Blazers (Upper Primary, Junior High and Senior School)
Due to the continuing warm weather, the compulsory wearing of the College blazer will now be optional from Thursday, 29 August, until the end of term. If students are representing the College in a formal capacity, the blazer must be worn.
If cooler weather resumes before the end of the term, the first option for warmth is the College blazer.

Primary Years
Book Week in the Primary Years
Last week was Children’s Book Week, and the Primary Years was a hive of activity. Between enjoying this year’s CBCA Book of the Year shortlist during lesson time, a special Book Week Chapel service, Lower Primary Library’s Book Fair, competitions and lunchtime activities, and Woodrow Library’s fundraising project for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, this year’s theme of ‘Reading is Magic’ truly lived out its mantra. Whether critiquing in the role of judges or engaging in response-to-reading learning experiences, the utter joy of stories was the true star of the show.
Of course, the pinnacle of Children’s Book Week is our annual Dress Up Day, culminating in the Lower Primary’s Costume Walk. Supported by our enthusiastic staff and Year 6 Leaders, the spirit and excitement at this event were truly magical.
Another distinctive feature of Children's Book Week in the Primary Years is our focus on helping others access quality literature. This year, our Book Week fundraising project raised money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, a charity that publishes bilingual books for First Nations children living in remote communities. This year, we raised just over $1400.00. Families are invited to donate online using the following link, which will remain open until the end of August:
Thank you to our staff and students for participating in this much-loved calendar event. We’ll see you again for Children’s Book Week in 2025!

Primary Years Father's Day Breakfast
The Primary Years hosted its annual Father's Day Breakfast on Wednesday, a wonderful community event celebrating the vital role fathers, grandfathers, and father figures play in our students' lives. The morning was a great success, with families coming together to enjoy a delicious breakfast and coffee while spending quality time with one another.
Thank you to everyone who joined us to make the morning memorable, and a special shout-out to our amazing staff and student volunteers who helped bring this event to life.
We look forward to continuing this cherished tradition and celebrating the wonderful fathers and father figures in our community next year!

Welcome Morning – New Year 7 students for 2025
This week, on Friday, 30 August (the student-free day), we will hold our Year 7 2025 Welcome Morning. This significant annual event on the Junior High calendar allows our new students to demystify some of what their High School experience might look like. Up to 250 students confirmed for enrolment in Year 7 next year will be on campus for the morning. About 40% are currently enrolled in Year 6 at St Peters, while the remaining 60% of students are coming from more than 50 different schools across Brisbane, Australia and overseas.
The morning event will offer new students a range of information and the opportunity to participate in activities designed to help them get to know each other and meet key staff members and Year 7 Form Class teachers. They'll also enjoy a tour of the College and take part in a sample lesson from one of the Arts, Languages, Science or HPE curriculum areas. We extend our sincere thanks to the wonderful teachers at St Peters and the Student Leaders from Years 8, 9 and 11 for supporting Junior High by volunteering their time for this event. We look forward to welcoming the new students and hope they all have a positive experience on Friday.
Behavioural Concerns
As we enter the last weeks of the term, it is apparent that the overall standard of students’ behaviour is unfortunately showing signs of decline. The recent hot weather has not helped matters. The students are tired, often losing focus in class and not always showing positive engagement in their learning. The Care, Dignity and Respect they are expected to demonstrate in interactions with each other have not always been evident. Unkind and inappropriate comments to or about others appear to be on the rise – which is particularly disappointing following our recent focus on addressing and communicating the ‘anti-bullying’ message in Junior High Assemblies and in Pastoral Care lessons.
Undoubtedly, many students are feeling anxious or under pressure in relation to homework and assessment; relationships between classmates and friends are becoming frazzled at times; and most disappointingly, some students are showing disrespect to their teachers in class. It is at this time, therefore, that I urge our parents to spend time talking with their children and supporting them with suggestions and strategies that will enable them to better navigate these last few weeks of term positively. It is a time when personal character strengths such as perseverance and kindness must come to the fore. With only two weeks until the end of Term 3, we want these weeks to be productive and positive for our staff and our students.

Boys Weekly Sport
As our term begins to wrap up, with two Track and Field meets and two weekends of AIC fixtures left to play, warmer weather is fast approaching! This Saturday will feature temperatures in the mid-thirties, so it is vital that all young men are properly preparing themselves for fixtures for Round 6. Please ensure your son has a water bottle and is hydrating well in advance. Student safety is a priority, and coordinators and coaches will follow all AIC processes regarding extreme heat to ensure games can still proceed safely. Any known cancellations will be reported as soon as possible; however, all fixtures are proceeding at this stage. All the best for this weekend!
Congratulations and thank you
Earlier in Term 3, Hugo K (Year 10) was selected for the Japan U19 Cricket Team – Congratulations, Hugo!

