This week at the College we celebrated Multicultural Week. COVID-19 restrictions meant that we had to do it in innovative ways. The Parade of Nations was still the highlight.

Multiculturalism is not a recent phenomenon at St Peters. St Peters has been a multicultural community right from its earliest days and it has been part of our DNA and who we are as a community over the past 75 years. In the College’s 50-year history book Upon This Rock, there is a phrase that I particularly love – it says, ‘St Peters was multicultural before the word was invented’. An article in the 1956 The Review (College yearbook) records the members of the Sub-Senior (Year 11) class ‘hail from New Guinea, the United States, England, Fiji, and Germany, and not to mention good old Queensland. Our illustrious ping-pong champion from Timor has alas left us for greener pastures.’ In those formative years, St Peters had lots of students from PNG – both PNG nationals and those that were called ‘mission kids’ – the children of Lutheran Missionaries who were working in PNG. In 1957, 63 out of 250 boarders were from PNG. The PNG influence helped to make the St Peters community a diverse one – which was unusual for its time. We should not forget either the important influence that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, initially from Hope Vale in far north Queensland, but over time from other parts of our country, have had and contributed to the multicultural make up of St Peters.

This multicultural diversity at St Peters has continued right up until the present day. The St Peters of today has been referred to as a mini United Nations. We have 71 nationalities at St Peters. St Peters is a shining example of what it means to be a multicultural community. We give practical expression to what it means to be multicultural and we live it every day.

Each of us should be proud of where we come from, and celebrate our culture. We should be equally proud of our shared identity of being part of the St Peters community. Our College is a success story for multiculturalism. Boys and girls, men and women of all manner of cultures learning and working together, side by side – reflecting the theme for this year’s Multicultural Week, ‘Many Nations, One Family’.

We owe this diversity of community, and its enduring success to those foundations established in the formative years of the College. Each of us should guard the College’s legacy of multiculturalism strongly. We do this by embracing the diversity of backgrounds and cultures at our College by treating all with Care, Dignity and Respect; whilst at the same time supporting and buying into the history, values, traditions and identity of our great College. 

The 1960 The Review editorial notes that 'surely colour is not as important as character! Here at St Peters, virtually isolated from the outside world with its racial strife, we try to set an example …. for boys and girls of many nationalities live here together as a community. There is a fellowship between students which overrules any national and racial differences. It is to be hoped that this spirit will always prevail within our school, and that our example will always be a Christian one in this respect.’

As we celebrate 2020 Multicultural Week may this always be true of life here at St Peters.

St Peters Lutheran College is a school of the Lutheran Church of Australia, which operates across this continent through congregations, schools, aged care centres, and so on. Whenever a pastor who serves in one of these contexts leaves, the local community with, the guidance of their bishop, explores options for replacement and then issues a call to a Pastor whom they believe to bring the qualities they need at this time.

This recently happened in the Living Word Lutheran Congregation in Ashmore on the Gold Coast. Subsequently, they issued the call to Pastor Michael Mayer to come and be their Pastor. Pastor Michael has accepted that call and therefore will be leaving our community at the end of Term 3 to take up the new posting. Pastor Michael has been a Pastor/Chaplain at our College for the past nine years and served on College Council before that for nearly 10 years.

I’m sure you will join with me in thanking Pastor Michael for his ministry amongst us here at St Peters and pray for his work amongst the people of Ashmore. Feel free to wish him well when you see him around. There will of course be an official farewell at the end of the term.

Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you (Hebrews 13:17).

We’ve all seen 'The Corona Rant'. You know the one where someone is aggrieved and aggressive in their refusal to comply with coronavirus restrictions. Sometimes spontaneous, but often rehearsed, these pandemic protagonists object to directives from state health departments designed to reduce the spread of the virus. People take issue with having their freedoms curtailed. Governments are accused of infractions from overstepping their powers to introducing a police state. 

Every person must decide how they respond. Either we stay home when we are sick or we don’t. We wear a mask when advised to or we don’t. We comply with travel restrictions or we don’t. We adhere to lockdowns or we don’t. We have the choice to comply or not to comply. Having a ‘tanty’ is one option, one that might feel good, but is not terribly edifying for anyone. 

