So much has happened in Girls Sport since the last instalment of the sports Rock article, the mind boggles.
Over the holidays and in the crux of the end of Term 3, Girls Sport busily flourished and competed in many and various sporting activities. Perhaps one of the most exciting events could arguably have been the QGSSSA Track & Field Championships whereby St Peters finished an incredible overall third position only two points shy of second and with coordinators noting many top athletes missing for a variety of reasons. A very impressive achievement it was as the girls fought hard to throw, jump and run against what is said to be the most talented collection of female school athletes in the state across many disciplines.
At the end of Term 3 our Winter Fixtures for 2019 came to an end with some very pleasing final results. Our 7A, 10B and Opens Volleyball team and our 10B Netball team won Premierships, with our 7A and 10B Volleyball team remaining undefeated all season. The 8A, Senior A and 10A Volleyball teams also placed second which, is a fantastic result. Special mention must also go to our Opens Tennis team, who narrowly lost to St Aidans in Round 9 to finish an admirable second.
Over the school holidays we had many things happening in sport. A big thank you to Mrs Anne-Marie Champion for taking our netballers to the state Vicki Wilson Cup. Mr Peter Hicks also guided our rowers to great performances at the State Rowing Championships over the holidays. Our Tennis teams also competed in the Rockhampton QLD Secondary School Team Tennis. Our girl’s teams were runner up in this championship. Congratulations also to Isabelle P who competed in the national Track & Field QLD Team and won a gold medal in the 4 x 100m finals. Finally, Mrs Jenny Pavlides for all her work in selecting and training our Water Polo teams in readiness for their first round of competition this weekend. Without such dedicated staff, our sporting programs would not be able to enter such competitions outside of school time and we greatly appreciate their efforts and the girl’s dedication to take up such opportunities.

Track & Field
Coordinator: Mr Shaun Nodwell
Congratulations to all girls involved in our 2019 QGSSSA Track & Field team, who competed on the first day of the holidays last week. The St Peters team performed extremely well placing third overall, and only two points off second place, a fantastic result and a significant improvement from seventh in 2017.
All girls in our 2019 Athletics team, the volunteers who offered to help us run the QG Carnival and the supporters who came out on the first day of their holidays and for staff the biggest day of reporting, need to be congratulated for the way they conducted themselves and enjoyed the day. All students in attendance are to be commended for the outstanding way they represented the College, there have been multiple emails from other QGSSSA schools congratulating our students. Well done to all students on a wonderful representation of St Peters.
Finally, a big thank you to Mr Shaun Nodwell and Mr Jeremy Lohe for all their hard work this season and Mr Mark Holman and all of the coaching staff. Track & Field is a large sport involving over 100 girls and we couldn’t achieve such success in Girls Sport without a big support network.
Well done girls and we hope you can keep your motivation up for a great 2020 season. To girls competing at State Championships over the next two weeks we wish you the best of luck.

Vicki Wilson – Final Series Weekend
Well done to all our girls that represented St Peters at the Vicki Wilson Final Series weekend.
Our Senior team played amazingly well to finish eighth, the competition was very strong and we had awesome games against both MBC (who won the competition) and Somerset College (who won the competition last year).
Our Junior team – What an experience for our girls, they did very well against much bigger & older opposition. We saw lots of improvement over the weekend and they fought hard to the end in all their games.
WELL DONE GIRLS – WE WERE VERY PROUD OF YOUR EFFORTS ACROSS THE WEEKEND
In the coming weeks of sport, we look forward to participating in Junior Softball and Water polo.
