining St Peters this term. I hope that you settle in and feel part of our community very soon.
Semester One Reports were made available over the break. They provide a snapshot of where your child is at in their learning journey. If you haven’t already done so, it is important that parents have conversations with their child/ren as to their progress. Comments and feedback around effort, attitude, classwork and homework are as important (if not more so) than grades. The start of the second semester provides students with the opportunity to take stock and establish their learning goals for the second half of the year. (Re)establishing good study and homework routines are crucial to the achievement of those learning goals. Consistent, focused effort in class is another key element if our young people are to achieve their goals.
Something that sets St Peters apart from other schools is the quality and nature of the Student Experience. Whether it be the breadth of academic subject offerings or cocurricular activities such as Music, Arts, Sport, Robotics, Debating, Service Learning or Ironbark you would be hard pressed to find such a diverse array of opportunities anywhere else. In their lunches with me the Year 12s consistently remark that this world of opportunities that St Peters provides is something that they love about their College. Our approach to education both in and out of the classroom gives our students the opportunity to discover, try new things and succeed or fail and then learn and grow from their experiences. The breadth and depth of a St Peters education provide your children with the experiences, values, attitudes and learnings to go beyond what they previously thought they were capable of and become the person they were meant to be.
As we embark on Term 3 I encourage the fine young people of St Peters to engage with purposeful endeavour in their learning both in and beyond the classroom and challenge themselves to discover what they are truly capable of and who they are becoming.
My very best wishes to each of you for the term ahead.

The College Uniform
Since 1945, St Peters Lutheran College has valued its school uniform, serving as a means of common ground for students that unites them. Despite various changes over more than seven decades, the purpose of the College uniform has always been to enable students to develop a sense of belonging and connectedness to St Peters as a unique educational and faith community.
Wearing the uniform is important in establishing and building our culture. A strong culture of wearing our uniform proudly supports a school environment that has; a strong sense of community, is committed to the pursuit of excellence and where student ownership of their learning and behaviour is important. The uniform serves to establish the College’s expectations of students and students’ expectations of themselves. When dressed to a high standard, students’ choices reflect those high standards. It also teaches self-discipline and instils self-respect.
The College is conservative in its approach to the Student Dress Code reinforcing our values of care, dignity and respect. The uniform is designed to create a sense of individual and collective pride in students and their identification within the College
When following the Student Dress Code and wearing the uniform correctly, the roots of self-discipline automatically start growing into their character. This prepares them for situations in adulthood where they have to dress a certain way, such as in an interview or formal meeting.
Wearing the uniform correctly is an expectation for all students enrolled at the College. The school uniform draws attention to our College, and great care should be taken to ensure it is always worn to a high standard, is kept clean, neat, repaired and replaced, as necessary.
We ask all students to reflect on what it means to be a member of the St Peters Lutheran College community, to remember who they represent when they are wearing the College uniform and to ensure that they are always wearing it with pride.