God gives us a vocation as citizens of our country. We have an obligation to serve each other as citizens. That means accepting the authority of government for the sake of our society and for our own good. When we object, oppose and obstruct it makes it harder for those simply doing their jobs to do them safely and effectively, and this has no benefit for us. When we support by submitting to government authority, our leaders are free to make the difficult decisions that keep us safe. The choice we make can turn the work our leaders do into a joy or a burden. 

Submission is not a popular word. It makes us feel we are missing out, as though we are losing something we are entitled to. Jesus submitted to his Father’s will. He let go of his desires and did the will of his Father, even at the cost of his life. In the Garden of Gethsemane he prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will,” (Matthew 26:39). The result of Jesus’ humble submission was his death and his resurrection and the redemption of the whole word. 

In Jesus we find the strength and the humility we need to serve by submitting. In Jesus we see a greater good than our own personal short-term comfort.

What are you going to do when you finish school?  It’s a question many students dread because they haven’t worked it out yet.  

The wisdom of King Solomon tells us, “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)

As our students plan their futures, especially our Year 12s making plans for their life after school, it is so reassuring that God gives his help and support, guiding our students into the future he has planned for them.  Our plans don’t always work out the way we want, but take comfort that God’s plan for us is always better than ours!

Did you know?

The Blue Card system is changing from 31 August 2020 with a 'No Card, No Start' policy.

This means that paid employees and volunteers must hold a current Blue Card / Exemption Card or be issued with a Blue Card before commencing work at the College.

This does not apply to Teachers with current QCT Registration/Nurses with NMBA Registration.

If you are interested in working at our College, you may wish to consider how your application will affect your suitability for a position as holding a current Blue Card prior to commencing is an inherent requirement of all roles (excluding Teaching/Nursing)

Volunteers in our Community

Further to our last update, we would like to confirm that there is no requirement for parents to hold a Blue Card / Exemption Card while volunteering at the College (with the exception of if you are participating in a homestay, which falls under a separate category and has additional obligations). This extends to volunteering at events that are off site or outside of normal school hours (e.g: sports, a weekend activity) provided that it is connected with the College and your child is a current student.

Other family members (e.g: Grandparent, Aunty/Uncle, Godparent etc) may be required to obtain a volunteer blue card if they are volunteering in a child-related setting for more than 7 days in total in a calendar year (regardless of whether this is in a row or not and regardless of if this is at St Peters or not).

It is a compliance requirement that all employees/volunteers/independent contractors who are required to hold a Blue Card/Exemption Card are linked to the College and this can be done by providing details of their Blue Card / Exemption Card to People & Culture.

Since 1945, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA)has brought Australian children and books together by promoting quality literature for young Australians and celebrating Australian children’s writers, illustrators and titles.

Highlighting the importance of reading, the CBCA Book Week is traditionally held during Week 6 of Term 3 but in 2020, the celebrations have been officially postponed across Australia to mid-October, due to the COVID pandemic.

This year, Book Week’s theme is 'Curious Creatures, Wild Minds' and the Langer Library is celebrating the event by hosting all sorts of curious creatures and organising movies and activities during lunch time. Come and check it out!

Notables and Short-Listed titles nominated for the CBCA Book of the Year Award in both the Younger Readers and Older Readers categories are promoted to Junior High (Years 7–9) students during our fortnightly BookSurf Programme and are available for borrowing at the Langer Library. Can you predict which one will be the 2020 Book of the Year?

Science Week in UP

Last week was an exciting week for our Upper Primary students as they experienced a myriad of science experiments and activities. It was wonderful to have some of the teachers and students from the senior school come and support our younger students. They set out a number of activities to participate in during lunchtimes including an experiment demonstrating how insulation works, such as in blubber for sea animals. There was a great al-foil boat making competition where the design of the boat was imperative as the boat that could carry the most weight won. The ancient art of origami, paper folding, was also on offer.

We are very lucky at St Peters, as we have our very own ‘David Attenborough’! Griffin, a Year 6 student, is extremely knowledgeable about many things science. Griffin led a nature walk to the school rainforest where a variety of wildlife was photographed. Griffin is going to collate the findings, classify them and present the findings at assembly this week. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to take a small group of interested students to the school rainforest and enjoy this very special corner of our campus.

Three-way conferences

At the end of this term, we will be holding three-way conferences for all students in the Primary Years. These conferences will be in lieu of our usual student-led conferences.