Lucas and Matthew won a bronze medal as a rower in the U19 Men’s Double. Lucas coxed in the U19 Mixed Quad, winning bronze with Samuel and Flynn rowing in the boat.
Rugby League News
Saturday featured two wins for our Rugby League program, with our juniors and seniors recording victories. An incredible performance from the junior team to win their first game in the A division in their first year of Rugby League. After a difficult start, St Peters piled on three back-to-back tries to race out to a lead, which was never matched despite fatigue setting in and closing the gap at the end.
Seniors
St Peters raced out to an early lead off the back of three great long-range tries in what was a scrappy fixture. Heading into the main break, the score remained three tries to nil. A winning score at the end meant that the playing group belted out the team song, which could be heard as far as Ipswich, which marked our first official win in the AIC competition. Congratulations to all involved!
Tennis News
Congratulations to our AIC Tennis Teams on a successful round of matches last weekend. Punctuality to our matches this week was outstanding, and coaches are extremely happy with the preparation before our games. The competitiveness amongst the Years 7–9 boys has seen a marked improvement, and the boys should be congratulated on this.
Track & Field News
With over 50 students attending the first two meets and several PBs recorded, it was delightful to see the boys' performances over the past two weeks. Next week, our third meet will be on Thursday 5 September, hosted at the State Athletics Facility (SAF). All students involved are strongly encouraged to attend as many meets as possible. Students involved in the meet will depart from the internal bus bay at 2:40pm on 5 September. To sign up and reserve your spot on the bus, please CLICK HERE. Boys Rowing
It was an exciting weekend for six Senior Shed boys, who all competed in the Coastal Rowing and Beach Sprints Championships held at Mooloolaba. Sykes Racing provided modified racing shells designed for surf conditions for all athletes to compete across single, double and coxed quad categories. Coastal rowing is an up-and-coming variation to traditional flat water rowing and will be featured as an Olympic sport for the first time in Los Angeles in 2028. The races involve one of the crew sprinting down the beach to a boat being held by ‘boat holders’ (aka coaches), jumping in as quickly as possible and rowing (sprint style) out through a slalom of buoys to a large buoy around which a hard turn is made before a sprint back to the beach where one member of the crew jumps out, runs around a marker and dives on a buzzer that stops the clock. It is exhilarating, frantic, and huge fun, according to all the boys who competed and the contingent of parents who gathered on the beach. The boys competed in singles, doubles, mixed doubles and mixed quads (partnering with athletes from Korowa and Brigidine/Noosa Coastal Rowing).
Hearty congratulations to the following medallists:
U19 Mens Single: Sam M – Silver
U19 Double: Luca C and Matt J – Bronze
U19 Mens Double: Sam M and Flynn G – 4th
U19 Mixed Double: Sam M and Korowa Athlete – 4th
U19 Mixed Quad: Sam M, Flynn G and Brigidine athletes, Lucas C (cox) – Bronze
We look forward to all the boys defending their U19 success in 2025.
Helen Allard Rowing Coordinator

Rowing
The Girls Rowing Program concluded last Saturday with the BSRA Head of the River regatta at Wyaralong Dam. The weather was spectacular throughout the day, with very light winds and plenty of sunshine – perfect for racing. Congratulations go to our medallists Georgie P, who won the gold in the Year 8 single scull and Steph P, who won silver in the Year 10 single scull. The 1st VIII finished a creditable 5th by 0.20 seconds to St Hilda’s School – the best finish for a St Peters Open 8+ in many years. The 1st VIII included Mac B (Year 12), Poppy Y (Year 11), Steph P (Year 10), Bella B (Year 12), Tiare R (Year 12), Lily R (Year 10), Mia M (Year 10), Yoyo W (Year 10) and Remi C (Cox) (Year 10). Their result is even more outstanding, given how many girls are in Year 10. The future is very bright for this boat in the coming years.
Several crews will continue training over the next three weeks leading into the Queensland Schools State Championship Regatta from Saturday 14 September to Monday 16 September at the Queensland State Rowing Centre, Wyaralong Dam. Congratulations to the following crews who will be representing St Peters at States: First VIII, Senior 4, Year 9 First Quad, Year 9 Second Quad and Year 8 First Quad. We wish you all a successful campaign in a few weeks’ time.