In this edition of SchoolTV - RESILIENCE
Resilience is one of those skills that all kids need and should have. It refers to their ability to cope and adapt in situations when confronted with challenges such as adversity, trauma, tragedy or even stress. It is essential to their mental health and wellbeing as part of their journey to adulthood. It is a skill that can be learned from an early age through the support of an adult role model.
However, being resilient does not mean your child won't experience any difficulties, but it will better equip them to manage those situations. Over-protective parenting can be viewed as being unhelpful towards the building of resilience. Although this may be a natural instinct, potentially experiencing failure is all part of the process. Encouraging children to take healthy risks will help them trust their capacity to deal with uncomfortable situations and increase their capacity for courage.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will gain an understanding of how to support their child’s brave behaviour to help them adapt and build resilience.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Primary Years
Welcome to Semester 2
I am delighted to welcome you to Semester 2. I look forward to a productive and happy semester with the students and staff and to our continued partnership with you the parents and caregivers in the Primary Years.
Semester 2 always brings about some changes in timetable for Upper Primary students. Years 5C and 5D will be introduced to MEBS which is always a highlight, and several other changes for specialist days have also taken place.
Full winter uniform continues to be required in Term 3 and the formal uniform for Upper Primary including formal hats and blazers (with ties and long trousers for boys) is required each Monday and Wednesday, while Lower Primary require their formal uniform on Wednesdays.
I am sure you will join me in warmly welcoming the following staff to St Peters Primary Years:
Miss Hannah Lipman – 4C Class teacher Mrs Chelsey Eunson – Early Years Music Specialist Mrs Kellie Bannah – Exceptional Learners Department (Lower Primary) Miss Alanah Miles – Acting Deputy Head Upper Primary
I know that you welcome these staff members to the Primary Years community and to their new roles with your support and encouragement.
We are delighted to also welcome four new students and their families to the Primary Years and we look forward to working with you in partnership and community.
A reminder of the upcoming ICAS tests and the Australian Mathematics Competition in Term 3. Additional information can be accessed via Firefly HERE.
Before and After School Arrangements
To address the increasing number of students who remain on campus after school hours, we kindly request your cooperation in reviewing and adhering to the following expectations. We understand the importance of providing a safe and supervised environment for all students and we appreciate your understanding and support in ensuring their wellbeing.
Outside Hours School Care (OSHC) Facility
If your circumstances require additional supervision and your child is not in any official, adult-supervised activities, I strongly encourage you to utilise the OSHC facility. This will ensure their safety and allow them to engage in appropriate activities under proper supervision.
Use of Play Equipment and Ovals
To ensure adequate supervision, we kindly ask that students who are not utilising the OSHC facility refrain from playing on any play equipment or using the ovals in the Primary Years. This restriction is in place to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of our students.
Departure Time
Unless involved in an official, adult supervised activity, day students are expected to leave the school premises by 3:30pm. This ensures a smooth transition and allows us to maintain a secure environment for all students.
Early Arrival
We have noticed that some Lower Primary students arrive at the College before 8:00am. As the official supervision commences at 8:00am, we kindly request that students who arrive before this time (unless they are attending a supervised activity) make use of the Before School Care service. This ensures appropriate supervision and care for their wellbeing until regular school hours commence.
We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and understanding in following these expectations. Our primary goal is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for all students and your support is essential in achieving this. If you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the school administration. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

FIREBIRDS COACH REBECCA BULLEY VISITS ST PETERS NETBALL
There was a buzz around the courts on Monday as we welcomed the current Queensland Firebirds coach Rebecca Bulley. Bec a former Diamond who represented Australia in 42 international games playing WD, GD and GK ran two sessions working with our girls on specialist defence.
She broke down defence into:
Going for intercepts
One v one contested ball
A good body angle to position your head to see the ball
Big hands over every ball
Deny and delay opposition players next move
Bec spoke to the girls about her career where persistence and hard work were her trademarks. Bec was well known as a reliable defender playing in the ANZ Championships for a decade, holding the distinction of being the first player to win three ANZ Championships with three different teams, the NSW Swifts (2008), Adelaide Thunderbirds (2013) and Queensland Firebirds (2014).
Thank you to the Netball PSG for sponsoring these sessions.

Such wonderful opportunities for our rowers wouldn’t exist without their amazing work, the team effort is greatly appreciated.
Training Attendance
As we move quickly to the start of the regatta season with Regatta #1 on Saturday 22 July, it is important that families please ensure girls are attending all training sessions, particularly on the water, in preparation for racing. BSRA Regatta 3# – St Peters Hosting Saturday 5 August
The 2023 BSRA Regatta #3 is on Saturday 5 August and is being hosted by the St Peters Rowing Parent Support Group.

The hosting of this event is a large logistical undertaking facilitated by the Rowing Parent Support Group to ensure we take full advantage of this fundraising opportunity. Please could I ask all families to make themselves available to assist with bake sale items, lolly bags and drink donations the week before the Regatta and to plan to be at the regatta on Saturday 5 July to help.

Council Notice to Members of the Community
A notice to the community that over the coming term Council Inspectors will be conducting patrols around the College to promote safe parking and ensure that motorists are complying with local traffic conditions. Parking fines may be issued in cases where illegal parking is observed.
While it is certainly not Council’s intention to make parking near schools an overly onerous task, regulating parking activities is necessary to promote safe driving during pick up and drop off times.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask that parents, guardians and visitors to visit Council’s website at www.brisbane.qld.gov.au and search parking rules to learn more about parking in Brisbane.