Three-way conferences will provide an opportunity for students, parents and teachers to meet to discuss student learning and plan goals for the coming term. Here is how the Primary Years Programme define three-way conferences:

“Three-way conferences involve the student, parents and teacher. Students discuss their learning and understanding with their parents and teacher, who are responsible for supporting the student through this process. Students are responsible for reflecting upon work samples they have chosen to share, that have been previously selected with guidance and support from the teacher and could be from the student’s portfolio. The student, parents and the teacher collaborate to establish and identify the student’s strengths and areas for improvement. This may lead to the setting of new goals, with all determining how they can support the achievement of the goals. The teacher is an integral part of the process and takes notes of the discussion. These notes may then be used in the written report. All of the participants must understand the format and their roles prior to the conference.”  (Making the PYP Happen, 2009)

The goals of three-way conferences are:

• to help students demonstrate evidence of learning
• to teach students the process of reflection and self-evaluation
• to facilitate the development of students' organisational and oral communication skills and to increase their self-confidence
• to encourage students, parents, and teachers to engage in open and honest dialogue
• to encourage students to accept personal responsibility for their learning
• to increase parent understanding of their child’s learning through improving attendance at and satisfaction with the reporting process.

Importantly, three-way conferences develop the PYP Learner Attributes in our students through allowing them to:

• Be inquirers by asking questions
• Be knowledgeable by sharing information
• Be communicators by expressing thoughts and ideas
• Be balanced by considering themselves, academically and socially
• Be risk-takers by trying new ideas or strategies
• Be caring by being genuinely interested
• Be thinkers by making decisions
• Be open-minded by respecting different points of view
• Be principled by being honest and fair
• Be reflective by thinking about strengths and weaknesses

This year, conferences will only be available with classroom teachers. If you wish to speak to any of your child’s specialist teachers, please contact them directly. Students will spend time preparing for these conferences in class and will be keen to discuss their learning with you and their teacher so please prioritise this event.

Bookings for three-way conferences will be done via the usual online booking system. Further details will be sent through shortly about these specifics. We look forward to sharing this important occasion with you in the coming weeks.

Kiss and Go at Prep and Lower Primary

At St Peters, the wellbeing and safety of our students is always foremost in our minds. I note that there have been incidents in other schools and public areas where this safety has been compromised, and injury has occurred; so this is to remind you of the expectations of you as parents/guardians when entering our Kiss and Go areas, so that this safety can be maximised.

• The road from Lambert Road and drop-off/pick-up area is a 10 kilometre an hour area.
• Enter the Kiss and Go areas cautiously and slowly and watch for instructions from our staff.
• Parents/Guardians are not to exit their vehicle at any time.
• Students should be entering and exiting the car on the passenger side of the vehicle where at all possible. I appreciate with baby seats/capsules this is not always ideal, however our staff/volunteers must remain on the left-hand side of the approaching vehicle/s for their own safety.
• If possible, your child’s school bag and hat are should be placed on the floor at the feet of your child in the car. This way the staff/volunteers are not having to open the boot which again puts them at risk.
• Ensure you are aware of your car’s capabilities. Be aware of how to open the passenger door locks and how to put down the passenger window in case a staff member needs to communicate with you.
• Please ensure your foot is firmly on the brake and your car is in the park position when dropping or collecting your child.
• Parents/Guardians are not permitted to reverse unless instructed by staff.
• If family members/friends are collecting on your behalf, they also need to be aware of these expectations.
• Your family signs are important for the smooth operation of the facilities. Make sure they are visible for staff to see.

I am sure you would all agree that our Kiss and Go facilities are important and useful additions to our service to you. The safety of everyone; staff, students and families, is paramount. However, during these busy drop off and pickups time we need to be extra vigilant, so we appreciate your support in making these areas secure for all.

PROUD MOMENTS

On Saturday evening I had the pleasure of attending the Performer of the Year 2020 Recital. The quality of the performances was outstanding, and it must have been an incredibly difficult job for the adjudicators to choose a winner.  Special mention to our two Year 7 finalists, Sylvia D and Mulan M, who held their own against older performers. It will be a pleasure to watch these students continue to develop their craft over the next few years.

TRAVELLING TO SCHOOL

Students are reminded that when in uniform they are representing the College and should always treat others with courtesy and respect. This particularly applies to students using public transport to and from school. The College supports Translink’s expectation that ‘school students give up their seats to adults who are standing’.

