Installation of Student Leaders
Today the College Prefects for the coming 12 months were installed into their office at a special ceremony in front of their family and peers. 33 young people were commissioned to serve as prefects.
In my remarks to our young people being installed into this leadership role, I reminded them that the next twelve months promises to be an exciting time. It will be an opportunity for them to do much good, to make a difference and leave a lasting legacy on their College. They were encouraged to remember that often it is in the small things that they will effect change. Every smile, every act of kindness, every time they help the person standing in front of them, every gentle word of encouragement, every time they listen and give voice to another - these everyday actions all have meaning and power. Every time they use their gifts and talents to meet a need in our community, they are exercising powerful Servant Leadership. Through seemingly small acts of service they challenge the status quo for both themselves and the person in front of them, creating action and change through ripple effects that they may not even realise.
I challenged the incoming team of Prefects as they assumed their formal leadership roles to be conscious, in fact be deliberate about the small acts of service they can take to make a difference in the lives of students and staff here at St Peters.
We wish all our Student Leaders well as build on the legacy of those that have gone before them using their gifts and talents to make a difference at St Peters.
