Susan McLean is Australia’s foremost authority on cyber safety for young people. As the first Victorian police officer appointed to a youth-focused cyber safety role, she has dedicated her career to protecting and educating young people online.

With advanced training and tertiary studies completed in the USA and UK, Susan’s expertise is unmatched. She is a highly sought-after presenter, recognised internationally for her extensive knowledge and practical insights.

Beyond her professional work, Susan is a published author, an ambassador for Collective Shout, and a board member of Safeteens Online, continuing her mission to create a safer digital world.

The Topic

Growing Up Online will be an educational and empowering session for parents. The session will cover the positive benefits of technology as well as what parents need to be aware of:

  • Reality & Risk. The reality of the online world.
  • What are kids doing online? Learn the latest apps and platforms children are using.
  • Online Grooming. What is it, and when/how does it occur? Preventative measures.
  • Cyberbullying. What it is, where it happens, what it looks like, how to prevent it, and what to do if it occurs.
  • Sharing Nudes. The taking and sending of explicit images. The social and emotional consequences, as well as the law.
  • Sextortion. The how and what of this insidious crime targeting teenage boys.
  • Problematic Gaming. How to manage digital devices in your home.
  • Exposure to damaging content. Including online pornography and sites that encourage suicide, self-harm, and eating disorders.
  • Top Tips. How to help the children in your care to stay safe.