It is also our preference that students walking to school up Harts Road cross at the safety crossing as it is much safer than crossing at the roundabout.

If your child rides his/her bike to school, I would ask that they dismount once they reach the Harts Road entrance and walk their bike through the College grounds to the bike rack.

STUDY & ASSESSMENT

It’s the time of term when assessment is at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

For most students, their homework over the coming weeks is to revise for their exams or to complete assignment work. 

A great website to assist with identifying appropriate study techniques is http://vark-learn.com/the-vark-questionnaire/. Here students can determine the way they best learn – visual, read/write, aural, kinaesthetic, and multi-modal. Study strategies can be found on the questionnaire drop down section of the site. 

Music Lessons and Exams

The College requires Music lessons to be rescheduled if they occur at the same time as an exam.  Students are told well in advance when their exams will occur and I would ask parents to assist them with rescheduling their music lessons.

Illness

‘Special Consideration’ is available for students who have been ill in the lead up to or on the day of assessment.  However, the College asks that applications for Special Consideration be accompanied by a Medical Certificate or other appropriate support material.  If a student is absent on the day of an exam we ask that a Medical Certificate be provided. If they are absent on the day an assignment is due, they are still expected to make every effort to submit the assignment, either in hard copy or electronically.  https://stpeters.fireflycloud.net.au/junior-high-curriculum/subject-forms

Injury or other conditions

‘Special Provisions’ are available for students who have injuries or other medical conditions/requirements.  Special Provisions are usually applied for prior to the due date because the condition is known about in advance.

STUDENT SAFETY AND OUT OF BOUNDS

I’d like to remind Junior High students that there are a number of areas around the school which are out-of-bounds outside of class time.  It is impossible to list them all, but a safe rule of thumb is that if a teacher has not directed you to go to a particular area or a duty teacher is not in the near vicinity and can see you – then you probably shouldn’t be there. Out-of-bounds areas for Junior High students are as follows:

• All classrooms and buildings – unless under the direct supervision or permission of a staff member. 
• Performing Arts Centre - Students should only be in the PAC if making their way to an activity.  They should not be gathering in groups, playing or eating lunch in the foyers or rooms. The Theatrette and Auditorium are strictly out-of-bounds unless supervised. Walkways on the eastern side of the building and loading dock are also out-of-bounds.
• Toilets in the PAC are not to be used as change rooms unless specific permission has been given to access the accessible toilet.
• Boarding Buildings
• Carparks, Internal Bus stop and Roadways
• Ovals – unless supervised ('no hat, no play' rule also applies)
• P&F building and surrounds

At St Peters we value the safe community we have and our ability to trust our students to know the difference between right and wrong. Having a safe school is a ‘right’ of everyone in our community, but also comes with responsibility.

ILLNESS OR APPOINTMENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY

The College has a duty of care to contact a student’s parent and establish the whereabouts of a student during any unexplained absence.

If a student is unwell during the school day:

• they must report to Junior High Reception (students are not to contact parents directly); and
• they will be sent to the Health Centre where staff will assess their condition and decide if they can continue at school; if not, parents will be contacted.

Junior High students being picked up during the school day must sign out at Reception and wait on campus to be collected e.g. College Bus Stop. Students leaving campus must be in formal school uniform at all times.

R U OK? Day

On Thursday 10 September, students in Junior High will be showing their support for R U OK? Day. Students are allowed to wear yellow embellishments with their formal uniform – ribbons, socks etc. More information will be available closer to the date but I encourage students to get organised and support this important awareness day.

This week Mrs Thomas’s Year 7 Science class was a hive of activity, all responding to their Magical Mixtures challenge with great enthusiasm. It was exciting to see their inventive ideas on how to separate various substances.

Declan, Gemma, Mariah and Rylan are investigating alternate methods of water purification, while Claire, Heather and Amelia are designing a more effective face mask that deters transmission of pathogens.

Olivia, Luc, Thomas and Hamish are using a bicycle tyre to produce a centrifugal force to separate cornstarch, while Ameya, Sophie, Natalie and Henry are utilising a lettuce spinner to solve the same problem.

Olive, Lily and Sarah are designing an alternate washing machine that maximizes removal of dirt, while Grace, Paige, Owen and Ellawynne are investigating alternate methods of sugar extraction from sugar cane.  Innovation at its best!

