With Winter fixtures in full flight, this week we are heading into our Round 4 fixtures against St Margaret's. The draws are placed on the St Peters App so please take the time to have a good look at these if you are unsure of the fixture details. At the end of last week, girls were asked to sign up for Junior Softball and Badminton (an email has been sent to all girls asking them to sign up for Badminton (Years 7 - 12) and Junior Softball (Years 7 - 9 only)). We ask all girls who are interested in these sports to use the links provided in the email and fill out the form attached to submit their interest to play. These can be done in conjunction with their current winter sports. As trials for each of these sports start more information will be emailed to all girls who have signed up.
Rhythmic Gymnastics
Coordinator: Phoebe Anderson
Good luck to all our Rhythmic Gymnasts competing on Friday 9 August, at the QGSSSA competition. We know that all girls have been working hard for the last 13 weeks and we hope they all enjoy the competition day as the culmination of their hard work. The draw for the day and all competitor’s information is on the St Peters App.
A reminder that the bus departs promptly at 6:30am tomorrow morning. All girls should arrive at the St Peters bus stop at 6:15am so we can get away in time for warm up. Buses will also return to school from MBC. We hope all our gymnasts can then join us for the end of season celebration to be held in the Staff Common Room (at the back of Cafe 45) from 3.30pm - 5.30pm.
Finally, we would like to thank our coordinator Mrs Phoebe Anderson for all the amazing work she has done for the Rhythmic Gymnastics program again in 2019 including coaching and coordinating the design of the routines. We could not do it without her organisation and behind the scenes efforts.
Good luck girls!
Hockey
Coordinator: Mr Cameron Glass
Facing Brisbane State High was always a tough challenge and especially given the traditional strength they show in Hockey. Whilst it is always good to aim to win, on occasion you need to forget the scoreboard and seek positives in other facets of the game. We played some smart, tough hockey and the girls should be proud of their efforts.
We wish all teams every success in Round 4 against St Margaret’s. Please check the St Peters App for all details of game times.
Netball
Coordinator: Mrs Anne-Marie Champion
Round 3 v BSHS was a tough round of Netball with a many of our teams coming up against much bigger and stronger opponents. Last year we won two games, this year we won five games. Congratulations to our Opens team on another strong performance, they are off to a great start this season! Our 7C White, 9B & 9C teams had solid wins as did our 7B team, winning easily by 39. A special mention to our Senior B team, their improvement from the beginning of the season has been amazing, and their spirit shown last weekend for a tough game was fantastic to see – well done Girls.

Tennis
Coordinator: Mrs Deborah Wilson
Tennis in Round 3 was a great mix of nail-biting rallies and learning experiences. Our Opens team pulled off a stunning win against BSHS and should be congratulated for their fighting spirit. All our other teams played incredibly well against this tough competition and should be proud of their efforts as well. A reminder this week we play on Friday night against St Margaret’s.
Volleyball
Coordinator: Mr Joshua Singh
Round 3 of the QGSSSA Competition brought us to State High and MBC, where the Volleyball girls should be very proud! Only losing two games last weekend, a huge congratulation goes to the 7A, 8A, 9A, 10A, 10B, Snr A, Snr B3 and Opens who won. Sadly, State High would like to play the 7B and 8B games a little later.
A special mention goes to Ella R (Year 11) for her focus on gameplay, serving runs, reading the ball well and her receiving and offence and Rachael B, who is new to the sport and had more than a dozen kills, great energy which drove the team to be the best they can be.
Team of the Week:
- Juilet W (7A)
- Lily C (8A)
- Rachael B (9A)
- Sonia M (9B)
- Kianga B (10A)
- Ally M (10B)
- Catherine V(OPENS)
- Ella R (SNR A)
- Estella B (SNR B1)
Opens Report
With a convincing win over Somerville last week, the girls continued to train hard, especially knowing this would be a very tough match. In a thrilling five-set match, the girls worked hard throughout it all. With coming back from eight points down, they closed the gap between them and State High but were unable to finish the first set off losing 24-26. Their energy picked up and after making a few changes to the rotations and took the second set. They continued this energy into the third set and won. St Peters began to lose their energy rapidly as State High were not giving up easily. The girls dropped their intensity during fourth set which led to a BSHS win of (18-25). The girls were not ready to give up. They fought hard through every point eventually winning (15-13). This now positions them in the top four teams in the comp. Congratulations to Catherine V who was rewarded MVP of the match. Catherine is one of the key players to this team and this game was no different. She steadied the team with her passing and serving. She was able to make quick and smart decisions in attack, winning critical points for the team. Congratulations to Catherine and the rest of the Opens Team.
A reminder to all girls particularly Year 7 who are arriving in other jumper/track pants. Whilst we understand it's cold, can we please ensure that ALL St Peters students arrive in either their playing uniform or St Peters jackets and track pants. It was disappointing to see a few girls arriving early morning in random clothing. Please be mindful that on the weekends, we are on show and representing the College.
Rowing
Coordinator: Mr Peter Hicks
It was a fantastic Saturday for the Rowing girls at Wyaralong Dam with all crews improving in both times across their respective distances as well as placings within the competition. Congratulations must be made to the following individuals and crews who achieve top three positions within their divisions.
- Year 8 Second Quad – Megan B, Robyn M, Brie D, Isabel M and Maya N – Silver medal and second place
- Year 9 Single Sculler Giselle G – Bronze Medal and Third place
- Year 10 Sculler Ella H – Bronze medal and Third Place
It has been pleasing to note the significant improvements across all crews within the Rowing program over the past fortnight and I are looking forward to continuing to see improvements across all of the crews as the program leads into Head of the River which is on August 31.
If you would like to know more information about the St Peters Rowing Program, please contact Peter Hicks, Head of Rowing via p.hicks@stpeters.qld.edu.au.
2019 QGSSSA Track & Field
Coordinator: Mr Shaun Nodwell
This Friday 9 August is our first QGSSSA Track & Field lead-up meet. Girls have been sent an email asking them to sign up for this meet. All girls who wish to be considered for the 2019 Track & Field team must be in attendance (unless otherwise arranged with Mr Nodwell or Girls Sport).
For those new to the QGSSSA Track & Field lead-up meets, these take place every Friday afternoon and evening for the remainder of the term. We will bus the girls out to UQ and ask parents to pick their daughters up directly from the UQ track (we will arrange for boarders to get home). Each week the events are slightly changed and so it is important that girls check the schedule of events, which can be found on the St Peters App so they can plan which events they would like to do for the evening. All girls wishing to be considered for a relay sport need to run an individual 100m each week. Team selection for all track and field events is made from the times and distances recorded at these meets
If you have any questions regarding these fun meets at UQ please come and see us in Sports House for more information. We are aiming for 80 girls out at UQ this week and are very close to achieving it so please encourage your daughter to come along.
We hope you have a great week in sport!
