2021 is the 75th anniversary of the St Peters Old Scholar's Association! We are excited to have already welcomed Old Scholars back to the College and the year ahead looks promising. The annual Scholars Assembly, Founders Day, Year 2 Tours, The David Brown Cup, and Old Girls vs Opens Basketball match have all taken place and it has been wonderful to interact with our Old Scholars in person again this year.
Staffing News
Farewell and thank you, Sasha
Sasha McCarthy, our SPOSA Alumni & Archives Officer for the last 2 years resigned from SPOSA earlier this Term. Sasha achieved great things for the SPOSA Office during her time with us, and we will all miss her energy and enthusiasm. We wish Sasha all the very best going forward.
Thank you, James
Since Sasha left the SPOSA Office, SPOSA Committee Member James Armstrong (2016) has kindly been working in the SPOSA Office to ensure a smooth transition, while a replacement was found. We are very grateful to James for being able to step in so quickly and support the SPOSA Office.
Welcome Virginia Cordingley!
The SPOSA Office is pleased to welcome Virginia Cordingley to the Alumni & Archives Officer role. Virginia will commence with SPOSA in Term 2 and we are looking forward to Virginia joining the team.
The Lois Dron Literary Grant
The SPOSA Office is excited to announce the establishment of the ‘Lois Dron Literary Grant,’ an annual monetary gift of $250 to the Woodrow Library to fund the purchase of resources that will improve the learning experiences of Upper Primary (previously Middle School) students. This is to recognise Lois’ significant contribution to the education of Middle School students as a teacher and ensure her name remains associated with excellent education of young students long after her passing.
Neville Stallman Bursaries
The SPOSA Office is pleased to advise the annual $250 bursaries given to Grade 12 students from the Indooroopilly and Springfield campuses will now be named 'The Neville Stallman SPOSA Bursary’, perpetually honouring St Peters' Founding Scholar, and recognising his immense service to the College.
Vale Doris Prenzler
The St Peters Lutheran College Old Scholars Association is mourning the passing of significant past teacher, Doris Prenzler.
After boarding at St Peters in 1946 and 1948, Doris returned to St Peters as a Grade 3 and 4 teacher in 1951. While teaching, she also assisted with coaching the girls’ basketball and softball teams and often accompanied the girls to concerts. With only a few leaves of absence to teach in Papua New Guinea and Germany, Doris continued to teach a variety of subjects and year levels at St Peters until leaving in 1973. After St Peters, she fulfilled her dream of returning to live in Germany and married Hans Georg Weigel in 1985. Students who were taught by Doris will remember her great heart, love of learning and sense of fun. She will be sadly missed by many and SPOSA would like to extend sincere condolences to Doris’ friends, family and, in particular, her husband Hans.
Before passing, Doris had asked that her life be remembered as one of praise and thanksgiving to her Heavenly Father. She felt very fortunate to have lived such a full and rewarding life and we, as a community, also give thanks to God for her contributions to the College.

The 2021 David Brown Cup
The 2021 David Brown Cup took place on Saturday 20 March on the Harts Road Oval, and was once again a huge success. After a very even first half, Old Scholars took a lead 1-0 into the break thanks to a goal from Paddy Cunningham (2019). Soon after Charlie Cunningham (2017) and Nathan Teale (2018) added to the Old Scholars lead and 3-0 looked like they would run away with the match. Fatigue started to set in for the ‘older’ bodies and with 8 minutes left, Conall C (Year 10) became the third in his family to score on the day. At one point all four brothers were on the field at the same time, a first for the family! A goal from Josiah R (Year 12) with 3 minutes left ensured a grandstand finish. In the end, the Old Scholars, captained by Tom Lynch (2017) held on for a narrow 3-2 win and have now won 2 of the 3 David Brown Cup matches. Congratulations to all involved this year. We look forward to another great afternoon in 2022!
Attached is a photo of all the siblings that played in the match. From left to right;
Josiah R (Year 12), Sam R (Year 11), Jackson T (Year 12), Nathan Teale (2018), Marcus Jacobson (2020), Alex Jacobson (2017), Conall C (Year 10), Hamish C (Year 12), Charlie Cunningham (2017) and Paddy Cunningham (2019).
Girls Opens vs Old Scholars Basketball
On Friday 12 March, St Peters Open Basketball girls faced off against a team of St Peters Old Scholars in the ultimate pre-season test. From singlet presentations and starting line-up introductions, to layups, three pointers and half-time shooting contests, the Opens vs Old Scholars Basketball game had it all! The Opens started the game off well, leading by five points, just minutes into the game, but, with some sharp shooting from the Old Scholars, they were able to secure the lead going into the second quarter. The Opens displayed some fantastic full court pressure in the second half, but the Old Scholars’ experience and shooting touch did not quaver. While the Opens didn’t back down and showed a tremendous effort on both ends of the court, the Old Scholars took out the game, 59 points to 50.
Thank you to our awesome Old Scholars Grace Champion (2018), Georgia Champion (2015), Holly Johansen (2018), Talitha Cox (2018), Hannah Beede (2012), Anneliese Dean (2020), and Zoe Perkovic (2020) who participated. Congratulations on a great game!

2021 Founders Day
Founders Day 2021 looked a lot different to previous years, however, it was still a lovely celebration and well supported. The Assembly was held in the Dron Auditorium and only the Year 7 cohort attended in person. The Assembly was live streamed for other Year Levels to watch. We were very fortunate to have Old Scholars Anne Fulton (1988) sing, and Oriel Morrison (1991) and Josh McIntosh (1989) speak to the students during the Assembly, as well as Old Scholar and current Head of Primary Years, Pam Carden (1976) read the SPOSA Prayer. All of these Old Scholars did a wonderful job and were so inspirational to the current student body. We were so proud of our Old Scholars who helped us on the day, and very grateful for their time.
Over 40 Old Scholars attended the Founders Day Assembly and Morning Tea, as well as former Headmaster, Dr Carson Dron. Dr Dron kindly spoke at the Morning Tea and all present enjoyed listening to the memories of his time at the College. Towards the end of the Morning Tea, all Old Scholars joined together (beautifully led by Old Scholar Anne Fulton), to sing the hymn from the Founders Day Assembly, 'Now Thank We All Our God'. It was a very moving experience for all involved and was another indication of the special bond that is shared between St Peters Old Scholars.
Thank you to the College for allowing us to invite Old Scholars back for this event. It really was wonderful to see our Old Scholars back on campus and face to face at this event!