Year 12 Parent Valedictory Function | Cancelled

Unfortunately, due to social distancing and venue restrictions, the Year 12 Parent Valedictory Function will not go ahead this year.

As we all adjust to new conditions in this Covid climate, our Year 12 IB examinations are not left untouched. After being forced to cancel the International Baccalaureate’s May 2020 examination session (for the Northern Hemisphere), the subsequent final scores were awarded final scores based on predicted grades, internal assessment and historical data modelling. In response to this unprecedented action, IB World Schools collectively questioned the grade awarding methodology and this has since been modified, with scores being revised and reissued recently.

For us in the Southern Hemisphere, we hold firm to the reassurance that the November 2020 examinations will go ahead as scheduled. There have been a few adjustments made, most significantly, the cancellation of the Language B Listening paper. Year 12 IB students have been working hard to complete their mock examinations over the past fortnight and should be commended on their strong work ethic and positive spirit. They are a resilient bunch, and we are looking forward to celebrating with them on their completion of the Diploma.

For your chance to see your artwork appear in the 75th Anniversary Review, enter the 2020 Art Competition.

Students should create an artwork corresponding to any of these themes: The College (general), Primary Years, Junior High, Senior School, Boarding, Sport, Music, other cocurricular activity, a College event, a College subject.

Artwork should be presented on an A4 or A3 sized piece of paper/canvas. Artwork should be unique and created by hand (using pencils, crayons, markers, collage, paint etc). Excessive use of text (words, sentences) in drawings is discouraged.

Attached to the back of the artwork and in clear print should be the student’s name, age, year level, and a school email address. Please note that entries with illegible or missing information will not be considered.

To enter the competition, please submit your hard copy art work to Communications Department, Review Art Competition at your sub-school reception. Alternatively, hand deliver to Ross Roy.

The closing date is Friday 16 October (COB). Entries postmarked after this date will not be entered in the competition.

Entries will be judged by the Communications Department, the Art Department and Tim Kotzur, Head of College. Eight winners in total will be chosen.

Each winner will receive a $30 Amazon gift voucher PLUS their artwork will be published in the 75th anniversary Review.

Winners will be contacted, via the email address supplied, before the end of Term 4, 2020.

All artwork will happily be returned to the artist before the end of Term 4, 2020.

AIC Football

AIC Football Training will be on Wednesday afternoons, 3:30pm – 5:00pm on Stolz Oval. AIC Football training will continue Wednesday 2/9, 9/9.

AIC Football Games will continue on Saturday 29/8, 5/9 and 12/9.

AIC Rugby

Rugby training will be on Wednesday afternoons (3:30pm – 5:00pm) and Friday afternoons (3:30pm – 4:30pm). All training will be on Mayer Oval. 

AIC Rugby Games will continue on Saturday 29/8, 5/9 and 12/9.

AIC Chess

AIC Chess will be played in the second half of Term 3. Games will be played against other AIC Schools on Friday afternoons/evenings on a HOME and AWAY basis. St Peters will provide transport for players to and from the all AWAY games throughout the Term. Games are 20 mins per player with two matches being played each week.

The Season concludes on Friday 11 September.

If your son is interested in playing Chess for St Peters, training is on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30pm to 6:30pm in the St Peters P&F Centre (building above Mayer Oval) with our qualified Chess coaches.

Girls Club Netball

St Peters will play a shortened eight week season throughout Term 3. Training will be held on Wednesday afternoon (3:30pm – 5:00pm at Harts Road Courts). WDNA has updated their website with the eight week season draws.

As per email sent to all WDNA families today, ALL GAMES this weekend have been suspended.

Primary Years Athletics

All interested Year 4, 5 and 6 students are invited to attend Primary Years Athletics training on Monday afternoons on Stolz (Lower Primary) Oval. Details for the training sessions can be found below:

Students are to meet coaches at the Lower Primary Undercroft each week. Students will practice sprinting, middle distance running, high jump, shot put and long jump.

Well done to all girls who represented St Peters last week in what was a tough weekend of Sport. In windy conditions the girls gave their best and represented the College with pride.

Moving forward this week, we ask parents to please read carefully the COVID-19 Site plans for each of our venues as we continue to allow one spectator per player, these can be found attached to the draw on the St Peters App. Some key points are below:

• ALL ADULTS MUST sign in / register on entry to the venue. Reminder – only one spectator per player allowed.
• ALL SPECTATORS/PLAYERS MUST sanitise / wash their hands when entering and then regularly whilst at the venue.

Well done to our Senior C, 10A, 8A, 7A, 7B and 7C teams who all had solid wins against the powerhouse of MBC on the weekend. In windy conditions the girls gave their all and I must mention our Open team who went down by eight goals in the end but what an outstanding high-level game of Netball. All games were great contests with many close results and more importantly played with the highest level of sportsmanship.

Our Saints Challenge Cup continued last Friday afternoon with again our Development girl’s attendance outstanding – particularly our Year 7 Girls. They continue to improve and learn from our amazing coaches and from having the opportunity to play more Netball – Well done Girls.

As we start to close in on the end of the season, last weekend we were up against MBC and Som House. A fantastic round where all teams either won or were very competitive. Round 6 Wrap v Moreton Bay College

Last week we played Hockey heavyweights Moreton Bay College in some hard-fought losses for the College. Impressively the Junior team only lost 3-0 despite only having 10 players for the entire game. They had a number of opportunities themselves but couldn’t quite capitalise. Pastor Michael praised Amelie and Zoe in particular for having great games. Seniors and Opens both had very frustrating losses. The frustration stemming for our own play which was littered with average passing and trapping. The girls felt it was a struggle to gain any momentum the entire game and spent large amounts of time running back to defend. Seniors lost 2-0 and Opens lost 6-0.

Round 6 Wrap v Moreton Bay College

A windy weekend of QG Tennis, not the greatest playing conditions but our girls played through securing a win for the Opens team and a draw for Senior A's. At UQ the Junior A and B teams played well with the Junior A's securing a personal best for number of games won in a round. Well done!

This week we are on home courts and the girls are putting in effort in training to continue to improve their fitness and develop their skills in preparation for the rest of the season. 

BSRA ROWING

Congratulations to the Rowing girls on competing in their penultimate Regatta before the 2020 Head of the River.  Last Saturday saw the girls compete in windy and challenging conditions at Wyaralong Dam which unfortunately brought the Regatta to an early conclusion. 

Congratulations to the Year 9 2nd Quad who achieve a fourth and a third place in their two races and to the Open 1st VIII who achieved an improved seventh place, only one second behind sixth place. 

This weekend sees the girls complete the BSRA season at the 2020 Head of the River, due to COVID restrictions, unfortunately supporters and parents cannot attend this Regatta though the BSRA has organised for the event to be lived streamed.  Please find link below to this live streaming if anyone from the community wishes to watch.

QGSSSA TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS – Thursday 17 September – 3 weeks away!!

What a fantastic turn out of more than 90 Track & Field athletes representing St Peters at the Sheldon College Invitational Meet last Friday evening. We will again be competing this Friday evening, 28 August at the second Sheldon College Invitational Meet.

It was exciting to see so many solid performances across all events, many personal best were recorded, and we are confident that this will continue this Friday night.

Details of the second of the Sheldon College Invitational Meet can be found on the St Peters App. Bus transport is available and all interested athletes are required to sign up, students have been emailed these details.

BWPI WATER POLO

St Peters play in the BWPI Water Polo Club Competition - Games are played at various venues around Brisbane on Saturdays in Term 4, 2020 & Term 1, 2021.

Water Polo Trial Dates - Sunday 30 August, Sunday 6 September & Sunday 13 September – details can be found on the St Peters App.

Training session times from U13 - Opens will commence at 7.00pm in the 50m pool. U12 training times to be advised.

There is a fee associated to playing Water Polo for St Peters and details of Term 4 training will be released very soon.

THANK YOU - We would like to thank Mrs Jenny Pavlides who has stepped down from coordinating Water Polo for St Peters due to gaining full time employment. Jenny has done an outstanding job leading our program for the last two years and we thank her very much for all her work.

We welcome back Mrs Elaine Ripamonti who will be looking after the Water Polo administration. Elaine has coordinated St Peters Water Polo for many years. We are also very pleased to announce that Tracey Bruce and her daughter Holly will be sharing the game/training day part of the coordinating role. Tracey is our much-loved St Peters Head Netball coach who along with Holly will support our players and coaches, both having many years’ experience involved with Water Polo. We are looking forward to an exciting 2020/2021 season ahead.

Sign on is underway, girls have been sent an email.

Years 7, 8 & 9 Girls Only - St Peters plays in the QGSSSA Junior Softball Competition in Term 4.

There are four game days played in the afternoon at Downey Park - Weeks 3 & 4 (approx. 1.00pm - 5.00pm).

Bus transport will be provided.

Trials will commence next Tuesday 1 September and will continue on Thursday 3 September, Tuesday 8 September, Thursday 10 September and Tuesday 15 September @ Hart Road Oval, 6.15am - 7.30am.

Training will then commence after the holidays in Week 1, further details can be found on the St Peters App.

AIC RUGBY & FOOTBALL SPECTATOR BEHAVIOUR & COVID PROTOCOLS

Now that we have been able to allow two (2) spectators per player at our AIC venues for Football (Harts Oval & Stolz) and Rugby (Mayer Oval), it is a good time to remind everyone of the expectations of our St Peters supporters and spectators.

Should you be attending this Saturday, we ask that everyone follows the following:

• ALL SPECTATORS MUST sign in / register on entry to the venue they are attending at St Peters. Reminder – only two (2) adult spectators per player allowed.
• ALL SPECTATORS MUST sanitize / wash their hands when entering and then regularly whilst at the venue.
• ALL SPECTATORS MUST abide by the social distancing (1.5m between spectators) guidelines both when moving around and sitting in the allocated and designated areas.
• We remind ALL SPECTATORS and STUDENTS who are attending any St Peters sporting events that they are representatives of our College and the manner which they conduct themselves is reflective of St Peters Lutheran College. We ask that all attending support and cheer with positive encouragement.

AIC Football, AIC Rugby and AIC Chess Fixtures Vs St Laurence’s College

Chess – Congratulations to St Peters Chess who won the day and were victorious against Iona College last Friday afternoon. We wish them great success tomorrow when they take on St Laurence’s College at home at St Peters Lutheran College.

Rugby – Well done to all our St Peters Rugby teams last Saturday against Iona College. It was fantastic to see our boys play with determination, pride and true grit. A special mention to the St Peters 2nd XV Rugby team and coaches who fought their way from behind to win 25-17.

Again, we ask all our Rugby community to check the St Peters App for details of this Saturday’s rugby games verse St Laurence’s College. This Saturday, St Peters Year 10-Open Rugby teams are at home at St Peters Lutheran College whilst our Years 6-9 Rugby teams are playing away.

Football – Our St Peters First XI Football team drew (1 -1) with Iona College last Saturday in what was a tight and tough football match. Overall, there were many positive and enthusiastic St Peters Football performances across all year levels last Saturday. Special mention to the following teams who also fought hard to secure a win or draw last Saturday – St Peters 2nd XI (1-0), 4th XI (2-1), 10A (0-0), 10B (17-1), and 10C (12-1).

Our Year 10-Open Football teams play at St Peters Lutheran College this Saturday whilst our Years 7-9 Football teams play away.

We encourage all boys and parents to please check the St Peters App for exact venue details and times of their Football match. 

AIC Track & Field 

Following a fantastic turn out of more than 90 St Peters athletes competing last Friday evening and Sheldon College, we will again be competing at our second invitational Track & Field lead up meet this Friday evening, 28 August. Once again, our many talented athletes will travel to the Sheldon College Athletics Facility to represent St Peters in multiple events across both track and field.

It was exciting and encouraging to see so many solid performances across all events in which our athletes competed in. Many personal best performances were recorded last Friday evening and we are confident that this too will be the case this Friday night.

The second of the Sheldon College Invitational Meets (Friday 28 August) will commence at 4.00pm and is scheduled to conclude by 7.00pm. Bus transportation is available, and all interested athletes are required to sign up for this meet.

Athletes are asked to check their student email account as details and sign on procedure has been emailed directly to each athlete earlier this week.

With the uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic a decision has been made to cancel the 2020 St Peters Ladies Lunch which was scheduled to be held at Hillstone, St Lucia on Friday 30 October.

If you were on a table of 10, the Table Captain has been advised and will contact you regarding reimbursement of your ticket.

Whilst this is disappointing, we are looking forward to the 2021 Ladies Lunch, scheduled for Friday 26 March.
